"Gooooood mornin' Mista Weasel!" an overly cheerful and sarcastic voice exclaimed, and had anybody turned around they could have seen a girl dressed in newsie clothing practically bouncing over to the Distribution Center as she finally arrived at the front of the line. "How's everybody's least favorite rodent doing dis mornin'?" Need less to say, the greasy haired man was not impressed with the newsgirl standing before him, two long, light blonde braids swinging down her back. Her light green eyes sparkled with mischief and she had a cheerful grin plastered onto her face. The clothes she was wearing could have set her apart completely. She wore a light blue and white plaid, long-sleeved shirt, dark blue pants, dusty orange suspenders, and a loud orange cap perched on top of her head. The man grumbled something under his breath as she slapped down a quarter. He looked up at her with a confused expression on his face, a big mistake. "What? Cant 'cha do math, Mista Weasel?" she asked innocently. "Fifty papes, 'a course! But dis time, I'se checking 'em. Last time I asked for fifty ya only gave me forty-five." "Are ya accusin' me of lyin', ya worthless little newsie?" he growled. "I ain't accusin' you of bein' a liah," the girl spat back, her cheery nature suddenly gone. "I'se tellin' ya you're a liah!" The girl, who was fifteen, was known for such outbursts and mood swings. It was the reason she had been dubbed 'Firecracker,' since she could go from cheerful to angry with only a spark to blame. The crusty man's face turned red as he threw the papers down on the counter in front of Firecracker. "Why you liddle scheming, lying, excuse for a--" "Why, tank ya, Mista Weasel! Dose are da nicest words anybody evah said ta me!" Firecracker burst in cheerfully sarcastic, grabbing her papes and walking away calmly, a triumphant smirk on her face. She sat down, still smiling, and began to read the newspaper, looking for a headline she could 'improve.'

Race grinned back at Sweets and headed off to the window, but when he looked up again he saw someone had beat them to it. Coming up behind the girl, he chuckled at her antics, but felt relieved to see the Delancy's weren't around.
After she finished he got his fifty papes and took a seat on the ledge, looking for good headlines.

"Anythin good dis mornin?" Someone asked over Race's shoulder.
Blink cocked his head to the side as he sat down next to his friend, rubbing his shoulder. It had been bothering him lately, an old wound acting up. He had a lot of those because of the way he tended to goad people- the delanceys- into fighting him.

Sweets followed Racetrack and got her papes, still laughing slightly at the new girl. "Heya Kid," she greeted as she took a seat beside him. Glancing over to the new girl she set her papes down and grinned. "You new heah or what?"

"Not exactly," Firecracker stated, smiling slightly. "I jist haven't been stirring up enough trouble ta get noticed, I guess. Dey call me Firecracker, a long with a lot of uddah tings me muddah wouldn't like to hear comin' out of me mouth." Her eyes continued to scan the paper, frowning slightly as she found most of the headlines were rather dull. Ah well, she could find something to improve the truth. A little sewage burst could turn into a roaring flood if the right words were added...

"Heya Sweets." Blink greeted with a grin. He turned to Firecracker and smiled. "Not enough trouble, eh?" He got up and held his hand out to her, spitting in it. "Da name's Kid Blink, ya want trouble- ya follow me." He grinned. "Just kiddin."

Not at all disgusted by the spit-shake, she spat into her hand and shook Blink's hand, ignoring the disgusting feel of saliva. She'd seen worse ways to greet people. Firecracker hailed from New Jersey, and had seen how crazy it could be there. "Knowin' me, I'll be in da Refuge by sundown," she said good naturedly. "Nice to meet 'cha, Blink. So, wheah are da best selling spots 'round here?"

Mush, who had followed Blink to distribution smiled at the girl and said, "Well, you could try bottle ally, or the harbor," he suggested. They were usually good selling spots.

Hawkeye looked away from Flo as a girl she didn't recognize flounced through the gates and got her papers. After the girl, Firecracker apparently, Mush and yet another newsie Hawkeye didn't know entered.
"Ya can try 'round Harlem too," she suggested when Firecracker asked about selling spots, "I'se Hawkeye, by the way," she added.

"Tanks for da help, and it was nice ta meet 'cha all," Firecracker said, before glancing at the sky. Though she dreaded having to work, she had learned getting things done sooner was better than delaying them. Even if it was oh so tempting. Sighing, she pulled her cap lower on her head and picked up her 'papes.'
"I'll see ya all latah...hopefully," she added with a mischevious grin before leaving the Distribution Center, calling out something about 'floods of contaminated water.'

David sighed as he slowly walked towards the Distribution Center. He hated the war. Hated it with a burning intensity. While the strike had been, more or less, a good idea, the war seemed foolish. Sure, being blamed because of a dead newsie was in their territory was a big issue, but it didn't seem enough to start a war over. How many more kids would die because of this? Why should more die when it could only be one?
The Jacobs boy was a man of logic above all else, and so he too was angered by the lack of evidence in the crime. Sure, the Brooklynite had been found on Manhattan's turf, but it didn't mean a Bronx newsie was the one cleaning his knife. Heck, it could've been an old man for all they knew! Shaking the looming thoughts away, he went up to 'Weasel,' slapping down two quarters.
"100 papes," he stated nonchalantly, not politely but not rudely. The crusty old man grumbled, handing the curly haired boy a stack of newspapers. Not bothering to give his thanks, as he seemed to be lacking politeness today, he headed towards the others, sitting down and pulling out a newspaper.
"Any good headlines today?" he asked, even though he was scanning the stories himself.

'I couldnt, not with this war going on,' the Jacobs boy thought, but outside he only nodded. Well, at least Itey hadn't responded with the 'headlines don't sell papes, newsies sell papes.' He had heard that so often, had someone said it again, let's just say there would be one less newsie selling the papes.

They were all seated now in a line along the ramp, and Sweets glanced over Blink to see the boy who just bought 100 papers. The only person she knew that got that many was Jack. Leaning forward a bit more, she reached her hand across Blink's lap to the boy. "Hiya, I'm Sweets."
