The Brooklyn lodging house is known to be the hot spot for a good game of poker, or any gambling for that matter!

Spot sighed, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck. This was all getting to be a bit ridiculous, in his opinion. The strike, the other bloody leaders; things were better when Brooklyn was its own city.
But he supposed if he just treated it like such, he could make things work. He didn't need the other leaders to do anything--his burrough was fine as an autonomous unit. Anyone who said otherwise was going to get a soakin'. He knew that for sure.
Pulling out some cards, he collapsed into a nearby chair, setting up a game of solitaire.

Joe walked in pulling his suspenders down so they hung from his hips. He sat down and proceeded to roll a cigarette. "Spot" he nodded to the leader of brooklyn and inclined his head asking if spot wanted one.

Spot acknowledge Joe with a nod. "Yeah." He gestured to the cards. "Poker?" He didn't mind Joe too much. They hadn't always seen eye to eye, but he had respect for the man, who respected him. Besides, strong men in his burrough were hard to come by these days. Too many girls.

Joe handed Spot the cigarette he just rolled and started on another one. "Go ahead an deal." He nodded his focus on the cigarette he was making.
It'd been a month since he had one, well a month last night. He drank and smoked quite a bit last night but it was the principle of the thing. But it had been over a month since he'd been back at the lodging house, since he'd spoken with people that werent scabbers. God he hated scabbers. Joe growled low in his throat with just the thought, shook his head and went back to rolling the cigarette.

"Mm..thanks." Spot nodded towards the cigarette, pulling out a match and lighting his. After taking a drag, he tossed the matches to Joe.
He dealed them out seven cards, glancing at the other man over his cards. "How's the business, Joe? You starvin' like the rest of them?"

How's the business, Joe? You starvin' like the rest of them?
Joe jingled his pocket with one hand while he picked up the cards with the other. "Nah just makin sure everyone else doesnt...." he joked while looking at the cards figuring out his options."....Woirked, sold...why, ya miss me?" Joe glanced at spot over his cards, smirking he threw two back and grabbed two more, considering them while he took a drag of his cigarette, he asked. "We bettin?"

Spot snorted, shaking his head. 'Nah. No bettin'. Friendly game, is all." He had less money in his pockets these days, making sure the kids in his lodging house who couldn't make the rent were up to date. He wasn't much of a philanthropist, but no one could say he didn't care for his kids.
"Ain't missin' anyone, Joe. Just making sure my enforcers aren't dyin' in the streets." He chuckled. "Or gettin' weak from lack of nourishment."

Joe shook his head at his cards and folded. Just wasnt worth trying when he already knew Spots hand. Joe had the uncanny ability to read people and their cards, unfortunately that didnt mean he was any better of a player because of it. Its still Lady luck when it comes to the hand he gets dealt. Now give him a good ole game of B.s and he'll win every time.
"And here i thought ya actually cared." Joe smirked and took a long drag of his cigarette. "God thats good. Ya know how hard it is ta get a cigarette when your surrounded by scabbahs?" Joe just scowled "dat was closer ta killin me den lack of nourishment." Joe muttered as he hit his cigarette again.

Spot wasn't as grand at cards naturally, but years of practice had made him pretty damn good. Smirking, he dealt again, flicking his cards. "Well, beat up whoever you want, Joe." He pushed his hat up slightly, taking another long drag on his cigarette.
"I hear the damn coppahs are pickin' up kids right now." He let his mouth fall into a firm line. "This gettin' out of hand, but I really don't see any way out but strikin'. They gonna play hard ball? We'll play right back, damn it."

Picking up his new hand Joe considered it and took out three placing it on the table. and grabbed three more. Taking a drag of his cigarette he blew out the smoke through his nostrils.
Well, beat up whoever you want, Joe.
"Ise could make a livin out of dat now a days in Brooklyn. Whats wit Queens? Dey not takin anymore or somethin?" Joe grimaced at the thought of all the girls in Brooklyn and the boys that needed to grow a pair. Shaking his head he laid out full house. Three 5's and two 4's.
They gonna play hard ball? We'll play right back, damn it.
"Ya know ya got my fists anyday." Joe said leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms. "I guess the only good thing 'bout the bulls is dere thinning out the weak of all da burroughs, leavin us da strong to play wit." Joe shrugged. "Not gonna help much, the scabbahs have a lot pullin foah dem, dey even got dere own union formin." joe muttered and took another drag.

Spot rolled his eyes and tossed down his three sixes, gesturing for Joe to schuffle. "Things been goin' down hill since stupid people in charge got us incorporated wid New York." He grumbled, taking another drag on the cigarette. "Gotta deal with who shows up on our doorstep. Wid all the shite goin' on, purgin' is the least of my problems." He disliked having so many people around, but he didn't know what to do about it right now.
<i>"Not gonna help much, the scabbahs have a lot pullin foah dem, dey even got dere own union formin." </i>
Spot shook his head. "Gots me a pretty nice record. And I doubt dem bulls ain't pulling for people like me." He ran a hand through his hair. "Is been hearin' there's a local thieves gang hangin' about. Been thinkin' of talking to him." He'd rather shack up with their likes, than join the other leaders at this point.

Joe shuffled the cards thoroughly and dealt them each seven cards, all the while his cigarette hanging from his mouth. He wasnt going to lose one second of the taste of nicotine in his mouth. It'd been just too long. Picking up his cards he took a deep drag and let the nicotine enter his lungs. God thats good. he thought and grinned. Life was good.
Things been goin' down hill since stupid people in charge got us incorporated wid New York
"We's both know dat we'll always be separate no matter what dey say." Joe shrugged. "What can we say we're a different breed." Joe smirked, he didnt mind that one bit.
Is been hearin' there's a local thieves gang hangin' about. Been thinkin' of talking to him
Joe raised his eyebrow at Conlon over his cards. "Foah?" Joe asked then shrugging he went back to his cards and considering if Spot was going to play the hand he thought he was going to play.

"We's both know dat we'll always be separate no matter what dey say." Joe shrugged. "What can we say we're a different breed."
Spot smirked. "Best breed. Can't help it if people are jealous of us.." He snorted and pulled his suspenders down, shifting in his chair slightly. He took a look at his cards, tossing out two, before picking two more up, his face unreadable.
"Foah?"
"Joinin' forces." He smirked, putting down a straight. "Not the best idea...but packin' some bigger brawn behind ours, the coppahs won't pick any of us up without some consequences."

Can't help it if people are jealous of us
Joe smirked "It coise we gots more den half a brain, Conlons." joe just shook his head at Spots hand and folded pushing the cards towards him to shuffle.
Joinin' forces
Joe frowned a bit. "Whats da name of da gang?" Joe asked he liked the idea of back up but at the same time if one was smart then you dont trust theives. Plus he worried about Palmer. Taking a final drag he let it burn before he blew the smoke out.
"Is it da same guild that some brookies got involved wit in da past?" Joe asked as he crushed his cigarette out on his boot and this time looked evenly at Spot. He wanted to know if the ones that got involved with the thieving guilds in the past would be safe now with the new alliance that might form.
