"You can take care of yourself when there's a knife pressed to your throat?" Aura said, shaking her head. "I don't mind that Delaney found you... she did because I was talking about you so much, I suppose. I missed seeing you."

"I figured you'd probably smooth-talked your way to another woman by now," Aura said, sure of what his answer would be.

"Smooth-talk?" His head quickly snapped up to look at her. "If by dat ya mean have I found a anotheh women dat won't chase me away...den yes I have," he said angrily. He was mad at her, because she was making him feel guilty when she'd been the one to chase him off and he didn't like the feeling.

"Then go be with her. Make her happy. Just... stay away from the girls involved with the Hell's Kitchen boys. We're trouble. We can get you killed, and I don't want that for you, or any other newsie."

"Fine," he said and stood up, "If ya eveh need me ya can find me in da Bronx." He turned and headed towards the door. He walked out the doors and didn't even turn back and he'd never come searching for her again. Being rejected a third time was more than he could handle.

It killed Aura to do this. She really liked Flick; more than any other boy she'd known, but it was better to let him go to the girl he had now. She was better for him; not a Hell's Kitchen girl. Flick's girl wouldn't get him into trouble, or hurt, or worse.
"Bye," she said softly.
