The small bell above the door jingled as the bakery door was opened. Jim quickly stepped in, removing his wet hat and giving it a small shake to the floor. Just as he had left to go to the bakery it has started pouring, but refusing to go back and wait it out, he instead walked through Morris Park in the rain and ended up as he was-- soaked and cold.
There were few things at this point that could have improved his mood, but the warm sweet smell of the bakery was making a valiant effort. Weaving through a few cake tables he walked over to the glass counter, looking down at various loaves of bread. With the rain still falling in sheets outside, he figured he could afford to waste some time.

Tate was in the back, she laughed as she stepped back into the store proper and smiled folding her arms and leaning over the bread case, "It's raining pretty hard out there do you want a towel?" She was a nice person in general and the man might get sick of worse if his hair was still wet. She knew he'd go back out into the rain but it was Tate, she was always thinking of things like that.

He glanced up at her voice, stepping back slightly at her close proximity leaning over the case. "Nah, I'm alright." He looked back down into the case, moving away from her as he walked along the counter and eyed the delicious rolls and cakes.

She didn't move but she watched him, when he said no she shrugged and leaned against the counter. She had a soft smile on her face generally and this didn't seem to be any different. "Anything I can get you?" she lifted her eyes and watched him, oh he had a bubble. She tried to respect people's bubbles.

He kept his eyes on the rolls and shrugged. "Just buyin' bread, shouldn't be too hard.." Most people would smile after such a remark to assure others that they were really only joking and not trying to be rude. Sadly, Jim always failed to do so. He really wasn't trying to be a jerk, but he was just a bit coarse and always blunt.

She lifted both her brows at that one and folded her arms watching him curiously when he spoke, sure most did but she didn't think he was being overly rude he probably just didn't really like being bothered.
"It isn't always as simple as you might think, there are a lot of different kinds of bread, from all over the place no two are exactly alike.."

He laughed, though it sounded more like a small huff, and looked over at her. "Yeah, well, I'll eat 'em no matter wheah they're from." He gestured to a small wheat loaf behind the glass. "I'll take that one."

She smiled at that and moved over to the counter, grabbing the loaf of bread and some wax paper. "Really? I think this is rye bread, do you want to try it before you buy it?" She was always that way, try it, taste it-- she didn't press but she was generous as all get out but then again-- she'd been raised that way.

He eyed her a moment, slightly surprised by the offer, but just shrugged. "Nah, it's fine, I'll take it." Anything edible tasted good to Jim, and he couldn't imagine fresh bread going wrong.

She shrugged, Rye had a different taste and it wasn't always to everyone's liking. She wrapped the bread in wax paper and watched him curiously before she set it on the counter with a smile
"If you don't like it, just bring it back and I'll get you something you really want.." i was just her nature to be friendly and helpful.

He nodded, his thoughts instinctively running through how to take advantage of such an offer. He grabbed his bread and eyed her a moment, wondering whether her apparent goodness was just who she was or if it was the result of incredible naivety. Regardless where it came from, the idea of scarfing his bread and coming back for another free began to sound less and less appealing. "Ya know that aint very smart, lettin' people do that.."

"People are bound to take advantage of an offer like that," she said with a serious nod, leaning back a little towards the register. "Even if you do like it you'll come back and get another loaf." No she knew human nature, and she smiled at him brightly. She also just liked to make people happy.

He scoffed, a bit offended by her accusation, even if it was accurate. "I wouldn't have said it wasn't smart if I was gonna do that now would I?" Sure he had thought about doing just that, but he had decided against it. He had decided to do the right thing, and since it wasn't something that happened often it puffed his pride a bit and made him more annoyed at her presumption that he would do otherwise.

She smiled and held up her hands, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I give away free sweets and pastries all the time.." she laughed a little and brushed her hair behind her ear. "I am surprised at time Stan keeps me on at all... I just want you to go away satisfied. I don't want you to end up with something you won't like is all.. " She bit her lip, insert foot in mouth Tate. "Sorry I really didn't mean to offend you..."
