Nick quirked a brow when she finally came to. Well good, not that he cared much but shed disrupted his silence and the faster she was awake, hopefully the faster she was gone... and took the other girl with too!
He grunted a bit at her introduction and with a shrug he retrieved his fallen cigarette and relit it, leaning against the other crates not saying anything.

Shadow frowned.
"..And this is the part where you tell me your name..." she chided.
He obviously didn't want to have anything to do with anyone right now, so Shadow decided that he should stay - just to annoy the hell out of him.

(New Day)
Danny walked out on the docks, pulling out a cigarette as he leaned against a stack of crates. He had only been in America for two weeks and had finally resorted to selling newspapers. He paid his way to sleep in the nearby lodging house, but he mostly kept to himself. He sighed, taking a drag on his cigarette as he ruefully watched a few scattered snowflakes begin to fall. He hated the snow.

Not to far down the docks there was the undeniable sound of flesh hitting flesh. And a very angry looking female strode her way past Danny in a huff. The man that had been smacked didn't seem to put off by it. He pulled out his smoke and lit it, taking a long drag as he shoved his other hand in his pocket. Didn't even make a move to cover the reddening cheek as soon as the sound of her shoes on the wooden boards faded he started laughing. Somehow, Zeke never ceased to break up badly.

Danny had glanced over at the sound, shifting his weight off the crates as he leaned to the side for a better view. Seeing a woman storming in his direction he smirked, watching her backside intently as she turned and strode away down the docks. Blowing out a puff of smoke he heard the sound of laughter and raised an eyebrow, stepping around the stack of crates. Seeing the boy with the red cheek he smirked. "That your woman then?"

He hadn't stopped laughing, taking another long swig. "Not my dame, just another notch on the bedpost. Though I guess that means I'd best be sleeping in the lodging house tonight--" he turned his head and that smirk on his face never faded. He seemed almost proud of the woman's outburst. It meant that he'd meant something to her, even if all she was to him was a warm, welcoming body. "Youse a newsie?"

Danny stepped forward, shaking his head with a grin. "Aye, just started last week." He took a final drag on his cigarette before flicking it into the freezing waters below. "I take it you sell papers as well then, yeah?"

He nodded, "Sometimes." His grin never wavered as he shoved his other hand into the pocket of his coat, letting the smoke dangle a bit. "I box for my cash..." Boxing was his thing more then papers but he did both to pass the time and to make enough money to eat and pay his rent at the lodging house just in case Spot decided he wasn't coming back and gave up his bunk. "Sellin' papes, it ain't so hard. Get the right spot, the right pitch and you can move a good load. But I'm bettah at Boxin'.."

Danny nodded, genuinely interested. "Boxing huh? Where can I sign up then?" Back home Danny was a known fighter. He had been to jail more times than he could count before he was 15.

His lips quirked, "No sign ups, though I'll just have to take you runnin with me when I go next. Some matches happen in Queens, but most of em right here in good ol' Brooks.." He couldn't hide the grin, a comrade. Someone who understood a good punch.

He nodded again, finally thinking he might actually enjoy this country. "I get the impression I've landed in the best part of New York," All he heard about from the locals since arriving was praise of Brooklyn. "They call me Danny." He held out his hand, a knowing look in his eye as if they were both just rediscovering an old acquaintance.

His lips quirked and he took the other man's hand, Zeke could tell a good partner when he saw one. "They call me Backlash 'round herr but my name is Zeke. Nice to be makin your acquaintance Danny.."

Danny shook his hand. "Well tell me Zeke, is there anywhere in Brooklyn a man can get a drink then?" He hadn't had a drink since he arrived, and after selling newspapers all day, there's nothing he wanted more.

Danny nodded his head with a smirk, "McGinty's Pub." He grinned and tossed the butt of his smoke into the water as he turned to walk. "You know-- that dame had a really weak smack.."

<<<New Day>>>> Joe walked over the bridge to the Brooklyn docks, hat pulled low over his eyes. The sun was high and the shadows covered most of his face. Scanning the docks against the glare of the sun, his eyes glinted in the light as he looked out over the docks. Taking a deep drag of his cigarette he blew the smoke high above his head, leaned against a post and enjoyed the fresh air of a brooklyn morning. The docks were just waking up as the newsboys were just starting to emerge from where they spent the night. Joe joined the slow progression towards the end of the docks for a morning wake up. Putting his cigarette fully into his mouth without it going out or burning him, he stripped off his shirt and eased his cigarette back out, taking another drag from it.
