Fancy shared Flick's thoughts. It shouldn't have happened this way....

Red looked over and saw Golly. Getting to his feet, he slunk back there, "Hey." He murmurred. "You heah cause you want to be, or to keep an eye on us?"

Golly glanced at Flick again and then to Red when he met him in the back. "Both" he responded to Red's question quietly but loud enough for Flick to hear as well, "I'm hopin' my presence might 'ave some of the kids thinkin' twice about fightin'... I want ta prevent as many problems for these kids as I can..." He looked forward again and in a lower tone spoke again so Red could hear, "I ain't plannin' on bookin' anybody it's a funeral for God sake. I got some respect for the dead - especially those who shouldn't be"

Fancy glanced back at Flick, Red and Golly. 'Oh just great... a bull...' she thought in half annoyance, half worry. Did this mean they expected thing's to get out of hand? She silently sent a prayer for Spike, before moving away towards the back, very slowly. She didn't want them to notice her leave, she just couldn't handle this anymore and the last thing everyone needed was for Fancy to start breaking down right there in the middle of a funeral. She slinked back a few rows and paused, doing the same thing until she reached the back. Keeping a safe distance from where the cop stood, she leaned there for a moment, waiting for that one split second that she could carefully pick her way out of the church.

Cheater finally tore her eyes away from the coffin and looked back, spotting Fancy for, what she felt, was the first time. Standing up, she slowly made her way back to her, eyes darting everywhere so as to not find the coffin again.
But it didn't work.
They were soon fixed on the coffin again, and she couldn't tear them away, no matter how hard she tried, and it was frusterating her to the point where she wanted to scream and stamp her feet, throwing an absolute tantrum...
she wouldn't do that.

Jem slipped quietly into the back of the church, and looked over the small crowd of newsies who showed up. He was small and dirty having just come in from working and would be going back immediately after.
It didn't matter who or how many came though, Spike would still be dead and none of them were there for him when he really needed them, he thought glumly. The little boy sat down in a pew in the front with his legs swinging in the air above the floor. Looking at the coffin, he couldn't beleive his friend was in there, it didn't seem real. He felt the tears building up and tried fighting them back, boys don't cry, especially ones from Brooklyn.

The minister started to talk which drowned out all other noise. Spot sat with his head bowed. (feel free to be the minister anybody)

Rusty slinked in the back door. He was late as usual and the funeral had already began. He took off his dusty newsie cap and sat in the backrow.

Fancy stared at Rusty for a full five minutes before comprehending that he was actually there. She had never seen him being so, civil, before! She pressed herself a little harder to the wall. Seeing Cheater, she began backing up again. She turned around quickly and nearly smacked poor Flick in the face. "Oh my god..." she whispered, touching his arm. "I'm so sorry..." she just wanted to get out of there....

She stood silently, eyes still fixed nervously on the coffin, not wanting tears to roll down her cheeks, but feeling them anyway. He was only a kid too... Biting her lip, and not wanting to be seen crying, dispite the fact that it was a funeral, but it was embarrassing for her either way, she quickly slipped out the door, sitting on the grass outside and composing herself.
After a few minutes, she slowly made her way back inside, sitting in her original spot.

Flick looked down at Fancy startled. For two reasons, he hadn't expected her to run into him and her outfit was defiantly not what he had seen her in, she looked good. The Flick looked into her eyes and decided that she needed to go outside. He took her by the arm and lead her out. "Ya OK Fancy?" Flick asked uncertainly

Dazzle walked into the church with Avalanche at her side. She had seen Fancy and Flick outside but hadn't stopped to ask if the service had started. She saw the preacher and sat down at the last pew to the right. She whispered to Avalanche, "Ya know anyone heah?" They hadn't really talked about who he knew when he had first been here and she wanted to know who she needed to introduce him to.

Avalanche had seen Fancy on the way in, and Flick too, but he didn't recognize Fancy, she looked different, and didn't know Flick. "Yeah... I know people." He couldn't name them all. He knew Prince that was for sure, and he knew a few other assorted newsies. He wasn't even sure if they would remember him, or if he remembered who they were exactly. He looked up at the pastor who had started to speak. "Bettah hush for now... we'll do intro's latah," he said as he took off his cap, and folded his hands.

"Yeah," Dazzle said as she looked up at the pastor too. Dazzle quieted down and then her mind began to wander as the pastor continued to talk. She heard everything the pastor said but her mind was seeing something different. It was a funeral, but it seemed different for Grace Church. And then there was different voice saying the same things this pastor was saying, but his voice was richer and more full. The Dazzle blinked her eyes and it was gone. What the hell was that? She didn't understand what had just happened but decided to pretend it hadn't even happened. After all this boy, Spike, deserved her attention and respect.

The pastor gave a very long speech... about someone he'd never met. To this day Prince never knew how he talked for so long... "And now..." he said. "If anyone would like to say something about this boy, I open the floor to them. Come up as you see fit, in any order you want, and... say... what ever you want." Prince kept her position for now, at the back of the church, but she did expect to see others go up before too long, as she would herself... after a bit. The pastor stepped away from the pulpit. Newsies didn't have to go up there, they could simply stand infront of the coffin, or stand were they sat, or go up to the pulpit it was their choice, but... he wanted the whole floor open none the less.
