Jewel thought long and hard about a question Luke had asked about her sister. She shook her head sadly, and shrugged.
"My sister? Right...I sort of think there's not much use in giving a shit about her anymore. I've accepted the fact that she's either not in New York...or she's just DEAD!" She said.
Jewel had no idea where this sudden dark attitude of hers suddenly came from. But suddenly, it didn't matter to her that her own sister was alive or dead.
Jewel nodded, a dark smile crossing her face as she looked at Luke. "Oh, I've been staying out of fights alright. What good does it do to get into them anymore....they only cause me trouble." She said.
Something angered her as her green eyes turned dark ."I was just so sick of everyone thinking of me as a little child...just cause I'm short. I'm sick of having to take people's shit all the time. I'm gonna be 16 in June for fuck sakes, and all I want is to be treated like a young adult. I want out of this life I'm in so badly...if I just find someone to help me.I will do anything." She said to Luke in a dark tone.
There last encounter had been very strange, since they had just met, and her face looked like hell. She was determined to make this encounter better. She then smiled at him "Although I am glad that things are going well for you. I was kinda worried that I'd never see your handsome face again.

And now she was back to talking about her sister, Luke shook his head as Jewel seem to teeter between anger and sadness, words ripping out of her mouth to the questioned he'd asked what felt like ages ago. Oh this girl, she was a special breed of unsettled now wasn't she? "Trouble..." Luke said, nodding his head sagely as though Jewel had just stumbled onto some great meaning yet unknown to him - the reality was Luke knew a great deal about all sorts of trouble. "Fighting does have a way to leadin' to trouble," Luke continued, playing with the blade of his knife, watching as it glinted in the sun before turning to shoot Jewel a toothy grin. "Good thing I like trouble."
Anger flashed in her eyes and she spouted out a litany of complaints, the least of which was some muddled noise about not liking being called a little child. Luke smirked as he looked down at her - he towered over her, but it wasn't simply her size that spoke to her age, it was the youth in her face, no lines belying age, only the petulant attitude of a pesky young thing. Stupid, misguided little urchin had something of a sore spot did she? "Funny thing about that lass," Luke said, looking up from his knife as he let the blade fall back into place and pocketed the weapon, nearly wanting to laugh as she tried to veer the conversation towards something of a flirtation. "You are a child," He took a step back from her, kept his eyes on her as he gave her an apprising look before letting a slow smirk settle on his features. "And no amount of batting those big green eyes at me is going to change the fact that you are just a little girl."

Jewel looked at Luke, her green eyes still flashing with anger. She hadn't been this angry since her encounter with the Brooklyn kids on the bridge a few months ago. She stiffened as she heard Luke call her a 'child' and a 'little girl'. Her blood begin to boil suddenly, and her hands balled up at her sides into fists.
"I AM NOT A LITTLE GIRL, YOU BASTARD!!!" She screamed at him.
Then with every ounce of strength she had in her body, she picked up one of her fists, and punched Luke directly in the gut hard.
"Also, I was not flirting with you all this time...I WAS ASKING FOR HELP!" she yelled at him.

Luke laughed when she railed at him, seems pushing that button really did set the girl off, it was almost a shame it was so damn easy to do. "Tsk, tsk," He said, brushing aside the punch his gut that barely felt like graze. "Such language from that pretty little mouth of yours." He caught one of her wrists with his hand, wrapping his fingers firmly around her thin arm and pulling her close so that he could look right down into her eyes. "You really ain't got the sense the good lord gave you if you were asking me for help lass," He continued, not letting go of her wrist, just looking down at her with his smile taking on a hard edge.
"I'm not the sort you go asking for help from lass," Luke said, letting his eyes flicker out over the dark water as it lapped against the wood of the dock, inviting in all the dark and dank ways that it could be. "You really should get a hold of that temper Jewel," He scolded, his tone lapsing towards easy friendliness even as his fingers on her wrist tightened. "Tongue like that could get you into a world a hurt and the sort of trouble you aren't likely to get out of." Luke released her hand then, shoving her away slightly before shooting her another smile. "Just a little advice."

Jewel was horrified as she felt Luke grab her wrist. She felt his long fingers wrap around her arm as she looked up at him
"Why is that you just won't listen to me? I just want some help! I will do anything within reason for someone to help me! So sue me, if I thought you were the right choice! I figured since you were so nice to me last time, that you'd be willing to help me!" she said.
She was surprised when the punch she had given him barely fazed him "Listen, I'm so sorry I tried to hit you....whatever you do...please don't hurt me." she said.
Jewel sighed as Luke pushed her away, her eyes wide with exasperation
"You are so fucking stubborn! I run into you again, asking you for help, and all you do is push me away. I was never trying to flirt with you...By the way...why did you want the names of those Brooklyn girls that time on the bridge?" She asked.
She then glared at him, her smile fading as she inched closer to him "Who are you, REALLY?" she asked.

"Oh I can hear you just fine lass," Luke assured her, watching as Jewel seemed to get more frustrated with each passing moment and the entire affair just made him want to burst into laughter. "It just seems you can't decide what it is you are most upset about, it's rather like trying to keep up with a bouncing ball some of your friends play with on the street - and really, who has that kind of time?" Luke said, rubbing a hand over his face as he looked over at her, wondering how in the world this mess of a girl had managed to make it this far, this long, in this city. She kept running her mouth where it didn't belong and she wouldn't last much longer, that was for damn sure, pull an act like she had today on Killian or Flynn and she'd be floating down the river already. Luke, for his part, preferred to enjoy the show.
"It seems to me that girl might have been onto something, that Fighter girl, when she walloped you one?" Luke mused, rubbing his hand over his chin as he mentally quirked a smile, wondering just how spun up Jewel could manage to get over a bunch of nonsense. "With the way you talk, begging for me not to hurt you one minute, asking a bunch of prying questions the next, surprised you don't have another shiner to go along with the one you had before," He commented, lifting a hand and running his finger down along her face as he grinned and shrugged lightly, before patting her gently on the cheek. "Best you keep your nose out of other people's business darlin'," He recommended, taking a step away from her and looking towards the sky where the sun was starting to sink lower. "That way you won't find yourself in that trouble you keep tellin' me you're trying so hard to avoid."
Shoving his hands in his pockets he studied her for a moment, an amused smile on his features before he shook his head and turned to move further down the dock. "Really should be gettin' back now, brother will be looking for me and all," He explained, his voice regaining that natural easy friendliness that he usually wove so effortlessly into his words. "Have a good day lass." Then with a wink and another wicked grin, Luke turned and headed down the dock, whistling a tune as he went.
