A shorter pier that is used for little row boats. No one spends much time here since it is shorter than it's northern counter part, and the waters are more shallow too.

*NEW DAY* (RESERVED) Devan had no idea how she'd ended up wherever it is that she was. With a small sigh she turned down the dock and walked to the end of it before sitting and placing her head in her hands. How could she have wondered so much that she had no idea where she was? She should have never gone so far from her hotel, but she hadn't even thought about the possibility of finding herself lost. She desperately wished she weren't alone in this godforsaken city. She knew that her family wouldn't allow her to get lost. They had much better senses of direction then she did. She tended to let her mind wander too much and paid too little attention to what was going on around her.

Blaize liked the southern pier more than he did the northern one. It was shorter, which meant it was less used and a bit more secluded. The water was shallow enough that he could walk along it without too much trouble, though he needed his shoes if he wanted to get up onto the pier. It was a little too rocky to chance with bare feet once you left the water. But he was too content to worry about it right now, his shoes held in one hand as he just walked up and down, watching the water swirl about his ankles. It was far safer than the water in Brooklyn, but it was always good to watch where you were going. Just in case.
He wasn't even sure how long he'd been out until he caught sight of Devan, her head in her hands. He frowned, breeze ruffling his blonde hair before he jumped into his shoes and took the rocks easily, jumping up onto the pier and walking her way, making enough noise so she'd know he was coming. "Miss?" He paused a foot or so away, bent a bit so he could maybe catch sight of her face. She didn't look familiar. "Are you all right?"

Devan raised her head from her hands when she heard someone approaching her on the dock. She glanced over her shoulder before moving so she could stand and face the boy. He looked to be about her age so he wasn't terribly intimidating which was a good thing considering she couldn't see anyone else on the dock. She tilted her head to the side slightly, and studied him quietly for a moment before answering his question. "I sort of got myself turned around."
She didn't want to admit that she was completely and utterly lost. She remembered crossing a bridge at some point but couldn't really be sure how she'd gotten there or where she'd gone from there. Devan couldn't help but be horribly embarrassed by the whole thing. Her parents had constantly told her not to wonder when they arrived in a new city and New York was probably the biggest city she'd ever been in.

She would be hard pressed to find many people out this way anyway, not at this time of day, and especially not on the dock. He liked it that way. Blaize straightened up when she stood, stayed silent for a moment until she spoke and he grinned, a bright smile that lit up his face. "That's nothin' to be worried about. Happens all the time down this way. You're in Queens, miss." He knew a lot of people refused help from newsies, which he obviously was, despite being horrendously lost. It amused him a lot of the time. Why not take directions when you were given them? Why be so stubborn? But she didn't look like one of those women. In fact she didn't look much older than he was. "Where were you trying to go?"
Blaize could understand that one perfectly well. He'd done a lot of traveling in his life and he still couldn't remember being near or in a city as large as New York before. But it wasn't too hard to get used to the ins and outs and if you stayed around long enough you'd learn the twisting streets and the various bridges as well. But of course she was in Queens and Queens was a good deal bigger than some of the other boroughs, including Manhattan. Most of the people that got lost in these parts came from there, surprisingly. So he really was used to it.

She tried not to let her expression show how clueless she was when the boy told her she was in Queens. She had absolutely no idea where that was though. God, she was so stupid to have continue to walk as far she did without even trying to stay near somewhere she would recognize. Devan was so lost in her thoughts she nearly didn't hear his question, but she caught the tail end of it and could hazard a guess at what he'd asked. "Manhattan, I'm staying at hotel in Midtown."
At least that's where she hoped it was, but she was nearly positive. She brushed her hair back off her face as she stepped closer to the boy, "Would you mind pointing me in that direction?"
She supposed she'd have to find it eventually, she just wasn't looking forward to wondering around the city once it got dark. The man at the front desk had made sure to tell her to be back before it got dark when she'd mentioned she was going for a walk. She hadn't really paid much attention to him then, but now she wished she'd had. Especially since he'd also told her it wasn't safe to wonder around alone and it was easy to get lost.

"Oh. Well then, you're not terribly far." Blaize just grinned, pulling his hat from his back pocket and pulling it back over his blonde hair. "At least you weren't knee deep in Brooklyn or the Bronx. It's not a bad enough walk, and simple enough to get back." He smiled at her question and just shook his head. "I'll do you one better. I'll take you." He didn't have anything else to do anyway, and he always liked talking to someone new. He supposed he wouldn't be a newsie if he didn't like people. It was sort of the entire point; if a customer knew you didn't like them, they wouldn't buy from you. It was pretty much simple customer service.
Blaize had a small enough route compared to some of the other's in the Queens' lodging house, but he didn't mind, and he sold plenty just by smiling at people. Enough to get him by, and he supposed that was all he really needed to worry about. "I'm Blaize." He held his hand out, smile not once leaving his face. "I could just give you directions, if you'd rather, but it'll be getting late soon and you don't want to make a wrong turn." Wrong turns more often than not led right into Brooklyn, and he really didn't think she'd want to be in Brooklyn once it got dark.

Well, it was certainly a relief that she hadn't gone as far from Manhattan as she'd originally thought she might have. From the way he spoke, she figured she'd ended up in the best possible place if she were to get lost. When he offered to take her she smiled, but didn't want to be a both. "That would be wonderful, as long as it's not out of your way." She'd hate for him to have to walk a long way just to get her back to where she needed to be and then to walk back home himself.
Devan took his hand, her smile widening as she shook it lightly. "Devan," She said in a quiet tone. "Nice to meet you." She was glad to run into someone who seemed so friendly. From everything she'd heard about New York she hadn't expected to find many friendly people and so far everyone she'd met had been fairly nice. "As long as you don't mind taking me, I wouldn't mind the company." She smiled brightly at him, truly appreciating his offer. She also would enjoy having someone along for the walk, it would keep her mind from wandering.

Queens was the best place to get lost in. There were plenty of helpful people, mostly newsies, willing to point you or lead you in the right direction, and even though it was a huge borough, it was pretty easy to maneuver once you had the hang of it. "I don't mind." He wasn't going to lie and say it wasn't out of his way, he lived in Queens mind you, but he didn't mind walking her. Not at all. And his smile backed up his words rather well. "It's easier than telling you a bunch of confusing directions anyway."
"Likewise." He let her hand go and motioned towards the end of the dock. "After you." Oh it depended on who you talked to, and where you were. The general population of New York varied, but the newsies were generally a nice bunch. Even those over in Brooklyn could be civil if you weren't disrespecting them and trespassing on their territory. "Not at all. I wasn't doing anything anyway. I finished selling a while ago, and the second edition isn't anything special." It wasn't worth the hassle, and his designated route was quiet in the evenings anyway.

Offers him a wide smile at his reply, "Thank you. I really appreciate you doing this, but are you sure it isn't too far out of your way?" She knew she had enough money for a coach in her room if it was really late by the time she got back. She'd offer it to him as a thank you when they got to the hotel, that way he wouldn't have to walk if he didn't want to. Maybe she should have brought some money with her when she'd left but she honestly hadn't thought she'd wonder as far as she had.
When he released her hand, she smiled and stepped around him to walk towards the street. He was being such a gentleman she had to smile slightly at the gesture. "So you sell two editions of the paper a day?" She asked quietly, hoping that didn't sound like a ridiculous question. She couldn't remember ever being in a city that needed two editions of a newspaper a day. She guess that just went to show how big of a city New York was. "Do you enjoy your job?" She was curious about the lifestyle of a newsie, she had after all seen them all over the city.

<New Day - Open>
Luke Gallagher was bored. The sort of bored that crawled under ones skin and made a man restless, which was never a good thing for a Five Points member. When Five Points was bored, they were in the habit of stirring up trouble, the problem was, Luke considered as he cut into an apple with his knife and popped a slice into his mouth, there wasn't a whole lot of trouble to be stirred at the moment. All their well thought out and made plans had more or less eased to an unsteady stop for one reason or another and Luke didn't like the feel of it one bit. He hadn't even gotten the chance to test out the knife that Murphy had been so kind to bestow on him, classy piece of work and not a drop of blood to show for it. It was a shameful thing when a Gallagher could get restless in a city such as this, a shameful thing indeed.
He'd thought about dropping in on Sonkai, no doubt the woman had her charms despite what his friends thought, and while the idea held a certain appeal it didn't spark with his mood at the moment. No Luke wanted something to get his hands dirty, ease that gnawing feeling in the back of his mind that spoke of idle hands and what they might be doing. He bit into another slice of apple and gazed out over the water, feeling the darker edges of his mind swirling in and a slow smile curved across his lips. It wasn't often that he was the one riding the darker edges of the circles of hell reserved for the members of their gang - no, typically those were the fine lines walked by his brother and Killian - Luke was the laid back charming one, tapping in on brutality when it was needed. But every so often, Luke got a taste of the sort of wild darkness that lurked in his own blood; deadly, lingering and waiting to strike. It was these thoughts that trailed through his mind as the knife in his hand bit once more into the soft flesh of the apple in his other.

Jewel had taken a walk into Queens on this particular day...the weather had gotten a little nicer since the last time she had come out here. It was just her luck that she would end up on a pier. She walked along there, taking in the sights and just relaxing. Lately, things had been stressful in the Bronx.
She went along her day, selling papers, looking after Sweetheart, and everything else that had been happening lately. But she had decided to just get away for now, and take it slow.
As she walked, she noticed a familiar face from a few months ago. She smiled *Well well, Luke...never thought I'd see you again,* she whispered as she approached him.
"Hello there, Luke....long time, no see." She said as she came in front of him with a smile.

Luke mentally cursed when he heard his name, spoken in a soft feminine voice that he recognized from somewhere in the vague recesses of his memory - one that rarely failed him. Plastering an easy, charming smile on his face he turned and found himself looking at the red headed girl who had practically thrown herself at him after unknowingly parting with some valuable information. What was her name? Ruby? No. "Jewel," He said, letting familiar recognition color the tone of his voice as he smiled over at her, slicing into the apple and biting thoughtfully into the slice.
The truth of the matter was, the child had all but outlived her usefulness to him, any information she had now would have been long since uncovered by the gang and with things being as they were he wasn't much in the mood to pick her brain for the latest going ons of the street urchins. But he was bored and she'd been a trifle bit of fun to toy with and as long as she didn't ride on his last nerve it might be a form of entertainment for him. He ran the tip of his knife along the remaining skin of the apple, watching as it glided along the red skin and making a mental note to once again thank Murphy for the fine piece of craftsmanship. "How's things?" He asked, slicing off a piece and considering it for a moment before popping it into his mouth. "Ever find that wayward sister of yours?" Because though her name might have escaped him for a brief moment, it all had come back now, his flawless memory a vital tool in his chosen line of work.

Jewel smiled as she saw him turn to face her. She had missed his handsome face since their encounter on the 3rd Avenue Bridge all those months ago.
She watched as he cut the apple. She smiled "I should be asking you how things have been lately? I haven't seen you since March or something? But as for me...things have been a tad stressful. Got a new girl in the Bronx, she's a bit of a handful, but she kinda became like a little sister to me." she said.
Then she drew in a deep breath "So...how ARE things for you here in Good ole Queens lately? Everything been good for you?" she asked him as she moved closer.

Her ignoring of his question about her sister told him that her sister had either not been located or been forgotten and Luke gathered it was a little of both. And stressful was it? Luke imagined he could introduce her to bucket loads of stress she might have never envisioned if he had the caring to do so, which he didn't; to much time and energy wasted on a meaningless child. "Things are going good as can be expected," Luke said, quirking a smile at her and neither moving towards or away from her as she inched closer. "I'm managing to keep myself busy, as you might imagine." The smile he shot her was a touch wicked as he finished the last of the apple and tossed the core into the water, watching as it bobbed away from the dock on it's own private journey now.
"Been staying out of fights, lassie?" He asked, noting that the bruises that had colored her face before had faded and she seemed a bit more cheerful than the last time they met. Ah the shifting winds of youthful moods was every changing, every evolving and of no interest to Luke - he didn't care if she was scraping the bottom of the barrel. Though he could mark the intent in her lithe, young body, same as it was before and just as laughable now, perhaps moreso considering that without bruises marring her features she now looked younger than ever.
