Evie had wandered the city half the night, she was from the high rent side of manhattan and looked like nothing more than a girl who had wandered for so damn long she couldn't even begin to wonder anymore. With a sigh she pulled up to the end of the docks and stripped off her jacket, she hadn't even realized it was dawn now. She didn't bother the newsboys when the whistled or otherwise. She sat down and let her legs hang over the water, gazing down at her reflection. Her cheek was a bit smudged but it didn't both her one bit.

Joe let his shirt drop next to the girl who sat on the dock. She didnt belong there but honestly it wasnt his problem. Letting his hat fall next to it he pushed off the end of the dock and dived in, making barely a splash or a ripple in the water. Holding his breath he dove as deep as he could, letting the coldness and the pressure suck the grime from his body and the warmth of air from his lungs. Breaking the surface he swam to the dock and pulled himself up. "Morning" he nodded to her as he grabbed his shirt.

She tilted her head, she should have been completely shocked and appalled that a man had just dove into the water with no shirt on right in front of her. She had to blink a moment, she felt like such a terrible girl, thinking that the man looked-- attractive that way. Soaking wet, she didn't blush-- she'd learned as much. "Good morning to you," she said with a nod, her eyes trailing up his figure. The smudge of dirt on her cheek, she looked almost like a child who worked-- but her clothes though a big dingy were to fine for that

Joe dried his chest with his shirt and smirked at her not so subtle appraisal. Throwing his shirt over his shoulder he leaned against the crates and crossed his arms. Taking a slow long look at her figure. Twice. before meeting her eyes. "Enjoy the view?" He asked

She had to swallow and lifted her head, she had that air about her-- breeding and yet far beyond her time. She managed a small and all be it shy smile, a contrast to her open ogling. "It's a fair assumption that I am-- it's a beautiful morning here on the docks--"

'Yeah the smell of seagull shit and the view of dead fish take my breath away every time." Joe smirked never once taking his enigmatic eyes from her face. This hoity toity was out of her league.

She shook her head and turned her eyes back toward the water, never taking her eyes off the waves before she slipped off her shoes and stood up, lifting her arms over her head for a moment. "A man who can't see more then a few dead fish and seagull shit is a sad one indeed.." and the fact that this--- woman who should not even BE there said the word shit was no more surprising then the fact she dove right into the dark water afterwards.

She came up and tread water, blowing dark wet curls roughly out of her eyes and enjoying the swim. The dress was heavy, it was expected to be that way but she did swim for sometime. "A gentlemen would look away--"

"A Gentleman doesnt know how to appreciate a view such as this." He said "But believe me any man, gentleman or no, looks."

She tilted her head and watched him curiously as he watched her, she used to take a swim in the Boston Harbor when she was younger, this was the first time she'd taken liberties with things in New York. It took her a moment before she swam back to the dock and placed her hands on the side, she couldn't seem to pull herself up though. "Since you appreciated the view will you help me up?"

Joe grasped her hand in one of his and pulled her up one handed until she was standing chest to chest with him. "Of course love"

She was small enough to do that with and she looked up at him when she was right against him. Her head tilted to the side with idol curiosity. You could see the line of her bodice threw the sopping wet dress and the dark tendrils plastered around her face. "Thank you," she breathed-- Marie's voice echoing in her ears about learning to appreciate her place. She-- was learning to like who she was. She'd have to thank Nick some day.

Joe's eyes followed the line of her bodice and his hand came up to follow it, while his other kept her flush against him. He nodded at her thank you. "Anytime love" He said his eyes growing hot "Wakes you up doesnt it" he said knowing full well he didnt mean the water.

Her eyes widened and she watched him, harmless, it had been all really harmless until now but she stilled. Her head still tilted she watched his eyes and stayed where she was. "I haven't-- done that since I moved here from Boston.." It was that high society sound in her voice, coupled with the idea of just-- she shook her head softly. A simple no further than this-- she didn't even know his name and, it had nothing to do with where she came from or who she was. "It's-- a grand wake up call.." she was in trouble.
