Lukas' attention was also drawn the the girl at the foot of the porch. He cocked his head, curious, recognizing the accent. The girl seemed fresh off the boat...or had not been on her own long. Rather than talking in english he choose german sure to eye Polly while he spoke it. "Einige von ihnen tun. Wie ich. Sie nicht."
(("Some of them do. Like me. Not her." ...and yes i butcher the language thanks to translators ha))

An arm fell around Lukas' shoulders then, completely out of the blue. "I would repeat that, but I'd probably offend someone if I did. 'Sides, I have no idea what you just said."

Polly stared at Lukas. She knew he was German - or s0mething similar - but had no idea he could be fluent in another language. Polly was English decent, second or third generation American. Who knew? She always hated herself for only knowing the one language, though, especially since she wasn't terribly skilled in her own.
She drifted out of her spell when the new boy appeared. Terrific, she thought. There's more.

Lukas nearly jumped out of his skin. Because Ace startled him half to death his legs flew into the air, crashing back limply to the porch. He let out a screech as his swollen leg made contact and stared back at his leader a bit confused. He'd heard he was around..just hadn't actually seen him. He caught Polly's gaze and sent a quick glare in her direction, embarassed from his sudden rush of adreneline.
"Where the hell you come from?!" He snapped at Ace as he poked at his now purple ankle. Lukas also made sure to shrug off Ace's arm.

Overjoyed to have someone she couldt talk too, Ink asked, "Ich bin so froh, jemand anders zu treffen, der meine Sprache spricht! Wissen Sie, wenn es Betten verfügbar hier gibt?" (I'm so glad to have someone who speaks my language. Do you know if there are any bunks available here?)
((no worries i dont really speak german either and freetranslations.com butchers everything))

((To Ink: So true. xD))
"Excuse me... which one of you is the leader?" Chasm asked as he approached. He observed the other's attire and felt a little silly (mostly for his hat... and clothes... and hair).

Ace snorted at Lukas' display, holding his hand out to help him up. "Oh, I've been around. You all right?" He raised an eyebrow at the German - Lukas was going to have to take care of that one. It went right over his head. However, Chasm he could handle. He raised a hand in the air. "That'd be me. What can I help ya with?"

Lukas snorted right back at Ace "I'm good enough..." He said pulling himself back up with Ace's hand and leaned against the wall to avoid putting weight on his hurt leg.
He smiled breifly at Ink, pleased to hear his first language roll off another newsies tounge. "Gewöhnlich gibt es ein paar. Ich kann wichtig anschauen," he threw a thumb towards Ace" aber der Katzenesser über hier ist wirklich incharge." It was nice to be one of the few who spoke the language...he could say what ever he wanted without getting in trouble.
("Usually there are. Though I may look in important, the cat-eater over here is really in charge"
cat-eater by the way is a german slang for an italian..equivilent of wop )

Polly was amazed to hear how perfectly lovely this girl's English was. Most people nowadays spoke nearly entirely in slang, something even Polly had done on many occasions, but was not terribly proud of. Another thing that surprised her was how kind Lukas seemed to be acting. It was such a change from how he had been before. Then she noticed another boy. She saw his hat and attempted not to giggle.
Suddenly, she remembered her task. She looked to Ace, about to ask whether or not there was a place to get ice nearby. Her mouth opened, yet no words came out.
Just as she had gotten used to speaking to Lukas, she was frozen with this boy.

Ink was confused. She looked back and forth between the girl, and the new boy with the funny hat, wondering what was going on. The girl turned to the boy as if to ask him something, but whatever her question was, it remainded unasked. The girl simply stood there opening and closing her mouth like a fish. "is this some kind of American sign language?" Ink wondered, "is something wrong with her?" Ink shrugged, deciding it really didn't matter, and walked over to the girl. "Good day, my name is Ink. Do you live here?"

"Sorry," Polly bounced out of her trance with some surprise. She whipped her head to the girl who had spoken to her. The one with the nice English," she forced herself to remember. Absorbing the question, she exhaled.
"Oh no. I was just helping him-" she pointed to Lukas, "get here."
She smiled.
"Please excuse me....my name is Polly."

Lukas looked around the growing mob. The lodging house seemed to be gaining a lot of new recruits lately..but then again people were always on the way out too. He stared back at Polly for a moment, the afternoon rolled through his memory and by the end of it he let out a snort, deciding that though he had money, having a busted ankle was pretty crappy. "Thanks Parrot.." He called to her once again forgetting her name, "..for the afternoon" It was somewhat sarcastic, but probably one of the nicest things he'd said to her.
He looked at the two new kids then back to Ace with a smirk slapping him on the back. "Have fun with the new kids, O great leadah!" And with that he hobbled into the lodging house, muttering about the neediness of new comers and the incompetence of Manhattan.
((its getting busy over here and I'm going to be out for awhile so I'm just dismissing myself so Lukas doesnt slow things down...))
