She couldn't stop the giggles that began to fall from her lips as he started talking about the snow being cold and going down the back of your shirt. "You don't want to ever get into a snowball fight with me then," She said seriously when her giggles subsided. She turned her head to study him before continuing. "I play dirty," She smirked as she said it. Because she really did play dirty, hiding and then jumping out and dumping snow down the collars of shirt. Or slamming people in the head with snowballs. She had a deadly aim when it came to snowballs, thanks to her father and her years of growing up with two brothers.
When he started telling her about snowmen, she looked back out over the park and laid her head gently on his shoulder. She never really thought about proper boundaries for friends when she was around Alex. He was never the type to read into things so she never had to think twice about sending out the wrong vibe. She laughed quietly at his joke about the snowmen and had a peaceful smile on her face. "Sounds nice, though." She had built quite a few snowmen over the years, but figured that would be another thing she wouldn't get around to doing this year since there really was no point.

"Alright then," he said as he stood. "No Snowball fights." he turned and offered her a hand. "C'mon, I haven't built a snow man in at least a year, and I am not gonna make this year be the one I miss," he said.
Whether she followed him right away or not he went and dashed out into the clear snow that was laying so perfectly on the ground and kicked it up around him into a flying mess of wet cold white stuff. After all, wouldn't do to have solid snow to try to roll a snowman body in. He started by kneeling down and gathering up a big ball of snow before he began to roll it around the field. "Wanna get started on the head?" he called to her. he figured they could make the middle part of the body together. He was an expert snowman builder, and you could tell just by looking at him, he was having a great time.

She laughed when he took off towards the snow to start building a snowman. She couldn't believe it, it was like he'd read her mind again. She wouldn't have been able to bring herself to build one on her own or ask one of the lodgers to, but with Alex he just assumed she'd want to. And she did, she really did. She quickly followed him and sank down into the snow, not caring that the front of her skirt was soaking through as she began to make the head. "On it," She yelled back with a smile.

Avalanche hadn't read her mind... he hadn't assumed she wanted to build a snowman, he wasn't taking anything out of context. It was the way she was talking about the snow that made him figure out that they had to do something with it. She was the one offering all the options... he picked the one he liked best. Okay, so he had brought up the snow man, so what? He didn't see her complaining, and all the better. It was good clean, wet, fun.
As he rolled the bottom part of the snowman as large as he could he eventually had to come to a stop near the side walk. "I've run out of ground... and I don't think I can push this thing anymore. It was rather huge, coming up between his knees and hips. "How's the head comin' along? You ready to make the middle yet?" he asked as he bounced his way through the snow over her, trying his hardest not to get it in his shoes because that was the worst. Every where else wasn't near as bad as the shoes.

She held up the completed head and stood, walking over towards Avalanche. "Ready for the middle," She said as she set the head down next to the bottom part of the snowman. She was having more fun then she'd had in a long time and she couldn't keep herself from giggling like a little kid as they continued to build the snowman. "You know, I wasn't sure I'd make one of these this year."
Although she was talking about Perry not being around, her voice held none of the usual sadness it did when she thought or spoke about him. She was starting to be able to enjoy thinking of him without getting sad because he wasn't there anymore. It made her feel normal again, which was always a good thing to feel in her position.

"Wull now see!" he said with his same grin all over his face, "proved you wrong didn't I?" he said. "Alright," he leaned down and started gathering some snow with her help and then shoving it across the open field. "So much for the clean pretty field huh?" he said laughing.
He wondered what people walking by would think. They would probably imagine that the snowman was built by children. People who saw them probably imagined they were a couple, or siblings or something. The later was probably more accurate. Lexi was probably more of his sister than anything, and she was a great person to claim as a sister. That was the way avalanche thought of the newsies as a big family. Some people were his cousins... some very distant cousins, some as close as his siblings, and in rare cases even his own kids in a way. Of course, when kids had no families, what was wrong with creating the illusion of one.
"So how we gonna make the eyes and stuff?" he asked her as they rolled the middle down towards the lower, larger part of the snow man.

She laughed and nodded her head, "That you did." She happily helped him collect snow for the middle part of the body. She felt a small twinge deep in her stomach but she refused to let herself become sad right now. She was having a good time for the first time in awhile. Lexi had always enjoyed Alex's company and she assumed he felt the same. When he asked what they should use for the eyes, she glanced around and then let out a sound signaling triumph. She wondered over towards the edge of the gazebo and gathered up several pebbles. That way they could be used for the eyes and the mouth. Then she turned and walked back over towards Avalanche, holding them out. "These should work, right?"

"Perfectly!" he said rather excited. "Alright, wanna help me lift the middle onto the lower half, and then we'll finish him up," he said.
The two worked together and got the middle Ball onto the lower one. The balls of the snowman were not perfect by any means, but they functioned, and it was kind of cute in a way. "Alright... you get started on the head, I'll be right back," he said. He ran away and dashed towards a tree whose limbs were heavy with snow, and could easily be broken off. He pulled off a couple of dead sticks from the tree before coming back. He was having a lot of fun. Truth be told this wasn't something he would have done unless someone was there to do it with him, so he was very glad that he'd found Lexi that day. It was so much fun! And he'd be really worn out by the time he would get home that night, but that was fine. Nothing wrong with solid sleep.

Lexi laughed when Avalanche ran off and lifted up the head she'd made to set it on top. Then she used the pebbles to make eyes and a mouth before leaning back to study their handiwork. She was a little worn out so she couldn't even imagine how tired he must be but he seemed to be enjoying their time in the snow as much as she was. When she heard him walking back over she looked over her shoulder, "What'd you run off for?"

He had large sticks, one in each hand. "ARMS!" He shouted as he ran towards the snowman and one at a time plunged the sticks into the sides of the snowman to give him arms so that he looked like he was happy to be standing there.
Once the arms were in their places he stepped back and put his arm around her. "What do we think?" he asked her as he looked at it from a few steps back. He wished that he had the funds for a camera at that moment, and the knowledge to develop film, because he would have loved a picture of the smiling snowman with arms up in the air that they had created together. It was definitely a great day, and one to remember for a long time.

Lexi giggled at his shout and smiled brightly when he came running over with the sticks. She stepped back to study the finished product when he jammed the sticks in. She clapped her hands giddily and bounced on the heals of her feet. "It's amazing, I love it!"
She turned and threw her arms around Alex for a brief moment before pulling away and turning back to the snowman. She had to blink back a few tears. "Thank you for suggesting this," She said quietly, a content smile still firmly in place.

Avalanche quickly hugged her back while he had the chance before she pulled away again. He couldn't help but smile at her energy. He didn't realize how much this would bring her to life. "Hey you're welcome, beautiful," he said shrugging. It wasn't a big thing, he called all the girls beautiful (except Prince). "I'm glad you had a good time," he said with a smile and a nod.
He stretched his hands above his head and relaxed them down again. "So what are your plans for the rest of this beautifully cold day?" he asked as he sort of looked around the park. He definitely didn't wanna have a snow ball fight, not after what she said. If he could find something he'd suggest sledding, but he wasn't sure how well that would go either. Besides, they'd need a sled. He'd wait to hear what she had to say.

She shrugged her shoulders at his question, "I don't really have any plans. My shift is over so my only plans included going back to the lodging house." She turned her head and offered him a wide smile. "What about you? Any special plans for the day?"
Although Lexi would love to spend the rest of the day with her friend, she didn't want to keep him if he had something to do. She never really had many plans these days when she wasn't working or helping out at the lodging house. Dodger had been busy and she wasn't the type of girl to bother her boyfriend when he was otherwise preoccupied. She knew he'd find her eventually.

He couldn't help but smile back at her smile. It was too endearing. "No," he said shaking his head, "no plans until I go home for the night," he said. "I was just thinking... it's getting on in time and such and... don't normal people.... oh I dunno, eat around this point in the day?" he asked with a smirk.
"Lemme buy ya dinner?" he asked. "An we can go anywhere ya want in either the Bronx or Manhattan," he said. After all, if he got to Manhattan, he'd just keep walking until he got to Brooklyn, but he figured she'd pick somewhere in the Bronx. He loved spending time with her, he couldn't help himself. When he's with a good friend, he always has a good time.

Lexi couldn't help but laugh, "Yes, I do believe that's what normal people do." She nodded her head to his suggestion, "That sounds lovely, Alex." It had been awhile since she'd actually gone somewhere to eat. She usually just picked something up at a vendor or made something at the lodging house. But she wasn't going to turn down an offer for free food, she didn't know many kids who would.
"You pick since you're paying," She said with a smile. She wasn't particular to any restaurant. She was sure anywhere he wanted to go would have something that was appealing to her.
