PERSONALITY

Devan can be very complicated at times, but she at heart she is a free spirit. She spent much of her life traveling with the circus and loves every moment of it. She trained from a young age to be a master trapeze artist and it has given her a certain grace that not many others can compare too. Growing up, she was used to being either ridiculed or adored. So although she may come off as soft, she does have a tough skin. It takes a lot to rile her up, most insults roll off her back as though they were water.

Devan's mother always taught her that people belittle others to raise themselves up and that is a lesson that Devan took to heart. When someone tries to mock her, she will merely smile and wish them a good day. Devan is more likely to walk away from a fight then to engage in one because she finds physical violence to be a useless outlet for anger. She is friendly with others, but considers only her fellow circus people to be true friends.

HISTORY

Devan was born in the heart of the west, while her family was traveling between cities. Both of her parents worked for the circus; her father a lion tamer and her mother a trapeze artist. They fell in love at first sight of one another and were married within a year, with Devan on the way. As Devan grew, her mother taught her the art of the trapeze. Although she loves flying through the air, she was always more taken with the modern ideas like aerial silk.

Devan never pictured or ever thought she wanted a life away from her family and friends, but her mother thought she should explore a world outside of the circus before deciding. As her caravan was traveling to New Orleans, Devan broke off and headed for New York instead. They are scheduled to meet again in the city in a few months. Devan's parents gave her enough money to get her by and she plans to find a job doing something in New York.

Although Devan misses her family and friends, she can't help but be excited at the prospect of meeting people outside of her world. She'll no longer be known as the 'Flying Butterfly' and can instead just by her name. She isn't sure if this new life is for her, but she's never backed down from a challenge before and she certainly won't now.
