PIper felt the cloth dabbing her face and she kept her eyes down, feeling hot from the hot tears pouring down her face with the mixture of blood and her hands started to shake. Those voices kept going through her head like a record player and she wanted them out of her head.
"THey tried to go somein' to me that I didn't want. I hate being a gurl." Piper said aloud in a cold tone as she moved some of her hair out of the way.

Specs was slightly alarmed by her sudden outburst. "Take it easy..." He glanced down and saw her trembling hands. "Whoa. Hey, c'mon, take it easy, huh?" He dropped the handkerchief on the couch between them, hesitated for a moment, and then took one of her hands in both of his. "Calm down...it ain't worth getting all worked up over. It's over now, inn't?"
He didn't quite know what to do. "You need somethin'? Lemme know, I'll help you out..."

Piper nodded her head and felt him take her hand gently. She did have a bit of a outburst and she felt sorry for doing that. But she just didn't want to be alone, it was too dangerous anyhow. And since she had no idea where Drifter was, she was going to try and muster through this bad step.
"Sorry for the outburst Specs. It's just...since I've had a run in with some boys before it just went too far today." PIper explained softly as she used her own sleeve this time to wipe away the tears and blood.
"And I broke Cowboy's rule, walking around alone. I was trying to look for Drifter over near the Bronx area when...." Piper stopped and took in a deep breath to calm down some more.

Specs nodded sympathetically. "Must be tough. Being a girl in this city...I'm real sorry, Piper. Hey, if I could I'd wreck them boys for ya. I would..." He really would, too, if the opportunity came up. You didn't hit girls. And you didn't just do things to them.
"Hey, hey, you don't gotta say it." Specs patted her arm warmly. "Listen. If you ever need someone to go with you somewhere, you can ask me. I'd drop everything to help someone like you out, a'right, Piper?"

"A'ght." Piper replied and sniffed, breathing in some air to get her lungs working good again. She smiled at Specs, knowing he was a good soul and would do anything to protect not only her, but the others as well. It was good to be a Manhattan newsie sometimes, knowing people were behind you to help you and protect you.
"Why can't all of the boys in New York be like ya Specs?" Piper asked in a small smirk and felt better about the situation.

Specs grinned sheepishly. "Thanks, Piper." That meant a lot to him, really. He picked up the bloodstained handkerchief again and looked at Piper's wounds. "Some more here..." he muttered, and dabbed at a spot of blood below the stinting wound.
He stopped after a moment and looked in her eyes. "You know somethin' Piper? I..." he stopped, appeared nervous for a moment, and then pushed onward through his words. "I just wanna tell ya--you--got the reddest hair I ever saw." He lowered his eyes shyly, and took the handkerchief from her face. "I dunno where that came from...sorry, if I--ah..." He trailed off, not meeting her eyes again.

As he got some more blood from her, Piper looked down at her hands, seeing them not even shake anymore. She was telling the truth when she told him he was a nice guy in New York. They were so hard to find these days. Piper saw him looking hesitant and she pushed some of her hair away from her eyes at a reflex and regular habit. Why would he say that to her? Did he like her or something? Piper hesitantly took both of his hands in hers and watched him carefully.
"Specs?" She asked him curiously, her green eyes looking at his eyes through his glasses.

Specs looked down at his hands in hers, and then up at her eyes, a look of embarrassment mingled with hope on his face. "Geez...I-I don't really know what to say." He chuckled. "I know. Me. Having nothing to say. It's just that...well...for a while now...I've thought...I mean..." He looked away, sighed, and then looked back at her with a small smile. "I think you have the prettiest hair I've ever seen." He held her gaze, and his smile grew as he squeezed her hand gently.

Piper laughed when he talked about himself having a loss of words. She then blushed furiously when he told her about her hair. That was something she knew she got from her mother, the red irish hair that was catching the eyes of all boys. She looked down while blushing, was Specs trying to tell her something.
"Thank you Specs. And you know, you're quite a handsome fella yourself. Im surprised that a lot of girls aren't after ya." Piper told him in her smile, looking back at him.

Specs grinned. "You know somethin', Piper?" He moved slowly and hesitantly, taking one of his hands from hers and touching her face gently. "I could have all the girls in the world chasing after me. And...and you might be the only one I see."

After all of the trails and hardships Piper went through while she was a Newsies, even with the fight she gotin todya and almost got herself killed, she felt all of the pain and misery melt away when Specs told her she was the only girl he saw. She looked at him with wide eyes to see if he was truly tellin' the truth to her or if she was getting her leg pulled.
"Really?" She asked in a softer tone, cocking her head to the side to really understand what he was saying.

"Maybe...if you would let me...I could convince you..." His soft smile never wavered as he leaned in toward her, closing the distance between them. He hesitiaed for a second before touching his mouth to hers in a soft kiss.

Piper felt her eyes close as Specs kissed her softly. Her heart was soaring and she felt weightless as a tear once again rolled down her cheek, over the gash and onto the floor. At fist she was happy that Specs kissed her, Specs was a swell guy who knew how to treat a lady. But then again, she knew boys who would kiss her and not mean it at all. Look at Rylet, it happened with him, it might happen with Specs. That scared Piper deep inside as she could feel some of his fingers in her hair.
Piper pulled away slowly and looked up at his signature hat he was wearing. Carefully, she took it off of him and saw his brown hair, very dark and wavy from being under his cap.
"You've got the brownest hair I've eva seen...." Piper trailed off, looking from his hair to his eyes.

Brook LeRue was waiting for Specs, it was like waiting for Blink half the time. Always late, always making her wait. When she walked into the room, she sighed and let out a breath. "Mon choux!" she rolled her eyes. Oh dear. This wasn't going to be pretty.

"You've got the brownest hair I've eva seen...."
Specs smiled at her. "You're beautiful," he said, and leaned in to kiss her again, more passionately this time.
"Mon choux!"
At the sound of the familiar voice, Specs sprang away from Piper. "Brook!" he cried, rising to his feet. "What the hell are you..." He glanced at Piper before focusing on Brook again. "C'mon, Brook, do you gotta? I'm kinda...I'm...ah..." This wasn't the first time he'd been walked in on, but it was the first time by Brook, and he didn't quite know how to react. Most of the time, when someone else walked in, he would either shoo them away, or run like hell, depending on who it was and what they had in their hand.
