((NEW DAY - Open to anyone))
Prince was out for the day, and she was on her own. She was selling papers fairly legitimately at the time, no lies, no stories, no improving the truth. She didn't want to really, she didn't quite feel up to it, so she was simply out selling. It was a busy morning, but for Prince to just have to interact with the strangers on the street made her happy. Of course she was in a fine mood, but today just sort of seemed calm compared to days lately, and she was just fine with that.
It was snowing, but not hard, and the wind was no more than a breeze, so it wasn't biting cold. The lack of frigidity was a good thing, and she was hoping that the edge of winter would be gone for the year. She didn't expect it to be likely, but it was worth a shot. She walked through the snow shouting headlines with a paper above her head, her hair up in her hat, and her voice down low to keep her identity safe.
As she walked she noticed a young couple walking the other direction. It wasn't so much that they were a couple that caught her eye, it was the dress the girl was wearing. It was so pretty, and such a nice shade of green. She was covered in a long coat and carrying a muff. Probably had plenty of money, Prince thought. She didn't want the money either... she just wanted the dress... she wished she had to solve the problem of how to keep the snow out of her skirts. She was brought back to reality as a man came up to her and asked for a paper. She smiled and nodded before handing him one in exchange for a coin. He thanked her and walked off. Prince sighed and went back to hawking her headlines.

Anya was watching the same couple. She envied the dress as well. She looked down at her own and sighed. She really needed a new one. She walked up to a group of men and asked them if they wanted a paper and smirked when 3 of the men bought one. She took their money and quickly walked away from the group.
She saw Prince down the street and smiled. If she hadn't know she was a girl she might have questioned why she was looking at the couple. She walked up to her and smirked " I wish I had a dress like that ". Hell she wished she had a muff too just to keep her hands warm. She yelled out another head line and handed the paper to the woman that walked up to her and looked back at Prince
" You would think we would get extra pay to work in weather like this " she smirked at her own joke and pulled her jacket tighter. She didn't mind the snow so much but it was the cold she hated.

Prince smirked a little and shook her head. "Yeesh," she said quietly keeping up her facade. "Girls and their clothes..." she smiled a little to Ghost trying to show her it was just a joke, and only for appearances. But all the same, she knew it to be true. After all, she'd been the one to start it. A small gust of wind came up and she reached up and grabbed a hold of her hat, like she always did in the wind. She couldn't have it flying off.
"Yeah," she said nodding. "But that ain't never gonna happen," she added glancing at ghost once again. "Neither rain nor sleet, or snow... or... somethin'... no matter what the weather... there's always headlines." True, the newsies would find stores with over hangs to sell in front of, or they'd on occasion go into public places and see if anyone would like a newspaper there, but for the most part, the newsies braved whatever elements were attacking at the moment in hopes of making a dime, and something that resembled a living.
As the wind died down she released her hat, and held a paper up yelling yet another headline. "So!" she said to ghost between customers, "I see you're gettin' the hand of this whole... sellin' thing? See! I told ya it was no big deal... and you was scared," she said with a small smile and a shake to her head. "Told ya, you was gonna be just fine. Now, was I right, or was I right?" She couldn't help it... she liked to be right.

Anya rolled her eyes and laughed when Prince asked if she was right and nodded " you were right ". She held off selling her papers so that she didn't take money from Prince and licked her lips " It anit that bad. People mostly ignore me and grab a paper if they want one ". She didn't have any fancy tricks like some of the kids did.
She shoved her hair out of her face and watched Prince and smirked when a guy said thank you young man and went along with it. It wasn't going to be Anya that ratted her out that was for sure. She waited till most of the customers retreated back into the buildings or stores and sighed " That dress really was lovely " she got a far away look in her eyes and smiled " of course I wouldn't know what it would be like to have somethin like that "
She flipped through the paper in her hand looking for something good to sell and smirked when she saw a headline " Trash fire next to immigration building terrifies seagulls ". She thought up a line in her head and nodded " I could use this. " She had been afraid of the whole improving the truth thing to sell but now that she was doing it she was starting to like it

"Yeah," Prince said trying not to focus on the things she couldn't have, she found it just made you sad and wished you were somewhere else, though most of the newsies did that anyway, she didn't need kids running around the streets at all times of night lamenting about going to other destinations and having better lives than the ones they had in New York. She preferred to have kids happy, or at least contented while they could be. So for this reason, she was glad when Ghost started leafing through the paper looking for good headlines.
With a sigh Prince leaned over and looked at the paper Ghost had in her hand to look at the headline. "Really? That's the best they can do? God... damn it's amazing we make any money out here with headlines like that!" True, it wasn't a major story, and yeah it wasn't one anyone was gonna read, and maybe headlines didn't sell papes, newsies sold papes. But all the same... couldn't they help them out a little?!
Prince turned the page in her own paper and found a headline reading, 'Mine entrance collapses, none injured.' Without reading the headline out loud, or saying another word she blinked a few times in thought. She then raised the paper over her head and said, "Entire mine collapse! Injured and death toll may climb to the hundreds!" Prince had to admit, she did at least like her job, if all it did was give her a reason to make up stories.

Calico walked up to the two females, smirking, having overheard their headline titles. They amused him so, for whatever reason. He feined looking over and reading one of his headlines, knowing a fair amount of them at this point. "...Giant swarm of locusts attack ladies' purse.." He grinned, "Even better, 'baby born with three heads.' Must be from Brooklyn." Smirking at the last response -- that was all him.
He shrugged, still looking somewhat amused before turning to the new newsie, eyebrow raised, "And you would be? I'm Calico." Plopping down on the sidewalk, he rummaged through his pile of papers in search of a better headline, though fell silent to let them talk, and so he could go through the papers for more headlines he could improve in order to sell more of them. Hey, it may not have been much, but it was a living, and for most newsies, it was all they had. Besides, Calico wasn't much for talking anyway.

Anya flipped the page closed and held up the paper " Huge fire on Ellis Island, Thousands flee in panic " She smiled at the ladies that had come up to her and she handed them each a paper and quickly took their money and walked away before they could realize she was talking about seagulls. She walked back over to prince looking for another headline and smirked at her headline about the mine and shook her head " what page is that on? " She wasn't going to steal her headline she just wanted read the story
She looked over when someone asked who she was " Anya " she looked back down at the paper and set down on the side walk next to him and flipped through her papers. She hadn't see him around before. She looked up from the paper a few seconds later " locust attack ladies purse? " She had to smile at that one. She was different with girls it was harder to talk to guys

Prince looked down at Calico and shook her head a little with a small roll to her eyes. "Twelve," she said answering Ghost's question to what page it was on and smirked a little. "Good afternoon Cal," she said with a smile and a small nod to the man. She was well acquainted with Calico, since he'd lived in Queens for a while, and Anya had only moved in a few days ago. She was rather interested in how these two would get along. She smirked a little and folded her papers half ways and leaned back against the wall.
Besides, it was never a good plan to improve more than one headline at a time. You started making up too many stories and suddenly people had more places to look for these so called headlines. It worked much better to pick a story somewhere beyond page five, and then roll with it until it stopped working. A kid could sell all day on a decent, or improved, headline if it was good enough. "Anya is new to Queens," she said turning her head towards Calico and giving him the information. "Care to... say hello?" she asked with a small teasing smile on her face. She knew Calico wasn't the most talkative person, so she was messing with him a little bit.

Calico shrugged to himself, still listening to Prince and the new newsie before turning to Anya upon her giving the name with a small nod. Not the most sociable person in the world, but hoped it was enough to get the message across that he heard her. What was he supposed to say? 'Nice to meet you?' Yeah, that probably would've been the better way to go than nothing, but oh well. When in doubt, don't. So he just didn't say a word.
He smiled a bit, looking up at her from the papers, having going back to rummaging through them in between people walking up to the sidewalk and buying a few here and there, give or take a little. "Maybe," he answered, a small smirk playing upon his lips at this, showing a bit of amusement.
Nodding at Prince in understanding that Anya was new to Queens, he had figured as much. He rolled his eyes in response at being told to say hello, another light smirk tugging a bit on his lips at this. "Hello?" He stuck his tongue out at Prince playfully before turning back to Anya again. "Welcome to Queens."

Anya looked between the two of them and smiled when Prince told Calico to say hello. She looked down at her papers and flipped the pages again trying to figure out something to use. She smirked when Calico said hello and welcome to Queens and looked up at him " you don't have to talk if you don't want to. " She could tell he was a quite person. She liked that, those type of people didn't always want to know your business
She handed a paper to one of the gentleman that walked up wanting a paper and laughed when he walked away grumbling about newsies being lazy. She didn't say anything for a few minutes. She liked Prince and she liked Calico but that didn't mean she was going to tell them her whole life story. She finally pushed her self up off the sidewalk and walked toward a group of people selling the rest of her papers
She walked back over to Calico and Prince and shoved her hair out of her face and looked at the two of them talking and licked her lips. She liked it here people were nice and didn't make you feel out of place.

Prince was trapped between two quiet people who weren't going to be speaking to each other any time soon simply because they weren't going to talk. She wondered what would happen if she just... left, and left them standing there to deal with one another. They'd probably say goodbye, and then never speak to one another again. Not that she cared if Calico and Anya were friends, didn't make that big of a difference to her really, but she did prefer kids in her borough to get along. Meant less conflict later.
"Well, that was congenial," she said with a sideways glance to Calico. "Thank you..." she sighed a little bit and glanced down at her papers. She watched Anya walk away to sell to a few other people. "where ya been Caly?" she asked with a small smile as she came down and sat on the curb next to him. "Ain't seen ya around much lately. Been busy huh?" she said teasing him a little. She didn't know where he had been, but she guessed it was something she could tease him about With newsies it usually was anyway, they didn't go to important places often.

Calico shrugged a bit as Anya told him he didn't have to talk, though smiled a bit appreciatively. He wasn't going to talk unless he had to, and he definitely wasn't gonna pry her with questions about her past or life. Lord knows Calico wasn't the type to talk about his past or life either. Like most newsies, he grew up in an orphanage, but it wasn't like he'd ever talk about that with anyone, except maybe Abby because she was there. He still remembered the looks on his parent's faces the night they died in the fire, could still hear his father's voice shouting for them to run.
He shrugged a bit at Prince. "It kinda was." The welcome was at least genuine if nothing else was. He nodded at her thank you and shrugged again. "You're welcome." Nodding again, he answered her, "Yeah, been a bit busy. I've been... around." Wasn't like he was going to tell people where he had been, that was...none of their business, really. Maybe Prince's.

She'd been wondering around the alley's a few last papes in her hands as she rolled them up and shoved them in the back pocket of her trousers before pushing a hand through her fiery red hair and lighting a cigarette. Cherry hadn't seen much action lately and she was itching for some but she didn't exactly know where to find any right now though either. She reached for her papes in her pocket as she took a long drag and she unfolded one as she continued walking down the street, her eyes thoroughly scanning the pape as if something would just pop out and bite her in the nose, something fun, risky, exciting...but nothing. She had seen feet ahead of her but hadn't thought much about it, her hair draping into her face, her cigarette in her mouth and...THUD. She fell right on backward on her bum after bumping into a girl. She looked up her eyes innocent and she began to stammer abit.
"Sorreh, I'm sorreh, I should realleh pay more attention," she spoke as she looked more clearly now, two girls and a boy that looked familiar, they were from the same borough as she was, and she was pretty sure the girl she just bumped into was leader. She sighed and took a moment before she regained her composure and stood up wiping her hands on her pants as she looked down again. "I truly am sorreh," she restated, Prince was well known, but with Cherry not really being too social she wasn't too good with names or getting to know people, but she figured she kindaa stumbled upon this one.

Anya had walked back over to the group right when a red headed girl ran into Prince. She was going to help her up but the girl got up on her own. She set down next to Calico and looked up at Prince not sure how she would respond to being plowed into.
She looked over at Calico and smirked " So how long have you been around here ? " She was surprising herself by even holding a conversation with him but he was easy to be around. She was still nervous around him but he seemed like a nice enough person. He was cute too. She pushed her hair out of her face and watched Prince interact with the new person.
She felt for the girl. She had been scared to death of new people as well and it would have killed her to run into someone like that. She probably would have turned around and ran off before anyone could say anything
