Luna sat gazing up at the skies, hypnotized by the glow of the summer moon. It is hot for nighttime but she barely seems to notice as she wraps in an old wool blanket from her bunk. Feeling lonely, surprisingly so, she begins to hum an old familar but forgotten tune. She stops suddenly searching her memory for the rest of the song....

<<new day>>
Jack sighed, looking up at the starry sky. He'd been busy, struggling to find perhaps another job. He loved working as a leader, but he felt maybe he needed something more--and the newspapers weren't really appreciating his tries for articles just yet. But he was trying.

Lucky whistled from the fire escape, she'd been meaning to come and see Jack since her little drunk spurt with Fighter but she grinned a bit. "Hey JackJack--" she threw her legs over and sat on the roof, striking a match to lighter her cigarette. "You looked like you were thinkin' want me to leave ya to your ponderin?" Lucky was actually well educated, but being raised in Brooklyn despite a hoity toity aunt's best efforts left her with a lot of society to rebel against.

Jack saw Lucky, one of his old girls. He grinned, shaking his head. "Nah, aint got nuthin in my head anyways, so if yas need to talk, feel free to chat. Aint seen yah in a while anyways, Lucks." He ran a hand through his hair. "Sneaks been treatin' ya right?"

She laughed and took a drag, "He always does, JackJack-- always." She got up and dropped down beside him taking another long drag. She gave him a look and smirked a bit, "You weren't thinkin about Sante Fe again were ya? Actually I wanted to ask you what it was like out west-- wide open spaces, little law-- lots of gambling.."

"Good." Jack looked down at the small woman, shaking his head. "Nah, I went there once. It aint home, not yet. I had stuff to do here." He smiled. "The air was different there, cleaner. That is the one part I miss." He laughed. "And yes, lots of gamblin for you."

She grinned, she really had always been fond of Jack, about in the same way she was of Spot. For who she was and how she acted, she was fond of all the leaders. "Well I've only seen reverent men in church, Cowboy--- and you were really thinking hard on something-- never know I might be able ta give you some sage wisdom or something.." she snorted but it was true, Lucky didn't lack common sense-- she just didn't always care about the consequences to her actions. She knew right from wrong. She sighed, "I was talkin ta Smalls awhile back-- most of us didn't even think we'd live to see the next day. Now, most of us are getting to old for the lives we lead now--"

Jack smirked. "Just figurin out job things. Tryin' to balance it all." He leaned back, sighing. "Is aint a good writah, but I really want to work in the newspapa business, on the other side." He chuckled. "Tryin' to make a livin in somethin."

She laughed softly and took another drag from her smoke. "Yeah but you can speak, JackJack. I've heard you give a speech enough to make everyone person under 25 look at you and take notice. If you really want to be a newspaper man, I say you go for it. I mean, writing is just putting thoughts on paper-- If I were you I'd ask Dodger about that-- he's a good writer even though he'd never say anything to anyone about it." It was true, when she'd first met the Artful Dodger he was scribbling down things on a napkin.

Jack nodded. "I might actually." He smirked. "Or what about a politician. Hmm?" He laughed. "Oh lord seeing me all hoity toity, gettin people to do what I ask them to..that would be a hoot, no?"

She laughed out right and leaned onto her back. "Oh, JackJack, I can see you--- but you know a suit and tie doesn't suit you so well--" she gave his bandanna a tug-- Lucky had always been one to touch her friends. She looked up at the stars. "What you say-- in fifteen years we're both big shots somehow-- You being a big newspaper man and me-- well who really knows, I could rob some rich person I guess--" Truthfully most of Lucky's skills weren't legal.

Jack laughed. "Well politicians in the west dress not much above me, you know." He grinned. "Oh Lucky, one day you'll be legal enough, I bet." He nudged her gently. "Sweets been telling me you got in some trouble."

She smirked a bit, "Stan got his knickers in a bunch over me and Smalls--- called us street rats, we paid but caused a bit of mischief.." she did grin at him, she really did like JackJack. Otherwise she'd never have come to pester him. "Needless so say I hate jail--- the food sucks, Spot was right."

Jack shook his head. "Jail isn't so bad--Refuge is worse." He grinned. "I've been so upstanding lately, can't get into so much trouble anymore." He reached out and ruffled her hair. "Just be careful Lucky. I like ya."
