The Docks

[jade]

she splashed him when she came up for air.
'Da wata is beautiful,an i'se gonna be cold on da way home."Jade said suddenly remembering,before quickly dismissing the thought.
she went under and quickly yanked his ankle and swam up to the surface and smiled to herself.

[reeves]

"Naw, you shouldn't be that cold. It's pretty hot out. And also, if you are cold. You take my coat." Reeves said in a strict brotherly way.

He laughed when she yanked on his ankle and then a thought occured in his mind. He grinned and stayed under water, holding his breath. He stayed down there, waiting for Jade to panic, to think he had been pulled under.

jade laughed and splashed him playfully.
she went under and yanked his ankle playfully and came up to the surface and was ready to give him her most innocent puppy dog look if she has too.

[reeves]

He popped up, out of breath and grinned at Jade who was making a slight puppy dog face again.

"Stop doing that, you know I can't stand it when you give me that look, Jade." He protested smirking.

jade stuck her tounge out at him and started swimming around lazily.
"Meet anyone new lately reevesy old boy?"
"You'se seem different...in a good way...don' tink i'se don' know brotha."
jade said happily knowing what was up....her 'brotha' is growin up.

[reeves]

Reeves felt his face immediately go a little warm, and his ears were reddening. He swam a few feet too, before floating on his back.

"Yeah, I did. I got a nice little kid friend, Milo, I'm telling you, I dunno an intelligent kid as him. He knows about everything even though he's so small."

He sat up and then turned to look at her, cupping some water in his hands, avoiding her gaze slightly. "I...met a girl Jade. She ain't just any girl either...she's rich."

jade looked at him in disbelief.
"I'se happy fer ya reeves,jist watch yerself."
she smiled and studied him carefully.

Reeves sighed and pulled himself up on the dock, too tired to swim any longer. He sat in the sunshine, and dried himself off, pulling his shirt over his head and sighing, leaning against a crate. He closed his eyes before beginning.

"Well, that's the thing. Her name is Catherine. Catherine Woodruff. She's the Lieutenant's daughter. I delivered packages to her house one day. She was different than the others. She's innocent, and no, she's no poor hugger, but she's not some arrogant snob either. She's different. She hasn't seen the world. She sits in her mansion, has the same routine everyday. So when I met her, and she told me how she just wished she could go somewhere for once, I told ehr I would take her somewhere, just for a day, just show her the city. We had a good time, and I fell in love with her...now word got out...I'm worried about her. I feel like I'm just hurting her, but everytime I look at her, gosh she's so pretty I just can't leave. She just stuns me everytime. I tell her we're different. That she ain't supposed ta like some dirt poor kid like me, but she tells me she don't care. She loves me."

[jade]

jade pulled herself onto the dock and hugged her friend.
she pulled away and went over to her stuff,she put her locket onto her neck.
"Woid didn't git out,I'se jist know ya reeves."
she said happily.
"I'se glad fer ya,does yer sista know or yer brothas?"
jade shook her head wildly,letting all the excess water out fof her hair.
Jade put her hat on and took out a cigaette,as always.
"Come on."
jade motioned him to follow,as they were walking jade nudged his shoulder and said jokingly,
"Does dis goil of yers have any brothas?"
she chuckled to herself and tried not to laugh.

[reeves]

"I'se glad fer ya,does yer sista know or yer brothas?"

Reeves fiddled with the button on his green vest that hung open over his white undershirt.

"No, not yet, I'm...I'm too nervous to tell them. Not embarrassed, nervous. Danny told me I'll never get a girl, and so now I want to show him, but it ain't official. I love Catherine, but its real risky, y'know? I don't know what they'll say when I tell them I've been with the Lieutenant's daughter..." Reeves sighed and just shook his head. He followed Jade and smiled as she nudged his shoulder gently. They walked side by side, just how Reeves liked. Jade was the best sister a boy could have...besides Alice.

"Does dis goil of yers have any brothas?"

Reeves smirked slightly and nodded. "Yeah, she has two. One of them left the family apparently and the other's a snob. CAtherine...Catherine's different. She's her own person."

[jade]

Jade laughed at his seriousness.
"Ise was jokin'!"
she said and ruffled his hair.
"If you'se don' tell yoah sista and say she sees ya wit 'er...."
jade trailed off thinking about alices rath.
jade looked around as they headed off the docks.
"Ise wish ya luck reeves."
jade said softly and she looked up towards the sky and smiled at her friends new found love.

"If you'se don' tell yoah sista and say she sees ya wit 'er...."

Reeves shrugged. "Catherine came by the apartment the other day. Her family wants to send her to some boarding school in Connecticut, so that she won't ruin the family's reputation by being seen with me. My family all saw her, and I know they want to question me about it, but I guess they've noticed the mood I've been in the past couple days so they haven't said anything."

Reeves sighed slightly. He had no idea what Catherine was going to do. She didn't want to go the school that was for sure. Reeves shivered a little bit remembering her brother's words to him. Henry had called him trash and a gutter rat, and told him he would regret this.

"Ise wish ya luck reeves."

"Yeah? Thanks Jade. You'se the best ya know," He grinned and slung an arm around her shoulder before asking, "Hey you wanna come over to supper? Alice is cooking a meal tonight and she asked me to invite you if I saw you around. She misses ya."

(There's a Reeves apartment so we can actually post them at dinner )

jade smiled and nodded her head."Ya sure,but i'se gotta grab somethin at me lodging house so i'sell meet ya dere."
and with that jade jogged to the direction of the lodging house .

[Jim Turner]

-- New Day --

Jim finally made it to the Brooklyn docks, thoroughly annoyed that he had to come all the way to Brooklyn to work for the day. At The Bronx docks, work was first come, first serve, and Jim was late. A friend of his (Jim used to word friend loosely) told him about the Brooklyn Docks being so large they were always looking for additional hands, so after a long walk through the already glaring heat of the mid-morning, he had arrived.

After speaking to a burly man with a clip board (which appeared to be the only thing that differentiated laborers from management), Jim had managed to find some work unloading a boat that had recently arrived. Heaving a sigh and adjusting his cap he made his way down the dock and toward the small ship, ready for what was sure to be another exciting day of moving boxes from one place to another.

Evie was picking up something from her supplier from over seas, it was coming in at the Brooklyn docks and she moved quickly threw the men to the dock. She had no idea that Jim would be there, he was always at the Bronx and-- well grumbling so she didn't pay much mind as she skipped over a rope and held her paperwork in her other hand.

Her hand slammed down on her head to keep her hat from flying and she paused, and looked up. "Mr. Sawyer?" she looked around as she sighed, it was early but he'd said that she had to come and see to her delivery or else she wouldn't get it. Dealing with men-- they thought she was to much of a lady to come to the docks. "Mr. Sawyer?!"
