Jockey sat down and pulled out a book from her pocket. She was going to get into trouble stealin' soft covers from the local venders. Her father wouldn't be happy right now if he knew she was a thief. A shrug raised her small shoulders as she settled down to read her copy of The Count of Monte Cristo. This was her life now, her father would just have to live with it up in heaven.

Sweets quietly made her way up the stairs. She had heard so much about Irving Hall and this "Medda" woman, her curiosity got the best of her. Going over to the edge she looked over the balcony, not noticing that she wasn't alone.

Hearing motion in front of her, Jockey put down her book and looked up. "Oh! Hola! Here for da show?"

Sweets nearly flipped over the railing. Spinning to face the voice, she tried to catch her breath. "you scared me!" she breathed. Feeling a little more collected she realized what was asked. "Is there a show soon? I'd love ta see it, nevah been heah before."
Now that she was over her original fright, she felt slightly awkward. Her hands were behind her back, fiddling with fray string on her cuff. "I'm Sweets," she said, suddenly coming forward with an outstretched hand.

She shrugged. "nah, it aint your fault, I'm a bit jumpy at such..." she glanced over the railing, "heights."
Trying to look casual, she moved from the edge as quickly as possible. "So, you from around heah?"

"Kinda. I hail originally from Brooklyn at da racetrack, but I lives in Queens now. Had to find some place ta git away from all da memories..." She shrugged and leaned back against the railing. "What about you? Youse from around heah?"

"Yay, I know. It's gettin' kinda hard dough wit all da newbies joinin' up an' all. It's gettin' hardah an' hardah ta find a good sellin' spot. But, life ain't supposed to be that easy. If it was, I would be sittin' pretty in some mansion far away from here..." She laughed at the thought and slipped her bookmark into her book, knowing that she wasn't going to get any reading done since she wanted to know this girl more.
