((new day)) Mollie followed Skittery at a slight distance, not because she was trying to avoid association with him but because she was distracted and he was walking quickly. At one point slipped off only to meet him down several blocks. In her pocket was some change she'd just collected from her buyer, who had given her a pretty eight dollars for a pocketwatch she'd pawned along the way. Things had been going exceptionally well for her lately. Her buyer was right in this neighborhood, and she'd stolen it on the way over. She caught up with Skittery, finally, shaking her head. "You walk pretty fast fer a sick man.." she teased quietly as she caught up to him.

Skittery narrowed his eyes at her joke not slowing his pace one bit. "Exactly, I'm sick, not crippled.." he snipped. The quicker he got to the alley the quicker he could sell and go home to sleep - he was more tired than normal. On the walk over he had sold a few papers but was considerably below his average. He veered away from Mollie for a moment, trying to sell a paper to a woman. After a bid of badgering he won, collected his penny, and rejoined Mollie on the sidewalk. "Why you keep fallin' behind if you insited on commin'?" He asked stopping to catch his breath for a moment. Why am I outta breath.. he thought, I ain't runnin'..

She frowned slightly at his lack of breath. "Because I was doing a bit of business, thats all. "she said. "I wasn't lagging, but you were a bit hard to catch up with... I had to walk through some pretty shady alleys to get here near when you did." she said, sighing. "But that dont matter... at least youse sold some." she was a bit concerned about his inability to be not out of breath, he hadn't really been going that fast. She didn't want to anger him by talking more about his illness... he was clearly not happy about it. But why would he be? He had a right to be unhappy.

He looked down at the stack he was holding and frowned, "yeah a few.." Of course today he lacked his normal, competitive, aggressive selling attitude for obvious reasons. Skittery coughed again, this time managing to cover his mouth, before asking in Mollie, "What type of business you in anyways...?" He had his suspicions but didn't want to make any false accusations.

Mollie bit her lip. "Well, it aint the most honest job in de world...but I can say dat I'se about as honest as they come. Im a thief." she said, shrugging slightly. She knew this gave him good reason to turn her away right then and there, but she was hoping he wasn't going to. "I know it aint de best job... but Anabelle and I, we's both do what we gotta to survive." she said, turning slightly pinker.

Skittery snorted at her and stuck a hand into each of his pockets just in case. He did not want to be her next victim. "So what, am I yer mark, or your scapegoat?" He asked gruffly thinking he had all right to be suspicious, why else would a random girl leech on to a sick guy like him? He knew he was being a bit high and mighty...it wasn't like he had never stolen anything - but there was no reason to tell her that.

"Neither. I wouldn't a told youse Ise was a thief if Ise was gonna steal somethin from you or if I was gonna use you to get out of it, would I? That's a sure fire way to get caught." she said, shrugging. "Besides... I wouldn't be able to steal from no one after I'd said a few words to em. And I wouldn't steal from a newsie, eiddah... I don' often steal money. Pocketwatches are my specialty, but purses come next... rings too." she said, sighing. "I aint proud a what I do, but everyones gotta live."

"Jus' like everyone dies right?" Skittery pursed his lips, convinced that she wasn't after him but nonetheless he was still leery. Her explanation was fair enough, same reason he and all his friends stole; they just didn’t do it as often thanks to their job. "Well then why were you hangin' 'round the distribution office, huh? All that is a bunch of newsies with a few cents to their names...” He suddenly grabbed at his chest, a few sharp pains materializing deep inside. He looked around for a seat but finding nothing sank to the sidewalk.

Mollie frowned, feeling concerned for him. She decided to get to her answer before asking if he was all right. "Well, you know the higher working boys... Delaney, DeClancy... Delancy... somethin like that..theys got themselves pretty nice watches. " She paused, "Sides, theys only need one between the two...damn bastards..well, and that I needed a paper fer Anabelle and me." she muttered. She was a bit bitter towards the brothers since a little run on she'd had between them. "Are you sure your all right?" she asked, crouching down next to him.

Skittery waved a hand as he coughed attempting to signal that he was alright. After a few more sputters he relaxed his head against the brick and breathed heavily. "Well this ain't gettin any bettah..." He trailed off defeated and stared down at his papers before looking up at her with a smidgen of a smile, "Guess ya ain't all bad hovering around a sick guy like me...an' the Delanceys?" He raised an eyebrow," They sure are good at makin' friends... jerks..I'll thank ya personally if ya steal anythin' from them" he laughed a little trying to lighten the mood.

Mollie smiled slightly at his first comment, then it broadened at the latter. "Yeah...I'se been tryin fer a while... but its harder to rob em cause dere always together. And no matter what I do its like theys always happen to see me, even if Ise aint seen dem yet. I guess Ise jest gotta get better at hidin.... or find someone who aint a whore to be a distraction." she said, sighing as she thought of Anabelle.
"Do youse want some help sellin papes? If youse tell me what de headlines are I could sell some for ya, free a' cost. C'ept Ise get ta keep da tips if I get any..." she added, winking.

"Ahh so thats yer angle.." Skittery said with a little snort, the small smile not fading from the corner of his mouth. He felt terrible, that was for sure, and he wasn't getting much sold anyways so he gave her a shrug. "Can't put me undah anymore than I am.."he split his papers and slid a few over to her, "Wait, what the hells yer name anyway?" he asked rudely, realizing they didn't really start out on the friendliest foot.

Mollie couldn't help but laugh a little at the last part. "Mollie Finnegan, at'cher service." she said. "I cant help but notice dat I'se dunno your name either. Care to share?" she asked, cocking an eyebrow as she stood up, papers in hand. She stared down at them briefly, though it was useless... she had no idea of any of the words other then the basic if, it, the, at and a few other words, mostly places. She looked back over/down at him curiously.

"Skittery" he said with a huff and watched her stare at the paper. He frowned a bit when she looked back down at him remembering she hadn't really mastered the written word. "It don't matter what it says..." He said with a small cough before standing and propping himself on the wall. "Jus' make somethin' up 'bout the outbreak...I mean look around" He stared at the other people milling around, they definitely wernt top pickings, "they don't know any bettah than what ya tell 'em..yer thief, sure you could disappear if ya needed to anyways.." He sighed and coughed again.

Mollie laughed a bit, but it was a short, cynical laugh. "You know better then I do." she said with a shrug, shaking her head. "And yeah, I'm pretty good at makin meself disappear when I gotta. Its da easiest part a' thievin there is, in my opinion." she said, turning to leave and looking at him over her shoulder, winking as she made her way to the skirts of the crowd of people, slipping in unnoticed as she began to sell.
She knew he had no premise to trust her, especially not after her last comment, but smirked to herself as he left. At this point he didn't have much of a choice.
It was easier then she thought, and she sold the first set quite easily. She had to wait for the crowd to shift a little before she could continue, but slowly managed to sell all of the papers, though she wasn't tipped. She exited the crowd and looked about for Skittery, hand in her pocket as she retrieved the money. She was a thief, yes, but she had intended on giving him his dues.
