Watch out! It's a bit shady down here...

Zero walked through the street, holding a paper over her head. She whistled, instead of calling out headlines, occasionally juggling a few of them, writing some "improved" headlines on her chalkboard.
A few people had bought from her so far, but it gave her less than enough to buy herself something to eat.
She looked from side to side, feeling a bit nervous. Bottle Alley was starting to seem like a bad selling spot now...

Skittery flew back wards out of a doorway his back slamming in to the brick wall on the other side of the alley way. Most of his papers scattered around the ground and he only cursed and ducked out of the way as a very large man came rushing through the same thresh hold. Skittery struggled to get his footing, slipping on his papers as well as other debris - Bottle alley really was disgusting half the time, such low life scum. Finally his boot found traction and he began to run, the big man yelling in tow.
A girl was directly in his path, and he cursed at the luck of it all and slowed not to knock her over. A newsie at that - newsies wouldn't be welcome there for awhile, not after he made his infamous round. He grabbed her shoulders and started pushing her back out of the alley the way she came without one word of explanation. He was not going to be responsible for someone else getting hurt.

Everything had happened a bit fast for Zero to register it. But what she did know is that someone was pushing her out of the alley, and a male someone at that.
Scowling, Zero began to walk, not wanting to be pushed along by some stranger. As they exited Bottle Alley, she took out her chalkboard and wiped off the headlines, writing the phrase 'what do you think you're doing?'

Skittery was about to give her a nother little shove to get further from the Alley when the chalkboard was pushed toward his face. He completely stopped and looked at it dumbfounded. He was not expecting that. He looked at her curiously then at the board, trying to decided if it was a joke, if he was suppose to write a response, or just talk. He looked back at the alley relieved to not see anyone apparently looking for him.
"I was savin' yer ass thats what I was doin'." His normal sass was in his voice despite his apparent confusion. "Don't go back dere fore awhile, 'less you wanna be soaked good." He took a few steps, halfway expecting her to follow and wanting her too out of curiosity, the other half wanting to be alone.

Her mouth formed a small 'o' and Zero nodded slowly, taking a step after him. Part of her was kind of confused. What had he done to make it un-safe to go back in Bottle Alley? Not that she'd go any time soon.
As he took yet another step, she began to follow him, stopping again right behind him and raising an eyebrow. She felt like a puppy doing this.

Skittery turned around, the girl at his heals. He wrinkled up his forehead trying to figure her out. After a moment of staring he lost what little patients he had left, "What?!" he huffed at her, "Common ya got somethin' ta do or go...right?"
He had a shadow now, which was more odd for him than anything. This girl was confusing and intriguing at the same time and he was quite interested to figure out what was going on with her. He pulled out one of his cigarettes and proceeded to lite it. They generally calmed his neveres a bit, possibly even softening his mood swings.

A headshake was all he got in response. Where you from? was written neatly on the chalkboard as she held it up and tilted her head sideways. Better to start with basic questions, and move on to harder ones.

He exhaled and shook his head, it was obvious she was not going to be the easiest to get across too. Most people reacted to his snapping, she acted like it wasn't happening. He started to walk again, knowing she'd follow him now.
"Here." He responded, "Manhattan." The silence was odd to him, the conversation delayed by her writing on the chalk board. He tilted his head at her and had a flash of compassion, he wasn't all stone despite how angry he sometimes came across. "Yer a newsie obviously.." he motioned at her papes, "World. Yer Manhattan or Bronx then..."

Manhattan. She wrote as she followed behind him, finally walking beside him and taking in the scenery. It's nice here. Had appeared as if by magic.
I'm Zero. And you are...?

<<new day>>
Sneaks was sitting on a corner, playing cards with a kid he had met, a cigarette pushed between his lips. He smirked and laughed softly, winning thsi game. Things were going good.
Real good.

Ace had been walking all along Manhattan, looking for his brother. Finally spying him, he walked over, face a careful blank he almost never used, cap pulled low over his head. He was also not wearing his mother's chain, something he usually never took off. But it wasn't around his neck.
"Sneaks." He said in greeting. "I wonder if perhaps you might be missing a card." He pulled something from his pocket and flashed it at the gambler. The card he had given Ace so long ago.

Sneaks saw the card and immediately pulled his cards away from the kid. "Games over." he didn't give another explination.
Standing up, he started walking with Ace. That card was to be pulled in serious situations only. "...what's going on Ace."

Ace pulled his hat down. "Follow me into Hell, Fratello?" He asked with a sideways glance. "You said that once, i believe. Ready to prove it?" His eyebrow rose a little, "You're in luck, its right up your alley."

Sneaks raised an eyebrow. "...yeah. I always heard that Hell was wonderful this time of year. He nodded. "...yeah. I'm in. All the way. What is this about?" He hadn't seen Ace this serious in a long time.
