Styx lounged back in his seat, dirty shoes propped up on the row in front of him, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, and generally looking every inch the dirty, lazy, no-good street rat society frowned upon. He’d sold his papes in record time this morning and was rewarding himself with a trip to the tracks. Granted he’d only been able to afford a dime bet, but Styx was pretty damn confident in the horse he’d chosen. “Devil May Care…” He mused the name to himself, chuckling at how much the horse sounded like him. Shit, Nike would be rollin’ around laughing if she were here. The Irish boy shook his head in amusement and took a drag of his cigarette. leaning his head back he slowly exhaled the smoke upwards and let his eyes drift closed lazily.

Calico dropped into his own chair and said nothing as he relaxed, into the chair. That was just his way though-- he rarely said much unless he felt he needed to and at that moment he didn't. He was actually there grudgingly as Sooth had spent more then his share of money on a horse that he shouldn't have been betting on. Frankly they couldn't afford his selling partner blowing all of their money on a horse.
Calico himself had taken an odd job as a farrier at the track and that was how he'd gotten word about the bet, it only made him grumble until he noticed Styx not far from him. The younger man was in his borough and they hadn't spoken much, granted Calico didn't speak much to many. Obviously he'd had a better choice in horse than Sooth had.
The race played on.

Styx opened his eyes when he heard someone sit down beside him and half-smirked when he saw who it was. Calico was not one for many words, but Styx rather enjoyed his company. He also enjoyed mucking around with Calico’s buddy Sooth, but for a different reason. Sooth was loud, fun to be around, and crazy as hell. He and always brought out the daredevil in Styx and for that he considered him a mate.
Calico, on the other hand, was the strong and silent type. Styx didn’t know him very well, no one but Sooth really did, but the few times they’d met he’d come away feeling wiser. Almost like sitting with him made you more of a man and less of a mentaller.
Chuckling a little, Styx closed his eyes and leaned back again. “Sooth bettin’ your barney dillons away on a shite horse again, Thom?”
*((Mentaller (a): crazy guy; barney dillons: shillings, sheckels, moolah, money))

Calico leaned back into the chair a bit, closing his eyes as he did so. He really didn't wanna watch, figuring he'd just be losing money, thanks to Soothe. Hell, was there ever a time when they actually agreed on the same horse? He honestly couldn't remember one.
He raised an eyebrow at the chuckle before smirking at the question. "When is he not?" His tone was a bit playful, though serious at the same time.

Sooth and Calico were quite a pair and Styx wondered what had brought them together. Though he would never outright ask, he could never dig into his friends' pasts like that, it didn't hurt to wonder. He shook his head in amusement and laughed, "Aye, there's the truth."
His horse's race was announced as about to begin, so he sat up and leaned forward on his knees. Granted, he hadn't bet much, but it always felt good to win and extra money in his pocket was always a bonus.Looking over at his friend, he ginned and nodded toward the track, "Which one's your money ridin on, mate?"

Calico looked amused at Styx and nodded a bit in agreement, "Honestly can't remember a time we ever agreed." Leaning back a bit further in the chair, watching as the race was announced to begin, he looked onto the track and started watching, despite being pretty sure he'd be losing money. It was still entertainment and a way to cure boredom when you had nothing to do but sit there, he figured he might as well watch. He pointed to a horse and shrugged, "That's the one Soothe's bettin' on." Pointing to another one, "I'd have money ridin' on that'n." He looked at Styx, "You?"
(Sorry it's short, ugh)

Abby had been at the track for a little while, she did the math-- knew who was going to win and who probably wasn't. She made her bets had already sold papers and was walking down the track line when she saw her brother and Styx in the seats watching the race.
Walking up behind her brother's chair she leaned on it, clasping her hands together as she leaned forward, "Which horse?" she asked looking to the track and then over at Styx nodding her head.
"How's it going? Girls still falling at your feet in puddles?"

Styx chuckled and grinned, knowing that though that wasn't entirely the truth, it definitely seemed that way most of the time. The two of them were such complete opposites it was a wonder they were friends at all. In fact, he and Sooth were so similar, it was a wonder Styx and Calico got along... But get along they usually did and he wasn't inclined to really analyze why.
When Calico pointed out Sooth's horse, he couldn't help but wince. "Yikes, mate..." he said, clapping him on the back, "I feel for ya." It wasn't the last horse he would have picked, but it was damn close. At Calico's question, he pointed to Devil May Care, "That long-legged black one; number twelve." He liked Abby's help picking horses, but he didn't need it like Sooth apparently did and made a mental note to have his friend consult her before making his next bet. And speak of the devil...
He looked back as Abby arrived and took a drag of his cigarette, blowing the smoke out through his nose. "'S goin lovely, Abs, 'bout ye?" he replied, then grinned cheekily at her and winked. "Now what do you think?"
*(('Bout ye (phr): how are you doing?))

Cal smiled as he heard his sister's voice, "Soothe has money ridin' on Armed & Dangerous, I wanted Lightenin'. Hell, so what if he hadn't been telling the whole truth, people still knew he had a point. An odd pairing they were, but deep down, they knew he didn't mind. Soothe was half like the mouth for Cal, even if he had less of a filter, and he didn't always exactly speak for him. The two were close, despite their differences. Hell, sometimes because of their differences.
He smiled a bit at Styx, "...Thanks." He nodded in approval at his friends' choice, not that he needed it, "Good pick." Calico looked amused in between Abby and Styx, rolling his eyes teasingly. "Riight."

Abby pinched her brother's cheeks before rolling her own eyes at Styx. They had an interesting relationship between them as one of the few women who didn't fall at the new leader's feet. She had become more of a sister to him than anything else over the years and truth be told Abby wasn't even remotely interested in him other than a leader and well a friend. He was a good friend at least, like a brother.
Her brow lifted as she turned to look out onto the track, watching the horses go around the track before she leaned back a bit, doing the odds-- math in her head which was always something else all together. She was a genius, it was more of the reasons why she was one of the few Queens girls that wasn't nearly beat up every time she got near Brooklyn. Then again being as close to Virgil as she was didn't hurt.
"He picked a dud again," she replied as she leaned her chin on her brother's head, comfortable doing so.
