Lily wiped some stray pizza sauce off of her chin with her napkin and replied.
"Well, I grew up with me mam and pop. Lived in a little tenement, and we didn't have much... but it was nice, ya know? Dey tawt me how ta read. Den dey got sick and died when I'se was jist six. Lived on da streets till now, when I took up... newsiein', for lack of a bettah woid."

Phoenix nodded in understanding, taking a bite of her pizza. A lotta kids turned to being a newsie for whatever reason. It was either that or be thrown in the refuge for theiving. She swallowed. "Well, I'se hope yah like bein' a newsie. I couldn't think o' doin' anything else in the world. I'm so used to it. Gettin' up at the crack of dawn, fightin' over a street corner, sellin' papes to people... it's a fine life."
((wow, totally didn't mean to put lyrics in there. haha.))

Lily nodded with a grin on her face. "Should we spit in our hands an' shake on it?" Lily laughed and her hand hovered over the plate of pizza.
"Should I have any moah? I t'ink that I'll probly be sick if I do... but it's jist so good..."

Phoenix grimaced at the mention of a spit-shake but shook Lily's hand just the same. She laughed as the other girl looked at the rest of the pizza longingly. "You c'n always take it with you, yah know."

Lily laughed. "Good, cuz I really like dis stuff." Lily grabbed a napkin, wrapped a few slices of pizza in it and placed the whole bundle in her bag.
"Now, if any pizza grease ends up on my books, I'll scream."

(( It's five cents for a pie, right? Thanks to Phoenix for being nice and paying for most of it.))
Lily smiled. "Dese books, dey're mah life." She grinned and reached into her bag, feeling for the bottom where she kept her coinpurse. She plinked the last two pennies down on the table and grinned. "Dere. It's paid foah."

Lily gasped in mock anger. "Whaddaya mean, ya don't like readin'? It's great! Books can take ya places ya'd nevah get ta go to..." Lily trailed off.
She continued with a far off, dreamy look in her eyes. "Like fairy tales... magic, handsome princes, true love... ya don't find dat kinda stuff in real life too much anymoah, ya know?"
This is the part where Lily started babbling a little bit. "I mean, I ain't sayin' dat ya gotta love 'em jist cuz I do, but I jist... I do... I can't really explain why..."
