NEW DAY [/b][/size] River took a seat on the bench and ran his fingers through his hair as he leaned back. A lot had been going on lately and he just needed a bit of time to let it all sink in. He was pretty honored Dodger thought he was responsible enough to take over for him as leader of the Bronx, but it was a lot of responsibility. It was nothing River couldn't handle, but with everything that was going on with Miranda it couldn't have happened at a worse time. He'd seen the note she'd left for him at the lodging house and although his stomach had clenched when he'd seen it he couldn't help but laugh when he'd read what she'd written. He didn't mind seeing Conlon on edge and annoyed by the fact that he was now the Bronx leader or would be in a short amount of time. River pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it before taking a hit. He tucked his free hand into his pocket and glanced around at the others. He knew he was going to have to talk to Miranda soon. He'd let this drag out too long, but thinking about still made him a bit sick so he thought he'd wait for everything to die down.

Anya looked over at the boy that had set down next to her. She had come all the way out to the Bronx to come to this park. She had heard it was pretty nice. She watched him light his cigarette and licked her lips. " umm you got a light? " She had been rolling her cigarette between her fingers for a while because she hadn't been able to find anyone with a light to spare.
Her heart was beating a million miles a minute, it wasn't that she was scared of him per say she was just scared of talking period. She had always had this fear that people would look down on her or make fun of her for some reason.

River hadn't even noticed the girl when he'd sat down. There was too much on his mind for him to really take notice of someone he didn't even know. When she asked him a question, he snapped his attention towards her and nodded slightly. He pulled a matchbox from within his pocket and held it out to her as he took a drag of his cigarette. She wasn't a Bronx newsie, he knew that for sure. He had made it a habit of knowing who was coming and going since they'd had kids go missing.
He offered her a small smile, "Hasn't anyone told you that pretty girls shouldn't smoke?" He couldn't help but flirt with the girl in a friendly manner. She was quite the looker. River leaned back on the bench once more and ran his hand through his hair. "You don't live in the Bronx do you?" He could judge by her black fingers that she was definitely a newsie and if she wasn't one of his it was easy enough to deduce that she lived in another borough.

Anya took the matchbox from him and lit the cigarette before she handed it back to him and smirked " didn't anyone tell you not to tell a girl what to do? " She knew he wasn't being serious but she couldn't help it. She looked down at her feet and sighed when he asked her where she was from and she looked up at him after she took a hit off the cigarette
" No I am livin in Queen's " she really couldn't say she was from Queens considering she really wasn't. It was just where she happened to be when she finally got tired of movin from place to place.
She looked down at her hands and groaned inwardly when she realized they were black from the ink and wiped them against her pants. " So what is a good lookin boy like yourself doing in a silly old park? "

"Nope," River responded as he offered her a cheeky grin and took back his matches. "Can't say I've ever heard that before. Though respect your elders was something I heard often. You don't look like you'd be an elder though," He responded with a wink as he lifted his cigarette to his lips to take a drag from it. "Queens is a nice borough," He said absently. His mind inevitably wandered back towards the leadership changes. He knew Styx was taking over for Prince and although he didn't know him personally he was sure Prince had picked him for a reason.
"It's nice to find a quiet place in a loud city every once in a while," He replied with a smile. "And what is a pretty girl like you doing in a silly old park?" He asked, tossing her words back at her but with a friendly smile the entire time. She seemed a bit on edge and he had always liked putting people at ease.

Anya rolled her eyes at his comment about elders and laughed " nice come back ". She continued to try to get the ink off her hands but she wasn't have any luck. She looked down at the cigarette and licked her lips when he asked her what she was doing in the park and shrugged
" Like you said its nice to get away from all the noise for a while " she kicked at a rock that was beneath her feet and looked over at him " It reminds me of home ". She took a drag and blew out the smoke before she said anything " all these people and noises can drive a person crazy ".
She was on edge but it was because of him. She hadn't really talked to anyone except for prince. She was waiting for him to jump up and leave the moment she said the wrong thing. She didn't really trust people farther than she could throw them.

(New day - Reserved for Soothsayer)
Sweetheart Snow curtsied to the man buying her last papers and growled as he left. She was getting really irritated with everyone thinking that she's ten and not fourteen. The only good thing that came out of that is she sells her papers pretty fast. It was about two o'clock and she had nothing else to do, so she sat down on one of the near by benches with a frown still on her face. She couldn't believe that people mistaked her for being four years younger than she really is just because she was small for her age.
"The upper class New Yorkers are idiots." she muttered to herself. She took out one of the books she borrowed from the bookstore nearby. It was a complete collection of Edgar Allen Po, one of her favorite authors. She started reading her favorite story when a shadow fell upon her.

Soothsayer walked through Pelham Bay Park, smoking a cigarette as he checked out the females who walked by him. Of course he did it surreptitiously so they wouldn't notice he was checking to see just how much was padded and how much wasn't. He gave a friendly grin to an especially pretty woman before he approached a bench where a girl seemed to be mumbling to herself. He smirked when he realized what she said and took a seat.
"You got that right, kid." He grinned and continued to smoke his cigarette. He could tell she was a newsie because of the black staining her fingers. He still sold occasionally but for the most part he lifted a few wallets here and there to make ends meat and gambled when he had left over money. He always believed the luck of the Irish was on his side because most of the time he won.

Sweetheart looked next to her and saw a really handsome blonde boy a few years older than her and he was smoking a cigarette. She frowned at what he called her.
"I am not a kid, thank you." she growled out, still a bit steamed from what happened earlier. She immediately felt bad. "Sorry about that, sir. I didn't mean to do that." she apologized.
She then smiled at the boy. "What's your name, sir?" she asked, her Mdwestern accent very apparent as she spoke.

Sooth merely raised an eyebrow at the attitude he was given and shrugged it off. He was used to street kids getting riled up over nothing. He was surprised by her turnabout though and quick apology. "If you're gonna get mad over something, kid, then you might as well stick by it instead of apologizing a second later. Doesn't really leave the impression that you are anything other then a temperamental kid." He smirked and continued to smoke his cigarette, enjoying riling the girl up.
"Me? I'm Soothsayer and you are?" He glanced her way again as he asked the question. Judging by the way she'd reacted to her own outburst it was probably some cute nickname one of her fellow newsies had given her.

Sweetheart just rolled her eyes at what the boy said. "I don't like lashing out on strangers. I just hate being thought of as a ten year old girl when I'm actually fourteen." she explained without looking up from her book.
Then, she looked up at the boy when he asked her what her name was. "I'm Sweetheart Snow. How did you get the name Soothsayer?" Sweetheart asked with a smile.

Soothsayer laughed at her response and shook his head, "Better get used to it. You look young but that ain't a bad thing. Most women would love to look youthful." He grinned and flicked his cigarette away when he was finished with it.
Of course her name was sweetheart, he'd definitely guessed correctly when it came to that. "Oh now that's a story for another time, lass. How'd you get your name?"

Sweetheart rolled her eyes at Soothsayer when he said that most women wanted to look younger. "I'd rather look my age." she mumbled.
"My friend Jewel says that I am a huge sweetheart, so that's how I got my name." she answered. "You're not from the Bronx, are you?" Sweetheart asked. She was starting to get annoyed with her accent which was getting more obvious with every word she said. She wasn't irritated enough for it to show on her face.

Sooth merely shrugged and ran a hand through his hair, "I'm sure you'll grow into it eventually." He refrained from adding kid to the end of the sentence again because he didn't feel like getting a smack in the face from a midget.
"Ah, I see...." He trailed off as she explained how she got her name and asked whether or not he was from the Bronx. "Nah, Queens is my borough." For now at least. He was getting a bit restless but he figured that was more due to the fact that he hadn't seen Smarty in awhile then to the fact that he was pretty settled where he lived.
