Her real name's Elaine James. They call her Salem because, creatively enough, she's originally from Salem, MA.
If anything about her is to catch your eye, it'll most likely be her hair. It's big, red, and frighteningly curly. Really curly.
A wise sage (or an old friend) described her as being 'irritable, disdainful, disinterested (unless it concerns her), tactless, and judgmental. But also, on the positive side, intelligent, strong, honest, capable, and insightful.' They added that she, like most others, is capable of learning from her mistakes, which makes her more than just a nasty lady who occasionally shoots out funny remarks.
The "sage" regretting saying this afterward, as he went tumbling down a ditch, Salem shouting after him, "How's that for nasty?"
