"Go west young man."
Bored? The statue is a great place for some fun, or even a nap! Also a great place to meet new friends.

Jib walked up to the statue and leaned against it. It was only last night that he was in Manhattan, but he wanted to come back and check things out. He had trouble believing that things were so bad the newsies might have to sleep on the streets. It wasn't that he didn't trust Impy... it was just he didn't believe people would hike the prices up so high.
Jib faced the distribution center, maybe he'd get some more answer as to what was going on. With his hands in the pockets of his blue pants, he watched.

After Impatient woke up, she was thinking about last night with Jib. He was a very nice person, especially since he invited her to stay with him, and he let her get his shirt soaked with her tears. Impy felt bad about that, but he hadn't said anything, so she decided to let it slide.
She was walking around a little bit, when she was at least three feet away from the Horace Greeley Statue, she saw a figure that looked descretly like Jib. Noticing it was him, she jogged up to him and smiled. "Hey, Jib. What are you doing all the way in Manhattan?"

Jib watched newsies come and go, but never got close enough to hear any of them. Out of the corner of his eye he watched a girl jogging towards him. He turned towards her to discover Impy. He smiled as she ran towards him. "Today's my day off." he explained. "I wanted to come and look around."
He gave Impy a good look, she was different during the day, he could make out more of her features. She had lovely eyes he hadn't noticed last night. Though... most of that night wasn't spent with eye-to-eye conversation. "Just check on how everyone's doing." He didn't know if he was being crazy, getting worried... but that wasn't about to stop him.

She smiled at him with her teeth showing. "Oh, well, that's nice of you to do. I never really thought anyone would do that, but I guess I was wrong." Impatient looked around and saw a few people she knew, and also waved to them.
Turning to Jib, she asked, "So, how've you been?"

Jib flashed a smile, "I grew up learning manners. I lived a lot of my life working on a ship... to keep my family from loosing everything." He spoke slowly about the second part. He had worked hard to keep his family from living on the streets, and out of that must have come a drive to help. It hit him that that was the reason he was so determined to help.
Really, the reason didn't matter, what mattered was helping. "I've been good. After walking you home, I went straight back to my apartment and fell asleep. So I really haven't done much. The walk here this morning was nice; hardly anyone was up when I started walking." He liked the city when nobody was around. It was the only time it felt open.

Impatient had on a sad smile at his last comment about his family. "I'm sorry that happened to you." She told him slowly.
Laughing a little bit at how he likes no one being awake, she commented to him that the newsies have to get up at 4:30 every morning, and usually don't go back to bed until 10 PM.

Jib shrugged, "It's good. Luckily I got a nice job, and now my family is in good hands." Which was part of the reason he was here. "Because of working on a ship, I always get up early. I don't work that late, especially because ships don't want to be trying to dock when it's dark." He liked getting up early, part of the reason that he worked on the docks.
"I tried the Newsie thing once. It was fun, but I missed the sea and ships." He looked around, trying to get in more of the area. "So, papes used to be you get 100 papers for fifty cents?" He asked it as a question, but kept speaking as if he knew the answer. "But now it's 100 papers for 60 cents." He tried to do the math in his head. "So instead of making 50 cents, your making 40. That's about a meal's worth of money taken from you." He had spent all morning listening trying to figure this out, and hoped he got it right.

She nodded her head. "That's exactly right. But don't forget, we also have to pay for lodging. Ten cents a night. But if your new, the first night is free." Leaning against the statue, she smiled at him.

Jade sat on horaces lap with a lit cigar hanging absently out of her moulth. Man selling today stunk!I sighed and took a long drag,That just what I needed. The sound of laughter filled my ears and my head snapped up to see a blonde haired boy with dark blue almost voilet eyes playing with his mother. He was around three... 'Just like Char before....No no I can't think bout him.'Jade thought bitterly. She always felt like it was her fault.Heck it was I could of did somthing but I shouldn't be thinking about it Today is a good day!Besides the selling...Jade smiled at all the rich people and getting glares and rude remarks.I huffed playfully and the little girl of one of the hoity toitys smiled at me,When I smiled back she was scolded by her mother not to talk too street rats."I'll show ya' street rat'."I mumbled under my breath.

Jib nodded, and shrugged, "I'm assuming that you've already had your first night." He tried to crack a smile, but it was a failed attempt. He was looking around when a voice caught his attention. he couldn't hear what was said, but he was sure it was a voice.
Jib looked up to the statue and saw on the other side, a girl sitting in the figure's lap. He walked a little around the statue, not wandering too far from Impy, so as not to seem rude. "Um, ahoy there?" He looked at the cigar in her mouth and was able to keep from grimacing, but the displeasure showed in his eyes. He snapped out of it when he turned his gaze on her face, rather than on the cigar. "I'm Jib." He introduced. He pointed to Impy, "This is my friend, Impatient or Impy."

Impy shrugged her shoulders. When he walked around the statue, she had a confused face on, and she followed him to find another girl who looked like a newsie. Seeing Jib grimace at the cigar, she giggled a bit, but only so he could hear her.

>>>New day>>>
Manhattan sat at the bottom of Greeley hugging her arms close to her chest, trying to stay warm. "Shit" she muttered. Any movement caused her to ground her teeth at the sharp pain that came from her chest. Looking up at the sky she closed her eyes and let the rising sun warm her face.
It'd been a month since she had sold, since she had been really anywhere near Manhattan, the city itself. "Damn its cold. Why did i ever like mornings." She muttered through chattering teeth as she waited for the distribution center to open.
The newsie that distributed the papers wiped his brow at the rising heat of the morning. God its gonna be hot today, its severly warm already this morning. He was not looking forward to what the day brought. It was going to be sweltering. Shaking his head he went to the back room and continued getting ready for the day.

((New Day))
Avalanche had wondered all around New York a million times. He'd found every back alley, every dark corner, knew the location of every empty warehouse in the city, and could work his way into the back of nearly every restaurant. He was one of the most well loved men in all of New York City. Well loved, and well known for his ability to speak, and for his height as well. At a staggering six feet plus, he gets attention. Especially when he hangs around with his newsie friends.
It had been a while since his feet had lead him to Manhattan. Though Avalanche's legs had gotten strong from all the walking he'd done. When one has nothing better to do, isn't working, eating, and is avoiding spending money, they walk, like Avalanche does. Even if he goes no where. As he walked around this shining part of the city he watched the high class children run around the street, though never straying too far from their mothers who were gossiping about Mr and Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. and Mr. Jones. The factory workers who were all inside on a day like today. Except for what he could see of one small girl who was gazing out the window... wishing she too could be outside playing tag with the other children.
It was a sad scene. New York wasn't ever the brightest of towns, but that didn't bother Avalanche too much, which was a testimony to his optimism. His eyes left the girl in the window; he knew he couldn't help her. He just wished he could help every child in New York, but that was far beyond his reach. He sighed and stuffed his hands in his pockets as he moseyed over to the statue of The great Horace Greeley. He leaned up against the plate reading "Go West Young Man" and continued to watch the people go about their daily, busy, and on going lives. People who would never know of Avalanche Johnson, despite how famous he was amongst the lower class.

Tate was en route, her eyes were bright as she looked bundled up and happy for a snowy day. She loved the snow, it was so unique and different it made the world change. She really needed to go see how Danny was doing but she hadn't been able to get away to go and do it. She worried actually, living in a lodging house and wondered if he was eating well. As with Tate there was always a skip in her step and the fuzzy hat she wore covered her ears and made her just look like a happy girl, she was carrying a basket that was covered and she was just smiling. It almost seemed like a mindless smile but it wasn't.
