<<new day>>
Jacks sat on the dock, looking out into the ocean. Things had been going ill as of late, and he needed time to think. Fiddling with the string from his cowboy hat about his neck, he leaned against a pier.
Hopefully the war would be over soon. But he knew things would never be the same...

Alley Cat wandered the docks on the Manhattan side of the bridge. Of course not caring that she wasn't on "her side" so to speak. She spotted Jack and walked over. "Hiya, whatchya thinkin' about." She asked shyly and sweetly noting he was actually thinking and she probably knew what about too.

Sweets shouted headlines into the crowds, trying desperately to get rid of her last 20 papes. Not being noted for her perseverance, she sighed and headed for dock to take a rest. Spotting her leader, she hoisted her papers onto her shoulder and made her way over. "Jack? What are ya doin' heah? Don' you normally sell with da Mouth?"

Jack looked the new girl up and down. "...'scuse me..but who are you?" He was a bit irrated about how the day had turned out, and if his tone was harsh, he didn't mean to take it out on the girl necissarily.
He did brighten a bit when he saw Sweets, but his brow still remained furrowed. "I actually haven't seen him at all today..I did a bit a' selling earlier, but I quit for tha day. I needed some time ta just think." He shrugged. "But Mouth's tha thinker not me. So I aint getting nowhere."

"Well what is it that's got ya thinkin'?" she asked, taking a seat beside him and letting her legs hang off the dock. "I mean, I shore could guess. . ." she added, giving him a sideways glance. Sighing she leaned back on her hands, taking her hat off and wiping her brow. "But hey, it aint my place." she added as an after thought, realizing she was probably prying into leader affairs.

"Names Alley Cat. Ise sorry i didn't mean to bother you." She put her head down in a short of embarrassment. She looked at the other Manhattan newsie and decided she'd take a step back and look for a time to depart from the two.

Jack smiled weakly at Sweets. "Nah, sure its ya place. Newsies have a right ta know what their leda's are doin'." He shrugged. "..its just Spot bein' so stubborn...I'm afraid he just won't give up." He sighed and rubbed his brow a bit in frustration. "He's all by hisself now...but still he labours on. Is mean...I gotta hand it to him, he is stikin' to his guns...but still."

Alley shook her head. So what she though was true he was thinking about the war. She got a half smile when he mentioned Spot's stubborness basically because it was true. This war could go on forever if Spot had the heart to want too. She'd have to go talk to him, that was if she ever found him. She looked out to the water and sighed.

"Yea, shore, I know what ya mean. He's got a death grip on his reputation huh?" she asked, pulling out a cigarette. "If only he knew what him bein' stubborn is doin' to it." Pulling out a match she paused, still gazing out at the water. "Has anyone even tried ta talk to 'im?" she asked, glancing at Jack. "I mean, I know it aint easy ta get into Brooklyn an' all, but are you guys shore he aint on your side, or are ya jist guessin'?" After she finished speaking she immediately felt awkward, realizing she was now officially prying into others' affairs. She knew Jack meant what he said about it being okay, but she wasn't comfortable being involved. Sighing she took a long drag on the cigarette before passing it to Jack, being that it was considered somewhat rude for a newsie to not do so, passing it around had become something of a habit.

Alley Cat turned away from the water without taking a second glance. She was determinded to find Spot or at least a leader who would talk to her but she had a feelin' that would be hard. She left heading for the bridge that would take her back to brooklyn.

Jack sighed and nodded in thanks towards Sweets, taking a drag off the cigarette. "I am not the one to talk to him..I tried and that ended badly. Ace isn't the one either--him breaking from Spot has caused issues." He sighed.
He looked at Sweets and then back at the water. "You know Spot. Its hard for him to back down..he would feel it was a blow to his pride.."

"Ya thinkin' about this all wrong Kelly. It's not that ya gotta get him ta back down, it seems ta me ya gotta feed his ego a bit, ya know? Make him see how it's in his best interest, heck even how it makes him a hero, ta join the other boroughs." She paused, gazing out at the water. "Ya gotta ask him like you're desperate it, like all you leadahs are desperate for him ta join you, make him feel like da king o' New York. Let's face it," she added, grinning, "Da guy loves ta be needed."
She laughed lightly, looking down at her feet dangling over the edge, and added, "Of course by feedin' his ego ya'd be killin' yours." She gave him a sideways glance, still grinning slightly. "I guess the question heah is, is it worth it?" Her grin faded slightly as she looked at him. Her laughter was only trying to make light of the situation, but she knew Jack knew better, Jack always knew better.

Jack looked at her. He knew his kids were smart, but now and again they surprised him. "Yeah that would work, but.." He laughed. "Yeah. My ego is risin' up to scream no to that suggestion." He shrugged. "...I'll talk to Prince and Ace 'bout it. Maybe David too." They always had good ideas and either vaildated or honed his own ideas.

[New Day]
"Extry, Extry! Read all about it! 'Native Species Disappearin'! Experts Feah Da Woist!'" the shout echoed over the noise of the harbor. Only three people were interested in the 'improved' headline. Ha. When did Manhattan's citizens become so smart?
Firecracker pulled her loud orange cap down farther over her eyes, sighing slightly. The headlines were crap today. Honestly, who cared if 'Pigeons Migrate Early, Experts Concerned?' And THAT was the headline...a two-page story about pigeon migration...it was pathetic. She sighed, glaring at the reaming fourteen papers tucked under her arm. This was going to take a while.

Alley Cat had no business being in Manhattan at all. She had no business to be up and walking not after what happened at the Pub but she didn't rightly care. She would go stir crazy if she didn't get out. She was wandering the harbour. She's sold her papers how she didn't know cause she hadn't even improved the truth. She heard another newsies' call. She half smirked at it. She searched the croward and walked over to Firecracker. "Hiya. Slow day ain't it."
