<New Day - Open>
Daisy pulled her coat a little more tightly around her as an icy breeze cut through the air and tried to make it's way underneath of the fabric to her skin. The sun was out and at times warm enough to give the false hope that spring may be just around the corner, but the air was a none to friendly reminder that Mother Nature may have a bit more in store before the winter truly passed on for the year. Even still, Daisy was taking advantage of the cheerful invitation of the sun to do some shopping, wages and tips from McGinty's sitting heavy in her pocket as she perused the array of vegetables.
She'd been able to get a small bit of meat from the butcher and was hoping that with what was provided here she might be able to put together a robust stew. The aroma would be warm and inviting when the bitter night air started to creep in and it would go a long way - she would probably give the extra to Jerry to take home to his brother. Her fingers brushed against a carrot and she considered it for a moment before selecting two and setting them in her basket, humming as she moved on to examine the potatoes, a smile drifted across her features, feeling right at home.

Scar rubbed his hands together as he approached the vegetable stand. He wasn't much of a cook but he knew the basics enough to feed himself and he needed a few things. As he got closer he saw a familiar figure hovering over the potatoes and smirk crossed his lips. It'd been awhile since he'd seen that particular girl. Walking up behind her quietly, he shoved his hand into his pocket to extract a cigarette before speaking. "Oy, you gonna stand over the potatoes all day, lass?"
His smirk had turned into a rare genuine smile as he waited for her to turn around and see it was him. Daisy was one of the few (possibly only) women in the world who he genuinely liked and not in a sexual way. His views on women had always been skewed but he looked at her as a diamond surrounded by lumps of coal. "What brings you out shopping today?"

"Oh!" Daisy jumped a little at the sound of a voice, so lost in her thoughts as she'd hovered on the potatoes she hadn't even known someone was standing there. "I'm sorry I-" She turned to apologize and it was only then that she realized it was Scar, the man who had been practically a ghost around Brooklyn as of late. Daisy knew most people feared him, even her friend Shannon who was a fellow barmaid at McGinty's had given her a stern warning when she'd seen Daisy talking to Scar inside the pub one day. But all the warnings were for naught, because Daisy saw a softer side to the rough man and she appreciated that he seemed to let his guard down just the smallest bit with her.
"Aidan, it's so lovely to see you!" Daisy said, looking down at the potato in her hand and laughing at the fact that she'd probably been mulling over the vegetable for the better part of five minutes. "It would seem as though this potato is a rather momentous decision when in reality it's only for a stew I was thinking about cooking up tonight." Tucking the potato into her basket with the carrots and refocused her attention on Scar, smile returning to her features. "I haven't seen you around lately, I hope everything is alright."

Scar chuckled darkly at her predicament over the potato and couldn't help but continue to smile at her. Daisy struck him as so incredibly innocent and considering where she lived it was a rare find. Her genuine attitude towards him had brought out a side he didn't show anyone, -ever-. He did, after all, have a reputation to uphold. Daisy was different though. He'd tried his normal tricks on her when he'd first met her and she'd politely turned him down while still remaining friendly and unaffected by his lewd attitude.
"Nice to see you too, lass." It truly was nice to see her because he tended to feel more human when he was around her. Which wasn't something he could say for a single other person who presided in this city. "Ah, a stew? And who are you cooking this stew for? Couldn't be just for yourself," He said with a smirk. He may enjoy his time around her and be nicer towards her but he still loved to make her a little flustered and see how long it took before he could make her blush.
He gave her a small shrug when she said she hoped everything was alright. "As alright as things can be, Daisy." He'd been busy with work and he'd been having some extracurricular playtime with Celine since she'd gotten back. "And how are things with you? Break any hearts lately?"

"Oh well I thought Jerry might want some stew this evening, it's still rather cold out and so it's really the perfect time with the vegetables being so fresh," Daisy felt her cheeks color a little, remembering how Scar had been there the night she had met Jerry, had seemed to take great amusement in watching her heart flutter right out onto the bar in front of them. "And since this will likely make more than enough I'll send some home with him for his brother and I suppose if there is any left I'll take it by one of the lodging houses and see if Dodger might put it to good use or..." Daisy drifted as she realized she was damn near babbling and all she could do was shake her head a little at her own silliness.
"I don't suppose I've thought it all through entirely, but I'm certain I'll have enough if you would like some," She offered, because there was a part of her that worried after him, though she imagined he would find the whole idea preposterous if he knew. She smiled at him then, pushing a few strands of hair out of her eyes as she gazed back over the vegetables before laughing a little at his question over breaking any hearts. "I think breaking hearts is your department, not mine Aidan. But if that's your roundabout way to ask after Jerry, we are doing fine."
She wanted to ask again how he was, but knew she'd never really get an honest answer and really she supposed it was enough he stopped to talk to her at all. And though it might be weeks or months between sightings he always had a warm smile and a kind word - well a kind word as far as Scar was concerned.

He listened quietly as she chattered on about who she was making the stew for. He couldn't help but smirk when she talked about that boy, Jerry, who he vaguely remembered meeting at McGinty's once. He had known Daisy had a crush on him just from the brief exchange between the two he had witnessed. It had been incredibly entertaining to see the kid turn various shades of red while he had been talking to Daisy. "I should be fine, thanks though lass."
He started picking up a few vegetables of his own. He was planning on making himself dinner that night and then getting some much needed sleep. Kelly had sent him out of town to retrieve something that had gone missing. Said something had put up quite a fight when he'd been bringing it back, so he was pretty exhausted, but hunger had won out when he'd been deciding whether or not to head back to his apartment.
A small chuckle escaped his lips when she said he was the one who broke hearts. He didn't think that was in anyway true because if a woman thought she was going to get more then a tumble in the sack with him that wasn't his fault. He felt it was pretty obvious that he was not the type of man to enter into a relationship with pretty much anyone. "Good, wouldn't want to have to break the kids hands," He said with a smirk. "And what have you been up to recently?" He asked as he continued to pick through the vegetables.

"Anytime," Daisy mused out loud and half to herself. She would be more than happy to cook him a meal if he had needed it, as she had for any number of her friends on occasion, but he seemed perfectly at home as he moved to pick over the vegetables himself. It was an almost odd sight and Daisy never would have guessed him as being able to cook, but one thing she had learned in her life is that people could constantly and were nearly always surprising her.
A smile briefly traced across her face as he made mention of not needing to break Jerry's hands and for some reason the sentiment, violent and outlandish though it might have been, touched her. Not that she ever thought there would be a reason for Scar to break Jerry's anything, he was a good and solid man and Daisy loved him, but the fact that Scar would care enough to consider it was his way of showing he cared - Daisy understood that.
"Nothing more than the usual really," Daisy explained, reaching into the pocket in her skirt and pulling out the pouch that held her money to search for the amount to give the vendor. "I've picked up a few more hours at the pub, and Jerry and I like to spend time in the library when we get a chance. It's been a long winter though, I'm ready for spring."

He sent a cheeky grin her way when she said she'd cook for him anytime. "Well the moment you come to your senses, lass, and leave that boy behind I'll let you cook for me whenever you want." He gave her a wink before turning back finish picking the vegetables he would need. Once he did, he paid the vendor and pulled a small wool bag from his pocket to stuff his food in there.
He wrinkled his nose a bit when she said her and Jerry went to the library. Who took a dame to the library? "Ah, it may be winter but that's the best time of year for laying out in front of the hearth." Preferably naked and on a blanket, but he kept that thought to himself. "It'll be spring soon enough," he said quietly. Scar also couldn't wait for this winter weather to fade. His hours at the docks had been cut back because of the water practically freezing. Though at this moment he actually appreciated that fact. "So it seems like you and the lad are pretty serious..." He wondered if the boy was gonna ask Daisy to marry him. He nearly chortled at the thought but held it back.

"Then perhaps it is a good thing you seem to know your way around a kitchen," Daisy commented, smiling as the slightest blush tinged her cheeks and laughter in her words. "As it appears I've gone mad with no hope of recovering." There was truth enough in the statement, if having a loss of senses was what it meant to be in love with Jerry, and she was certain that she never wanted to recover. "Something tells me that you might manage alright though," Daisy said, watching as he slipped his vegetables into the wool bag. "You always do."
"Fairly serious, yes," Daisy concurred, with a nod of her head and she couldn't help but feel her cheeks getting a little redder as she thought about Jerry and their relationship - it seemed a near constant state these days when she considered the tall, handsome man. "He invited me to go home with him and his brother for Christmas. They live in this big home in the country, it snowed while we were there and it looked like those Christmas cards you see in the store windows," Daisy said, looking over at Scar and wondering what he made of the whole thing, she couldn't imagine that Christmas cards and family scenes by the fire were really of interest to her rogue friend. "I suppose you might find it all a little foolish...but we're happy."

Scar laughed and shook his head at her comments. Maybe that was why he found himself drawn to Daisy and not just to get her into bed. He'd stopped really trying that long ago when he realized it was a fruitless effort. But she drew you in with her polite smiles and ways and then before you realized it she was coming at you with her witty remarks. It made her quite an interesting person to be around. He couldn't really define the relationship he had with her but he knew he felt more protective of her then he had any other woman in his life. "That's right, lass, I'm very good at managing and taking care of myself."
He'd been doing it for so long it was like second nature to him. He knew most men didn't know how to cook but he didn't like venturing out on a nightly basis just to get a meal. So he'd taught himself the basics and after many haphazard meals he'd caught on and could whip a few things up fairly easily. He raised an eyebrow at her description of her boys his his brothers home and gave her an easy smile before throwing his arm over her shoulders casually. "Not at all, lass. Nice to know you're happy and he's treating you right."

"I've no doubt of that," Daisy said as Scar claimed to be able to take care of himself. Though she wasn't always sure that he went about it in the best ways, she knew he could more than manage out on the streets. As long as he still occasionally wandered into McGinty's and let her know that he was still alive and well, she supposed there wasn't much more that she could ask for than that. Daisy knew it didn't make much sense to most, but she was of the ardent belief that there was a good man inside of Scar somewhere, and despite the protestations of friends and the man himself when she made mention of the notion, it didn't deter her a bit.
"Oh Aidan, he treats me so very well," Daisy began as he slung his arm across her shoulders and she looked up at him. "I'm not sure that I could ask for much more than Jerry Flynn," She slipped an arm around his waist and then because it was probably the most affection he might accept from her, gave him a little squeeze. Well aware that they might be crossing Scar's threshold for the discussion of her romance and all things light and happy, Daisy changed topics. "Where were you headed after this?"

He smirked when she wrapped her arm around his waist. Most people wouldn't dare to try to touch him and although he never pretended to be a good man he sort of liked the fact that Daisy thought he might be somewhat of one deep down. He wasn't, he knew that. Most days he was barely hanging onto his sanity, but she made him feel a little more human when she was around.
Scar gave her a small shrug when she asked where he was heading. "Just home, gonna eat and sleep. Just got back into the city." He didn't offer any other information on where he'd been and he didn't think even Daisy would ask. Most people knew better then to question him, but it wasn't exactly like he was going to stop those questions with his fists when it came to Daisy. He'd just avoid any questions if she did ask. "What about you? Off to the lads place?"

He didn't react much to the sidearm hug, but Daisy hadn't anticipated that he would, she simply wanted him to know that she was there. It seemed a foolish idea when she said it out loud, that perhaps her simple belief in him might matter, but she liked to think that it did, even if it was only a little. He answered her question in his typically vague way and though Daisy had a thought to attempt to pry, practicality told her it wasn't going to get her anywhere, so she let it lie.
"I'll go home first and start on the stew," Daisy explained when he asked, leaving her arm around his waist and hitching the basket a little higher on her free arm. "And Jerry's brother has a bit of taste for pie and I have some leftover apples so..." She shrugged again, she hadn't really thought about her course of action for the afternoon, there was a part of her that simply wanted to stay out and enjoy the sun for as long as it might linger. "I don't have to be at work until tomorrow afternoon, so I hadn't really planned out much of my day beyond this bit of shopping."

Scar nodded, "Sounds like a nice night you have planned." He had to get up early for work tomorrow and he wasn't looking forward to it. Mostly because he actually didn't mind doing grunt work for Kelly but doing grunt work at the dock was something he hated and that's where he had to be. But he had to keep the job and keep the pigs off his back. "Can't believe you make his brother pie," He said with a chuckle.
"You're too much of a doll, you know that?" He asked with a grin. He didn't know many women who would cook for a man let alone his brother. Even then he was careful with what he ate because the females he did know how cooked had a tendency to poison the people they were cooking for. Not unintentionally either. Which is another reason he learned the basics of cooking for himself. If he was going to die, he certainly wasn't going to go out because some broad slipped something in his food.
