"Yes!" Lukas squealed with excitement and started to limp faster pulling at Polly. He was so excited to be home after the trek and collapsing in one of the dusty old sofas sounded like the best thing ever.

"Alright, alright...." Polly mumbled as she was pulled onto the porch. When they were safely on it she led Lukas over to a wall, allowing them both to lean on it. Overall it had been a long, yet alright trip. He hadn't done anything too stupid like putting his hands where they definately didn't belong, something Polly had to admit she was worried about at first. They were just leaning there....she knew it was forwardto just speak, but she had to say something.
"So....how bad do you think that is?"

Lukas glanced down at his foot and shrugged, it hurt that was for sure but he couldn't see anything with his pants and boots on. He slid down to the ground and proceeded to unlace his boot. As he pulled it off he winced, feeling the pain more now that the support of the leather was removed. His fingers slid this sock off revealing a swollen, dirty, slightly purple ankle. He looked back up at Polly.
"It sure don't look pretty..." he poked the purple spot and let out a little yelp. The walk probably hadn't helped anything but he really didn't have a choice with that.

Polly shook her head, worried. How was he going to make any money with that ankle? Polly was fully healthy (physically, anyway) and she could barely make a living. Oh well, she decided. Now it's his issue. Polly's job was finished.
"Well....good luck with it...." she began to lean off of the wall, but stopped momentarily. She was overcome with guilt. She couldn't just leave him there, either, but it wouldn't be proper to stay. Besides....something inside of her wanted to stay, and hoped that he would give her a reason.

Lukas looked up at her and snorted. He hadn't noticed her hesitation, only heard what sounded like a parting comment. He assumed she was just going to take off and leave him there to lick his wounds.
"Ya know this is your fault.." He hissed. He'd never admit to his own foolishness rather, he was going to pin it on her.

Polly turned on her heel. She was (as much as she hated to admit it) quite content to stay. It wasn't as if the walk back home was too appealing, plus she didn't have enough money to eat once she got there. Still, she decided, it wouldn't hurt to act a little angry.
"My fault? And how's that?"

Lukas' jaw parted a little. He stared at her trying to figure out a good reason why exactly it was her fault. Crossing his arm over his chest he huffed momentarily.
"How? " he blinked, "If you 'adn't...'aden't gotten all upset about me takin' your papes! Psh you need to learn how to take a little old joke...instead ya got all haughty and now look at me!" He waved his arms about trying to act more flustered and angry than he actually was.

Polly couldn't help give an embarrasingly boyish giggle. She approached Lukas, putting her serious face back on. The events of the past day were still very fresh in her mind, and it was quite clear to her that it had all been Lukas' fault. Or was it anybody's, really? No....it was more of a twist of fate, as Polly liked to call it.
"Please forgive me," she joked and glanced at his injury. "What would you like me to do?"
Polly was baffled at her own courage.

Lukas scrunched up his face, contemplating her question and ignoring her joking. His demeanor changed a bit, and his expression curled into one of mischief. "I would like you to do fer me?" He toyed with his chin as if in deep thought.
"First" He held up a finger, "ice me ankle...its swellin' too much an' I think I'll go lame otherwise.." Another finger, "i think I'll be needin' a damp towel for me head...it's feelin' a bit flushed. And if ya really wanna 'elp...maybe some food?" He smirked.

Polly rolled her eyes about as noticeably as she could. She wanted to make sure he saw her annoyance.
"Your head can get used to it....you keep ice anywhere particular?" she added to her joke, deciding that icing his injury wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Food.
"If you hadn't noticed, I lost all my food money helping you," she attempted to say it in good humour, but there was something particularely depressing about the statement. In all truth, even if she had sold a bunch of papers, she'd barely have enough money to buy herself anything to eat, much less pay for Lodging.
In fact, she thought, do I have enough to Lodge tonight?

Lukas frowned at her for a moment then at his foot then back at her. It seemed as though the only thing he'd get was ice...if they had any...and now a cloud of guilt was collecting over his shoulders for essentially 'taking' her money. Swell.
He bit his lip for a long while shifting uncomfortably. Slowly he fingered at his pocket feeling the lump of money he had made...damn this girl - the one day he sells good she had to come along and make him feel all sorry for her. With a sigh he mumbled in a low voice, hoping maybe she wouldn't understand and would dismiss it all "guess I owe ya..."

Polly mentally counted the money she did have. If she didn't eat, she could sleep at the House tonight. If she did, she'd be out on the streets. It wasn't that bad a night, but sleeping outside in any weather wasn't exactly a thrill. Suddenly, she heard the mumble. Oh no.... she thought.
"No," she stated. "You don't." Her face was firm yet sincere, and she suddenly felt her gaze leaving the boy as she thought of something. She should thank him. That day was the first she had felt....confident....since she was much younger.

Lukas perked up a bit. She just gave him the opportunity to keep it all. With a shrug, and trying not to smile he said, "Fine. I won't." And he threw his hand back in his lap. Her loss...

slowly and wearily, Ink walked up the porch steps. She saw a boy and a girl sitting there, and shyly walked up to them. "Good afternoon!" she called . Then in rather shaky english, she asked "This is place where newsies live?"

Polly was about to reply. She was even considering thanking Lukas for a moment. Thankfully (in her mind, anyways), a young girl had shown up on the porch, taking away the awkwardness. She glanced at her, taking in her appearance. She spoke, a small smile on her face,
"So I'm told."
