Skittery sighed when she disappeared into the crowd, slightly relieved to have a moment to cough without attempting to stifle it. He hack for awhile, leaning into the bricks and using a paper to cover his mouth. After recovering he pulled the newsprint away and saw splatters of blood across the top fold. "Great.." he growled and tossed it on the ground...not like one more lost paper mattered; Mollie just walked away with most his papers and who knew if he'd ever see the profit from that.
Skittery pushed away from the wall and haggled a few people for a sell. He wasn't being tricky, just desperate at this point. All he wanted to do was go home. At the opening of the alley he took a rest, glancing around for Mollie..in the hopes that maybe she didn't skip out.

Mollie finally found Skittery, beaming. She came from the other side of the alley, and therefore saw him from behind, "Hey!" She called from some distance, then got closer to him and tugged his sleeve, sliding the coins she'd made into his pocket. "That wasn't so hard as I thought." she said, smiling.
"Did you do all right?" She asked, then looked to the ground and saw his previously forlorn paper. She looked at the red, then back up at him, concern etched in her look.

Skittery dropped his own hand into the pocket and smiled for a second when he found the new lump of change. However, the faint smile faded almost instantly and he just let out a negitive grunt and rocked the stack under his arm.
His eyes followed hers to the abandoned paper and he scowled back at her. "What? It jus' got dirty, useless.." he stopped himself knowing that his denials weren't getting him anywhere with her. "Here" he said shoving the rest of his papers into her arms, "you got the nack of it, make an honest livin' for a change. I'm goin' home.." He didn't mean to be harsh, but he was edgy on a normal day and today he was afraid on top of that. He grunted and started back out on the main sidewalk.

Mollie looked confused. She had only meant to help... she didn't want to upset him, which was why she hadn't said anything. She bit her lip and cast her eyes to the ground when he told her to go make an honest living. Even though she didn't know him very well had had already been successful in hurting her feelings, and it showed. She wasn't one of those tough girls who would shrug it off or hit him or something, she didn't really hide her emotions; she just voiced what she was thinking.
She quickly bounded back to him, still looking somewhat hurt and dejected. "First of all, I dont want your papers. Second of all... did I do something wrong?" she asked, holding his papers back out to him. If he wasn't going to sell them he could at least sell them back to the distribution center and get his money back.

Skittery stopped walking, hunched his shoulders, and avoided looking at Mollie's face. He knew he was being snippy to say the least and o him being sick was a good excuse to be overly moody. The fear in him was building and it started to take over all parts of his thinking, though in his guarded way he tried to cover up the illness and his concern.
"I don't want the stupid papers either" he snapped back, keeping his eyes focused on some people behind Mollie. He'd crack if he looked her in the eyes. "An' yeah ya did do somethin' wrong...ya talked to me in the first place now I'm all mixed up an' feel like crap an' yer gettin' all obligated an'--" his rant was interrupted by a desperate gasp for air and a wheezing cough. He leaned over bracing his arms on his knees. He pain in his chest was deep again and he kept his head down, trying to fight back the sissy tears he could feel welling up. "Mollie...I jus' wanna sleep it off..." he mumbled shakily.

Mollie nodded, watching him. "Ok, Skittery." she said, not really wanting to press the matter much further. She'd been snapped at enough already. "But youse should still get somethin warm to drink sometime soon, and a good meal, too." she said, remembering that they were going to get something to eat afterwards.
"An' sorry if I'se bothered ya, I was jest tryin ta help out...well, maybe help out aint the right words...but...its close enough," she said, turning to leave. She was tired herself and was planning on getting home before Anabelle anyway. She'd make dinner for them or something.

Skittery took the backside of one of his hands to his eyes before standing upright again. Crying was for girls, and sissy boys, no matter how much pain you might be in. He coughed and then called back to her weakly, "Mollie.." His mouth just hung open because he didn't really have anything else to say, he had been an jerk and there wasn't much he thought he could say...rather he slumped his body pathetically and stared back at her.

Mollie turned around with a slight sigh. "Yes, Skittery?" She asked, watching him curiously. She was wondering what he could possibly say to her now, and was expecting something bitter. It was either going to be something bitter or some sort of apology....those were the only two things that came to mind that he might say. She kept her gaze on him, waiting.

He knitted his brow together when she didn't say anything either, just leaving them in an awkward standstill. Finally, Skittery sighed and thrusting his hands into his pockets he walked closer to her and adverted his attention to the people around them again. "the drink?" He mumbled referring to her earlier urgings. "get a drink then sleep..." It was his way of beating around the bush with an apology. He longed for his bed, but something to warm him up first sounded good - She deserved a few pleasant minutes of his company, and he wasn't so sure he'd make it near the LH without passing out in the snow somewhere.

Mollie raised an eyebrow at him. "I dont know, you don't really seem to want me around." she said, shrugging. She wasn't going to submit to his every wish as soon as he decided something, especially because he seemed to be contradicting himself quite frequently. That and that he had been rather rude when she was trying to be nice.
"But....Im worried about you. I think we probably should go sit inside somewhere."

Skittery didn't make any snippy comments back like he normally would. Rather he just nodded and quietly agreed, "that be nice..." Mollie hadn't been anything but nice to him from the beginning, and he had returned her friendliness by taking his problems out on her. He gave her a weak smile then threw his head to indicate a direction. "There's a cafe not to far...an' on the way home.."

She nodded with a smile, surprised at his sudden bout of civil-ness. "Sure," she said, "That sounds good. Now c'mon, lets get you somewhere warm. Stayin out like dis cant be good for nobody." she urged, looking aourd to try to figure out where to go.

Skittery coughed some more, this time covering it with a hand and turning away from Mollie. He wiped the bloody mess on the tail of his coat, choosing to ignore the small episode taking a deep breath to keep all of his emotions in check.
"This way.." he said beckoning her with a paper and started walking slowly down the street. ((to the corner cafe Harlem?))
