Flip nodded, he kind of wished for a second that he had someone to care about like that. He changed his mind.
"What about you, mate? How's things been going with you?"
"Boring, This pretty much, sooooo...." Flip grinned, "You miss being single? 'Mate?'" He teased.

"You miss being single? 'Mate?'"
Byron chuckled, "What person doesn't sometimes miss the freedom of being single? But, I'm happy and I love Pallet." He took another bite of his bagel.

"You and all the other lucky ones" Flip smiled weakly, "Sometimes I kinda wish I have a seriously relation ship..." He shrugged.
"But other times being single gives you alota good advantages" He laughed, gesturing to the waitress.

Byron looked over to where the waitress was talking to a table of people. She looked up at the time Flip gestured to her and blushed at the knowledge that he was talking about her. Byron chuckled and turned back towards Flip. "Yeah... What is that, like the twentieth address you've collected today, mate?" Byron popped the last piece of bagel in his mouth.

Flip shook his head, "Wrong again my friend" He teased, "Only 19, I had an off day" He laughed, then he got up, flipped his chair around and put it in it's rightful spot. Flip smiled at byron as he walked out the door shoving the rest of the bagel in his mouth.
"See'ya later then, mate"

Byron chuckled, "See ya later." He stood up, pushed his chair in, and brushed the crumbs off his pants. Then, he walked out the door to head to the Lodging House.

~New~
Eli entered the bakery, carrying his shoe shine box under his arm. He avoided people coming in and out to tuck his box under a small table. Using the box as a stepping stool, he climbed onto the seat and sat comfortably. He had just finished school and was about to go out into New York and shine shoes, but first, he was hungry. Pulling out his haversack, he rifled through it and pulled out the meal his mother had packed him.
He knew he should eat it in school, but he didn't. A lot of kids in school didn't have food to eat at lunch, and if he pulled it out, he would be forced to share, so he didn't eat at all at school. Eli studied the hard candy he had, he wondered what flavor it was... Apple? Strawberry? Or perhaps grape? He hoped it wasn't grape, he didn't like grape.
Eli looked around, some people were staring at him openly. He almost choked on the bite of bread he had taken. Maybe he wasn't allowed to be in this resturant? It happened to him and his mother once, they hadn't been allowed in that one really nice hotel; even though his mother worked there, cleaning rooms. That was one of Eli's worst fears, not being allowed to go to a place like all the other kids... He didn't want to be left out.

Shamrock walked into Stan's weaving his way through the crowd trying to find a place to sit. Catching sight of a younger boy sitting by himself, he walked over. "Mind if Oi join ya?" he Smiled and asked in his Irish accent.

Eli looked at the boy. "Naw, I don't mind." He nodded towards an open chair. "If you don't mind that is..." Eli added shyly. He gently pushed a piece of his hard candy over to the boy. "You can have it, if you want. I don't really like that flavor..." Eli murmured, studying his piece of bread.

Shamrock sat down in the empty chair and smiled at the young boy, "Thanks. I haven't had candy in a while." He popped the candy into his mouth, and savored the delicious flavor. "So, you from around here?" he asked subtly looking the boy over. He didn't remember seeing the boy around but maybe he was wrong. I'm sure I would remember seeing this boy though, he thought to himself.

Eli smiled back shyly. "Thanks. I haven't had candy in a while." He popped the candy into his mouth, and savored the delicious flavor. "So, you from around here?" he asked subtly looking the boy over.
"You're welcome." Eli said. "I'm from Harlem, but I came here so I could eat my lunch before I set out to shine shoes."
Eli looked at the boy, he was older. "I-I'm Eli Freeman and I'm eight. Are you from around here?" Eli didn't know many people, he generally stuck to Harlem and wasn't allowed out much otherwise by his mother.

"I-I'm Eli Freeman and I'm eight. Are you from around here?"
Shamrock nodded finishing up the last bit of candy, then swallowed it before replying to Eli. "I'm Shamrock. I'm thirteen." He extended his hand towards the boy and they shook. "Oi live at the Lodging House here in the Bronx with me sister, Pallet and her friend, Byron. Oi'm a newsie."
Shamrock waved a waitress over and ordered a bagel for himself. "Oi wasn't born here though. Me family is originally from Ireland. Pallet, Byron, and Me came here after me da was killed. It's just us now." The waitress brought him his bagel and he paid her, before taking a bite out of it. "What about you?" he asked, his mouth full of food. "Is your family originally from New York City?"

"Thirteen? That's amazing..." Eli said with awe. He had no teenage siblings, he had been too small to remember when his older siblings were teens. "You live in the Lodging House? Is it nice there? I don't think I could live my sisters more then I do..." Eli shook his head.
Eli said 'no thank you' to the waitress, he had food already.
"I'm sorry about your dad. I don't know what that's like...losing a family member. But my brother lives in Chicago and I miss him... But that's not the same is it?" Eli asked nervously. "Nah, we're from Georgia originally. My uncle and his kids still live down there, though my cousin Goldie's talking of coming up north. She wants to go to college..." Eli shook his head, like this was a crazy idea.

"You live in the Lodging House? Is it nice there? I don't think I could live my sisters more then I do..."
Shamrock bit off a huge chunk of bagel. "Yeah. It's nice. It's like sharing a house with one really big family." he replied through a mouthful of bagel. He swallowed, and took a sip of his water.
"Nah, we're from Georgia originally. My uncle and his kids still live down there, though my cousin Goldie's talking of coming up north. She wants to go to college..."
Shamrock leaned back in his chair and raised an eyebrow, "College, huh? Oi don't think Oi've heard of a girl going to college before..."

"Yeah. It's nice. It's like sharing a house with one really big family."
Eli thought about that. "My family's pretty big, seven people living in a tiny apartment. It must be nice to have your own bed huh?" Eli asked eagerly, eating his apple quickly.
"College, huh? Oi don't think Oi've heard of a girl going to college before..."
"Neither have I, but Goldie keeps talking about this one lady named um... Cromwell who went to college in Boston and now she won't shut up about it. Goldie's kind of strange. I told her that no college is gonna accept a girl, let alone a black girl, in the south, so she wants to come up here." Eli explained, his mouth slightly full of food. He shook his head. "Goldie's an odd one."
