It can get a bit creepy here...

-New Day-
Dutch stood in the dark alley to the tenement apartments, leaning against the building. He struck a match against the building and lit his cigarette. It was peaceful enough, he thought, as he watched those who walked by on the street. No big commotion, which Brooklyn was known for having, was going on. He sighed as he blew the smoke from his mouth. It was still early.

Shakespeare hurried through the alleys, dodging around discarded crates and broken boxes. She hated coming to Brooklyn. People were so much... nicer in Manhattan. She was well on her way when a door swung open unexpectedly and smacked her in the forehead. She landed in the dirt with a curse. "Bloody hell..." she growled, running a hand through her hair.

Dutch looked from the corner of his eye at the girl who had just fallen to the ground. He looked over at the person who did it, who didn't seem to care or even notice anyone was there. He closed his eyes, sticking his cigarette back between his lips.

Shakespeare groaned and pushed herself to her feet. Only then did she notice the other leaning against the wall. Great. Some one else to witness her extreme clutziness. "Wotcher." She said. "Lovely day for a fall."

Dutch turned his head to her. He took one more puff from his cigarette before tossing it to the floor in her direction. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and continued looking straight. He was hoping she'd get the hint...though, most people never did.

Shakes shook her head with a chuckle. "Not much of a talker, aye? Well, some one has to be the silent one, yeah? It's definately not me, let me tell you." She brushed her skirt off and bent down to pick her hat off the ground. "It's been nice talking, or rather, not talking with you. I best be on me way." Shakes smiled at the boy, hoping to get some sort of reaction.

Dutch nodded, as if deeming it okay for her to go, though that was not his intention. His eyes didn't move from where they were looking, which was basically at nothing. At least he was acknowledging her existence, something that was sayng a lot for him.

Shakes' smile grew to a grin when the boy nodded at her. "So, you can see me. For a second there, I'd thought I was invisable. Thank you for easing my worries." she plopped her hat on her head. "Jolly good to meet you, mate. Keep your chin up." she winked at the boy and curtsied with a flourish, like the way one might see on a stage in England.

Dutch looked back at her curiously. She had said she was leaving, yet she was still there. He sighed, lighting another cigarette.

Ha. She knew he wouldn't be able to ignore her for long. She didn't know why she was still here, talking to some one who hadn't said one word to her. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that she was terrified of wandering around Brooklyn on her own at night. Not that she'd admit that to anybody. Or perhaps it all came down to the fact that she hadn't spoken to anybody in weeks. "So, have you been in New York long? I just got here meself." she leaned against the wall, looking at him from under the brim of her hat. "I still don't know what to make of the place. So many people."

Dutch's patience had run out. He had grown tired of the girl long ago, but now she was just making him mad. Why couldn't people understand that he just wanted to be left alone?
"What do you want?" He asked. "Why are you here?"

Shakes shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't know, really." She sighed. "But, since being kind to a person is a crime in America, I best get on my way, before a copper comes and throws me in the yard." She nodded curtly. "Good day to you, sir."
And she walked away, her hat pulled low over her eyes.
