Trouble finding that certain book? Maybe it's in the back shelves...

((New Day))
Milly sniffed. Her big blue eyes were beginning to fog up with silent tears at the prospect of not finding what she was searching for. She had found a squirrel in Central Park with a deformed leg, and she had taken it home with her. She hadn't yet told Lacey about the rodent that was now sharing their home, or that the rodent's cage was, in fact, Lacy's Laundry basket. She figured Lacy would find out sooner or later - Hopefully later...
Her dark curls fell about her 13 year old shoulders as she searched the shelves with a teary expression. Cats...Dogs...Horses...But nothing on Squirrels. She slumped up against the shelves and slid to the ground - "Defeated" all over her posture.

Jem was walking around and saw a young girl looking very unhappy in the back of the library. He looked around, and no one seemed to be there. The young boy blinked and looked down at her curiously. "Hey..." he said as he walked towards her slowly. "Are... you okay? Do you want some help?" She didn't look much older than him, and close to his height too. "Did you loose something, or someone?" Maybe she was the lost one. Either way, Jem wanted to help.

Milly looked up, quickly brushing away the now falling tears. She stood up and straightened out her skirt. "I'm fine, thanks." she said miserably. "I'm not lost, and I didn't lose anyone." she replied in answer to his question. "I can't find a book on Squirrels - and If i don't find it - my squirrel might die - and if my squirrel dies, Lacy mat find him - and if she finds him...Oh please help me find that book!" Milly said all in one gasp.
The way she spoke made it sound like the world would end if she didn't find that one book. "I'm Milly." she said after while.

"I'm Jem, nice to meet you Milly," he said with a small smile. "Squirrels?" He thought for a moment. "I bet it's up high," he said pointing higher than the two of them could reach. "I mean, no one never needs to read about squirrels. So why put 'em down low, right?" he asked. "But we can't get that high," he said with a shrug.

..Cant get that high..
Milly scrunched up her nose in thought. Oh yes we can... She scrutinized Jem, her 13 year old minds wheels were turning. He wasn't very big, but he was big enough where the undersized 13 year old girl would be able to stand on him without crushing him.
"Jem, If I could stand on you...We might could make this work!" Milly said excitedly. She hoped she wouldn't scare off her new friend by this strange proposition, but her impulsive behavior had gotten the better of her.

He thought about it and looked up. "...okay! I think that could work!" he said with a bright smile. "Let's give it a try... how does this sound?" he asked. "I'll lace my fingers and lift you up so that you can see, how does that sound?" he asked. Without waiting for an answer he laced his fingers and brought them low enough so that she could step up.

One of life's most incredible things; When two children meet each other for the first time and automatically become the best of friends.
Milly smiled brightly at this proposition, and stepped quickly onto his laced hands. She grabbed onto the shelf for support and balance and so as not to put all of her weight on Jem, and began her search.
Though she was still trying to learn how to read (Lacy was teaching her) she could make out simple words. She saw a picture of a squirrel on one of the spines of the books and shifted her weight towards it. That wasn't the smartest thing she could have done.
The shelf she was holding onto began to fall forwards. She let go and toppled backwards, landing on poor Jem, as a rain of books came down on them. The shelf at least, stayed upright.

"Whoa!" Jem yelled as he fell backwards and was covered in books. He had closed his eyes out of fright, so he opened them and dug his way out. "Milly? Milly are you okay?" he asked looking around the pile of books for his friend. He didn't want her to be badly hurt, or hurt at all if it could be helped.

Milly giggled as she dug her way out of the books. Other than being covered in books she was perfectly alright.
"I got it Jem, I got it!" she yelled excitedly, paying no mind that she had just caused a book avalanche in a Library. She held out the book with the squirrel on it.

"That's great!" he said with a bright smile. "Now your squirrel will be okay! Maybe you should get home, to make sure that he'll be okay. And... you know, b'fore the librarian comes around and finds the mess we've made." He chuckled a little and stood up. He offered her a hand to help her stand up too.

Milly grabbed her new best friends hand and pulled herself up. She laughed at his remark and dashed towards the exit - pulling Jem with her.

"Hey, where we goin'?" he asked as he ran after her. Not that he had much of a choice. He smiled just the same though, enjoying running after her. She was fun!

Prince was in Brooklyn. No, she did not make a habbit of this. She had a healthy respect for Brooklyn, the people in it, around it, and all the way through it. She had friends here though. Some of her former Queens newsies had ended up in Brooklyn after a spell. Two of the toughest girls Queens had ever seen. She was sure they fit in better in Brooklyn. Queens wasn't known for being all that tough of a borough, and those girls had almost been too tough. She wondered where they were.
Anyway, the only reasons Prince came to Brooklyn was on business, to see old friends, by invitation, or to visit the library. Well, those were the most common reasons. Today she'd found herself in the Library. She was standing in the back glancing through the shelves when she saw someone appear out of the corner of her eye. She glanced at him and nodded as a simple basic hello before looking back to her book.

Prince saw him open up the book to the middle and she shook her head. "You don't wanna do that ya know," she said. Prince talked in a deeper tone with her New York accent. It increased the illusion that she was a boy. And since she didn't recognize this kid, she thought she had ought to protect her identity. She played off being a boy rather well, she'd done it for years. "You could end up ruining the story for yaself." She closed the book in her hand and walked over to him.
"If ya wanna know what it's about or if it's any good. Read the inside cover. There's always a little part of the book there, that way ya don't ruin' it for yaself," she encouraged him.
