Still in a state of suspended shock, his hands came up, and then fell, as if he didn't know what to do with them. "You really..." A small smile started to grow on his face, "I honestly thought..."

"Yeah, well..." Two-Bit said with a grin. "I'm not the best at telling people how I feel. But that's why I got you, right?"
She was honestly glad that Blink had said it before her. She knew how she felt about him, but could never figure out how to tell him without it being weird. Well, this was a little weird too, but it worked out well enough.

The smile on his face grew wider, and, knowing it was probably very forward of him, he gently tipped her face up with one finger, and after a moment's hesitation pressed his lips to hers. It was a light kiss, feather soft, and he pulled back after a moment, a mere inch apart.
"Yeah." He whispered, "That's why you have me."

Two-Bit smiled back, though not quite sure if Blink had really just kissed her. She laughed a bit, but she wasn't sure why. It was just kind of funny, so romantic yet so... not. She'd never heard of a first kiss happening in a dirty newsies' bunk room.
"Did you just..." Two-Bit trailed off, wrapping her other arm around his shoulders.

"No, it's fine, really..." Two-Bit said softly. She put her mouth over his just as lightly as he had before, her eyes automatically closing. She prayed to God that Mush didn't decide to walk back in.

Speak of the devil. Mush, who had gotten tired of the depressed mood downstairs came to tell Two-Bit and Blink what had happened. "Hey guys, I thought you oughta know that-" he stopped in mid sentance. Apparently he had picked an inopportune time to walk into the room. Heh... oops!

Blink jerked, but didn't move away from Two-Bit. Instead he put his arms around her and looked over at his friend with a smirk on his face. "We oughta know what, Mush?"

Mush looked at Blink and Two-bit, and then expression on Blink's face. He figured that it had all gone well, and smiled. But then remembered why he had come, and his smile fell. "There's been some trouble... from Brooklyn, in Manhattan. You know Spike?" Mush asked them.

Prince sided with Jack, and Ace sided with Spot, and well... a sorta fight's broke out..." he said. "I jus found out meself."

"Dead?" His entire mannor changed, moving away from Two-Bit just a little. It didn't make much sense- why would anyone want to hurt, much less kill, a little kid? He was about to say more, but something his friend had said stopped him.
"Prince sided with Jack, and Ace sided with Spot, and well... a sorta fight's broke out..."
He knew Mush better than that. "You mean a war, dont you?" He asked softly. "With us and Queens gainst Brooklyn and da Bronx. That's what you mean."

"You're joking, right?" Two-Bit said, but she already knew the answer. It wasn't often that a newsie got killed, but it wasn't impossible. Still, this wasn't right.
"He was in Manhattan so Spot's blaming Jack?" She asked. "He can't think of any other explanation?"

"Yeah... we's basically in a war..." Mush said with a sigh. "I dunno why Spot's blamin' it on Jack, but he is. Aftah all... who else would kill a newsie, but a newsie? Grudge or somethin'. Wull... Jack thought that Spot thought one of us did it, not jus Jack. Or maybe one of da Queens newsies, since dey're sidin' wit' us, but b'sides dat... I ain't got no idea... I'm gonna go get some aih," he said and left the bunks to go outside. Maybe it would help his falling spirits.

Blink paused and sat down on a bunk, face blank. He couldn't believe this was going on. One of their own? It didn't make any sense. Spike was just a kid!
