"Well, is nevah thought dat ole Princey would be kissin' Spot Conlon.." He gave his best impression of Spot's trademark smirk before offering his arm. "Care to move along?"

"Ready when youse are," she said laughing a little. "You do Spot very well by da way," she said giggling a little. She stepped out the front door and closed it firmly behind her. She didn't think she'd need anything else, so she was set to go. She smiled to him... she was so excited!

Clarence had led the little girl to the lodging house and had found their leaders room. He had planned on taking her to the Orphanage, but the newsies would likely take better care of her, even though they were just children themselves.
He knocked lightly on the door.

Innocence stood next to Clarence looking up at the big building wondering what it was and if she'd be safe. She held Beary tightly to her and with her other hand held tight to Clarence.

Prince opened the door and smiled at the two of them. "Heya Officah," she said with a low pitch to her voice sounding like a boy as she usually did when there was a cop around. She looked down at the little girl and winked. "What can I do ya for, sir?" she asked. She had a slight sarcastic tone, most newsies had them when talking to a bull, sounds like mock respect.

Innocence looked at the person who came out to greet them. She gave the girl she knew it was a girl it had to be a side long look. her head kinda cocked to one side completely confused. Then she looked up at Clarence wondering as usual what was going on.

Clarence decided to ignore the tone of the young boy's voice.
"This little girl here is an orphan. I thought maybe you newsies could take her in. Teach her your 'trade', so when she gets older she has a way to make money." Clarence looked down at the little girl, giving her hand a light squeeze, telling her these people were ok.

PRince looked at the young girl again and thought about it for a second. She nodded to the officer for a second, seemed like he meant no harm. The least Prince could do was be congenial. She got down on one knee and looked her over. "What's your name kid?" she asked with a sweet smile, but keeping her voice pitch low to keep her sounding like a boy.

Innocence couldn't help but giggle. She wondered why the girl was trying to sound different. She shrugged it away holding Beary tight but understanding Clarence's squeeze it too her a second to realize that Prince had asked her a question. "Constance..." she sounded out her name as usual "But everyone calls me Innocence." She smiled but burried her head into her teddy now.

Prince chuckled a little at the cute little girl. She glanced up at Clarence before she stood up at full height. "Well, I'll see what I can do. We'll be good ta her I promise ya dat," she said with a slight nod. "Thanks for bringin' her by."

Innocence looked form Clarence to Prince. He was gonna leave her there she knew that and something in her made her a little mad at him. She walked over to Prince and grabbed her arm as if to say 'don't leave me alone.' She looked up at Prince with a sad expression and she didn't look back at Clarence.

Clarence was happy that he had found a good place for her. Although her suddenly leaving, made him feel a little hurt, he knew kids moods and attitudes changed every minute.
"I'll come by and visit sometime, and you an come by and visit too." he said in a soft voice, then turned his attention back to Prince.
"Please don't let her wander around by herself."
That was all he said as he turned and left the Lodging House.

Prince watched him leave. He was a good guy," she decided that much was certain, but she still didn't trust adults much. So, she turned her attention back to Innocence. "Well kid, my name is Prince," she said offering her hand to the young one. "Ya gonna hang with me for a while."

Innocence nodded her head. She's heard what Clarence had said but it didn't make it any better. She held tightly to beary. "Nice to meet you prince. you won't go away on me will you?" She was a little nervouse and frightened now. She really didn't know what to think. She wanted her parents but they weren't gonna be there and they weren't gonna come.

"Nope. I ain't goin' no where if Ise can help it," she said with a soft smile. "I'm gonna show ya somethin', but ya cain't tell no one okay?" She took off her hat and let her hair fall down around her shoulders. "Ya see, I'm really a goil, like youse, I just pretend to be a boy. Now, all the other kids know, but the adults don't. It's a kinda game I play wit' 'em. So you gotta play along, and ya cain't tell no one dat ain't a newsie, okey doke?"
