Spacious, with a ratty old couch and a few throw rugs. Not the most elegant of places, but the Bronx call it home.

Reid looked around the room, Perry's hand in his. He wondered how his sister was, but figured she was fine. They were meeting in a couple of hours to get some things together and figure out if they'd all be selling or not. Reid gave Perry a smile and told him to find them a pair of bunks so they could put their stuff down. As Perry took off wondering through, Reid ran a hand through his hair, he had no idea what they were doing. He was somewhat resentful towards his sister for putting them in the position where they had to leave, but he couldn't blame her too much.

Even after living in the Bronx for nearly a year, Flea Petherbridge was still confused as to the rules of the separate Lodging Houses. She was only eight, and no matter how many times Cricket explained things to her, she just couldn't seem to grasp on. Peeking into the Eastchester Boys' house timidly, Flea hesitated before stepping fully into the spacious living area.
Her eyes were slightly wide as she looked around with a glowing sense of curiosity, gaze falling on a boy she'd never seen before. Folding her hands delicately behind the back of her dark red dress, she scoffed her worn black boots across a thread-bare rug and grinned up at him. "Hi. I'm Flea."

Reid grinned when the little girl peaked into the lodging house, when she stepped fully into the house he saw that she couldn't be any older than Perry if she was indeed even his age. "Well, hello, Flea. My name's Reid, you live around here too?"

Flea's countenance remained bright and friendly when Reid replied to her, her hands clasped behind her back still as she swayed a bit whimsically on the spot. There was a certain innocence about her that shone right through her hazel eyes. "Uh huh," she nodded, "me an' my sister live in the giiiiiirls' house."
She emphasized the word 'girls' just to make double-sure he had noticed that she was one. Ever since the orphanage had chopped off her long, golden hair and left it only to her chin, she'd been ever so worried that she wasn't pretty like her big sister.
"Wanna play with me?" She asked excitedly, "The boy in the shop gave me his old marbles." It sounded like this new was the highlight of her week.

Reid smiled when she said that they lived in the girls house. "I figured, seein' as your a girl." He leaned down on his knee to be level with her, "My sister lives over there too." When she asked him if he wanted to play marbles he laughed, "You're gonna have to go easy on me, I'm not so good at marbles."

She positively beamed when he acknowledged that she was a girl, and had half a mind to inquire as to whether HE thought that she was pretty like her sister. Being that he didn't know Cricket, though, she let that one go.
"I'll go easy." She promised eagerly, nodding enthusiastically. What Reid didn't know was that Flea had no idea how to play marbles. All she wanted to do was roll them about and ask him to tell her stories. "Do you wanna play here? I can go get them!" Her smile only grew and grew with the anticipation.

Cricket smoothed her maroon skirt as she came up to the Eastchester Boys' Lodging House. She always felt a little nervous when entering the boys' residence, because she was shy and a bit unsure of herself. Were it not her last hope, she wouldn't have been entering it at all when uninvited.
Tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear timidly, she peeked into the house just as her sister had before her to find said sister talking to a young man that Cricket had never seen before. She smiled sweetly, finding the scene quite endearing.
"Flea," she interrupted in a soft tone, "please stop wandering off on me." She pleaded calmly, then smiled greeting to the boy and held out her hand to him. "I'm Cricket."

When Flea had asked him if he'd play there, he nodded, "I'd love to Flea." Just as he finished talking Cricket walked in and scolded her sister for wandering off. Reid laughed, thinking the scene reminded him a lot of his older sister with his younger brother. "You should listen to her, you know, people worry bout you when you don't tell them where your going."
Reid smiled at Cricket when she introduced herself and held his hand out to her, "Reid, pleasure to meet you." He judged by the resemblance between them that they were siblings. "Guess this one belongs to you, huh?" He laughed, "I've got a little brother scampering around here somewhere."

"Really?" Flea finally unclasped her hands and clapped in excitement. It was so hard to find someone to humor her around her, you know, because the kids her age were sometimes mean and the older kids never had time or patience for her. Of course, Cricket was always patient, but Flea hated asking her for things when she saw how hard she worked and how tired she got.
Just as she was turning to run for her marbles, Cricket entered and Flea's face fell. "I'm sorry." She murmured, but then looked up with the intent to justify herself to them both after Reid's agreement. "But I get bored sitting outside the restaurant, Crickeeeet." She whined.

Cricket's countenance was soft and patient, her eyes holding only exhaustion and concern. Her little sister had a skill for getting herself lost in the city when she began to follow her whims, and along with selling papers and waitressing, Flea was turning out to be a full-time job.
"Yeah, she's mine." Cricket smiled almost apologetically, unsure if Flea had been bothering Reid or not. "Flea scampers about the entire city. I had a boy from Brooklyn bring her home this morning after he'd picked her up at the trainyards last night." She still looked sick with worry about it.
Cricket frowned at Flea's whining, but it was more out of guilt than annoyance. "I know, Flea, and I'm sorry but you know I need those extra shifts. I don't mind you going to the lodging house when I'm not there, but you still need to let me know where you are."

Reid bit back a laugh and just nodded, as if he completely understood where Flea was coming from. He honestly did, seeing his sister worry over Perry and seeing the way she had to have an eye on him 24/7 he completely understood how it could make a kid antsy. Then again he never wanted to know what it would feel like to have Perry snatched away from him and stuffed into an overcrowded orphanage so he knew where his sister was coming from as well.
Reid nodded to what Cricket was saying, "She's a cute kid." He smiled, hoping he showed her that her sister hadn't been bothering him.

"Thank you." Cricket smiled appreciatively, smoothing Flea's hair absently as she stood behind her. She was relieved that her little sister hadn't bothered the new newsie.
"C'mon, bug, let's go." She coaxed Flea, but the girl seemed less than willing to obey.

"Kay." Flea murmured, looking at the ground as Cricket spoke to Reid. She had the strongest urge to hide behind the older boy, knowing Cricket would never shout at her no matter what she did. Still, she knew that would have been wrong of her.
"Aw, maaan." Flea stomped her foot light, "But...but Reid said he'd play marbles with me. Please can I?" She asked, then turned round, hopeful eyes on Reid as though to ask his support in the matter.

Reid smiled at the look on Flea's face, "She's right I did say I'd play marbles with her. She'll be fine, me and my brother were planning on staying here for awhile. My sisters even coming down in a little bit after she gets settled in." He knew it was always good to talk about having a sister when it came to little kids. People tended to think that girls would take better care of the little ones than guys would. He smiled at both Cricket and Flea, showing he was a harmless guy.
