A warm fire and a few couches is all the girl's need to feel cozy here!

((NEW DAY: For Lexi))
It hadn't been that long since he had seen her, however, with promised warmer weather on the way, Avalanche didn't know when the next time he'd be able to come and see Lexi would be, so he made his way towards the Bronx. The ice all over the city was starting to melt, the vendors were bringing their goods out from under protective awnings and today was a lovely day to walk through New York as he so enjoyed doing. On his way through the Bronx he came across a flower cart. Some of the first flowers of Spring and even if the weather should lie and the snow come again, at least they'd be a reminder that Spring was coming! He bought a dozen daisies, and told the man to keep the change as he paid for them.
He hoped Dodger wouldn't be around. Not that he didn't like the man, but he knew that Dodger and Lexi were together, and he hoped that he'd made peace with that emotion. He didn't want to insult the London man, and didn't want to get Lexi in trouble either. But he just couldn't help himself, he had to come see her, and he had to make her smile. For some reason, he was just flat out determined to make this happen.
He hurried up the steps to the front door of the lodging house. He knocked on the front door, "shave and a hair cut," and opened it, "anyone home?!" he called inside. "Lexi around?" he called agin figuring that any girls who would hear him would fetch her for him. He hoped anyway.

It had been a rough few weeks for a lot of reasons. As much as she wanted people to believe she was over her brothers' death, she wasn't. She was just exceptionally good at pushing those feelings beneath the surface so she could be pleasant to others. It was technically her job to be welcome wagon. Then with the stress of the new girl entering their midst and stirring up more problems then she was worth, Lexi had even more added issues to deal with then was normal. And now Dodger had decided to pass the leadership of the Bronx onto River. Lexi trusted River and greatly admired him but she was used to working with Dodger so it was throwing her for a loop. She couldn't help but feel that he was somehow leaving her behind.
Lexi wandered around the house, dusting all of the furniture in the place. She was definitely the type of woman who cleaned to relieve stress. At least when she couldn't venture far from the lodging house and be by herself. She hadn't expected so many complaints to arise with Jewel's presence but they had. The girl had a habit of creating problems wherever she went and Lexi hadn't figured out a way to ease those problems yet.
She knew that other people wouldn't understand why she was trying to be so patient with the girl. But the fact of the matter was that Jewel reminded Lexi of herself when she was incredibly reckless and cared about nothing and no one. Lexi had grown from that experience though and she hoped Jewel would as well. It was best to keep your mouth closed and observe those around you before you ended up in a situation you couldn't rectify. She knew Jewel had ended up in more then a few, but Lexi felt that the girl was merely trying to find a place for herself in the city. Although Lexi didn't agree with her way of going about it she understood that sort of nervousness. She'd felt it when she'd first come here. Of course that didn't mean she'd gone and blabbed about her past to anyone who would listen but Jewel was still young, she would learn.
Lexi didn't need someone to search her out because she was in the sitting room and heard Alex's voice, clear as day, asking for her. She made her way towards the entrance hall and smiled in greeting. She let out a small sigh at the sight of flowers and stepped forward. "Alex...what brings you here?" She smiled widely as she approached him, "Are those for me?" She asked as she pointed towards the flowers in his hand before shooing away the girl who had opened the door.

As Lexi came into view he gave her a big smile. "Happy Spring!" he proclaimed to the entire lodging house including the girl who had answered the door and continued his grin. "And these?" he asked looking at the dozen daisies clenched in his hand. "Well yes and no," he said with a small shrug as he was playing mischievous. "I did buy them with you in mind... hope they dun make ya sneeze or nothin'. But I thought they might make the girls lodgin' house a little more comfortable and spring-like for you lovely ladies. So... yes," he said finally with a shrug.
He continued to stand in the door. His mother had taught him that it was rude to just walk in if he wasn't invited. Lexi looked tired again. She must have a lot going on recently. He wondered if he could be any help, and hoped that he could. He always loved seeing her smile, but if he could actually brighten her day and make her happier then that was all the better to him he believed.
"May I come in?" he asked her with a crooked smile. He casually leaned against the door frame and looked down at the girl who was nearly a foot shorter than himself. It was almost comical at the height difference, but all the same, he found her absolutely endearing and adorable. He looked down at the flowers still in his hand and offered them to her then. He couldn't help but feel like he was getting into Dodger's territory by bringing her flowers, but as he had mentioned they were for her, but they were for everyone else to admire and enjoy as well... though mostly they were for her. What was he doing? What as he thinking? Why had this seemed a good idea?

Lexi laughed and took the flowers before grabbing his arm and pulling him inside, shutting the door behind him. She lifted the flowers to her nose and took a deep breath to inhale their fragrance. A large smile played at her lips as she lowered the flowers and walked over to a closet to pull out a cheap looking vase and stick them inside. It was probably a good thing she'd taken to cleaning lately, otherwise she'd have no idea where the vase even was. "They're beautiful and everyone will love them," She said as she left the vase on the front desk and mentally reminded herself to get water for them later.
"Flowers have never made me sneeze," She stated as she walked back over to Avalanche. She didn't think anything of the gesture because Avalanche was always doing things like that for her. Once upon a time she might have thought differently, but since she was with Dodger thoughts like that never really crossed her mind. She wiped her hands on the gray apron she'd donned for cleaning.
"How have you been?" She asked with a small smile. The last times he'd seen him, they'd spent the day playing in the snow and it had been a memorable time. That was something she hadn't done in years and it had helped to relieve a lot of stress. "Did you hear about River?" The slight anxiety she was feeling over the situation was the cause of her cleaning spree, but she was sure no one would complain about the house being less dusty.

Avalanche couldn't stop from smiling as he watched her put the flowers into a vase and set them on the front desk. He was glad that she liked them. As he watched her rush around he leaned against the front desk listening to her. "I'm glad they don't make you sneeze. Hope they don't make the girls sneeze either," he added with a charming smile. "The place looks great," he added as he looked around. It looked so clean, it was obvious that she'd been working hard.
When asked about River he nodded his head deeply and positively. "That I have, and congratulations to the man..." he said. he looked at Lexi intently and could tell that she wasn't exactly fully pleased about it, but he thought he'd attempt to brighten her spirits. "But look at it this way, now Dodger should have more time to spend with you, not havin' to control all those boys all the time, huh?" he said with a bright and ever charming smile. "You two'll be a regular old couple in no time," he said with a small wink.
As he walked a little farther into the house he headed to the living room. "So... you heard about Styx then I assume?" He went to sit down in a chair but as he did so he felt it wobbling back and forth. He stopped for a second and shook it back and forth a few times. "Well this won't do..." he said as he wobbled the chair back and forth. "You ladies keep any tools here?" he asked wanting to take a look at seeing if he could get the chair level. The ever helpful Avalanche just couldn't leave well enough alone. He was already on his hands and knees examining the chair from underneath seeing if there was any good way to fix it so that it wouldn't wobble anymore.

Lexi couldn't help but laugh at his words and she shrugged her shoulders absently. "Well, if they happen to sneeze because of them, they'll just have to avoid them." She turned her head to send a smile his way. She wasn't going to throw them out if one of the other girls sneezed because of them. It had been such a long winter that the flowers in the house brightened her mood considerably. The last time it had been halfway decent out, she hadn't really enjoyed it and spring made her think of new beginnings.
"Thank you," Lexi said as she brushed her hair back. She had spent a good portion of her day cleaning so it was nice to know that it was not only appreciated but also noticeable. At his response to her question about whether or not he knew about River taking over the Bronx, Lexi couldn't help but avert her eyes a bit. She knew Dodger would probably have more time for her and she appreciated the fact, but she also knew he'd be busy finding a job and a place. She just felt that things were moving along very quickly. They had only begun dating shortly before Perry died and she had spent a large portion of her time since then mourning her brother. Now that she was finally beginning to feel more like herself, he was going to be leaving and beginning a new life. She was happy for him, it would just take her a bit of time to get used to the idea. Everything had happened rather quickly.
Lexi nodded her head and followed his movements with her eyes. "Yes, I heard about Styx." She smiled slightly and stood moving towards the closet where they kept the few tools they actually had. Once she gathered them into her arms she walked back over to Avalanche and held them out to him. She didn't honestly know what any of them were or they would be useful. She'd never been very good at fixing things. She couldn't help but chuckle quietly. "You don't have to do that, you know."

*New Day - Mainly for Jewel Kent, but anyone else can join*
*Time: 6:01 am*
Sweetheart walked down into the living area of the Bronx Newgirls Lodging House. She sat down in front of the warm fire and silently cried. She had a rough night's sleep, mainly because of the horrible nightmare. In the dream, Sweetheart's father had found her in the Bronx Newsgirls Lodging House and had killed every one of the Bronx Newsgirls, killing Jewel before he turned to look at his daughter. She was crying over everyone's deaths. Sweetheart could still hear her father's horrible and manic voice.
Don't worry, Brittani. You will be joining them soon. he had said before pointing a gun at Sweetheart and pulling the trigger. That was when Sweetheart woke up.
She hadn't woken up any of the other girls, and since she didn't want to wake up Jewel or Lexi, she just walked downstairs alone.
Sweetheart continued to cry silently. She wanted so badly to just forget about her past but it wasn't easy. Maybe if she had someone to help her keep her mind from wandering back into her old life. Unfortunately, Sweetheart hadn't found the right person to do that. Not even Jewel could help her with that. Sweetheart thought back to that cute boy she had seen while wandering the city. Jewel said his name was Mush. Maybe he could help Sweetheart and keep her from thinking about her life back in Missouri.
Sweetheart shook her head. There would be no way that Mush would want to help her.
What boy would want to help someone like me? Sweetheart thought sadly.
She really hoped that when she is introduced to Mush, that he would accept her, but unfortunately, it was unlikely. The girls here in the Bronx was one thing. Sweetheart hadn't even met any of the Bronx Newsboys, so she didn't know if they would accept her. And if the men in her own borough didn't accept her, why would someone from Manhattan?
"Please, God." Sweetheart prayed out loud. "Please let me have the same luck that I had with the Bronx Newsgirls."

Jewel had heard the sounds of someone leaving the bunkoom. She opened one eye, but couldn't tell who it was because the door had closed again before she could see. She slowly got down from her bunk, and tip-toed out the bunkroom door, and down the stairs. She quickly saw someone sitting by the fire.
Jewel smiled...even from the back, she could tell who it was. It was Sweetheart...she was about to approach her, when she heard something that nearly made her lose it. She heard Sweetheart crying again.
She walked up to Sweetheart, and cautiously sat next to her at the fire place. She put her arms around her, and pulled her close so that Sweetheart's head was on her shoulder.
"Shhhhh....It's okay, Sweetie Bird. It's alright...no one is going to hurt you." She whispered into the girl's ear.
Since the day she stepped into the house, Sweetheart had become Jewel's 'little sister', which Jewel found odd, because at one rate in her life, she was the little sister.
"What's the matter, Sweetie Bird? Tell me all about it." She whispered again.

Sweetheart was surprised when she felt someone hug her from behind. She looked up and noticed that it was Jewel. She allowed Jewel to hold her as Sweetheart cried.
When Jewel asked her about what was wrong, Sweetheart told her about her dream. How her father had come into the Lodging House and killed all of the Newsgirls, killing Jewel before facing Sweetheart - who was crying over Jewel's life-less body. What her father had said: "Don't worry, Brittani. You will be joining them soon."
She felt ashamed about telling Jewel. She turned away from Jewel so she wouldn't see the tears in Sweetheart's eyes. She felt so strange while she cried in front of someone. It was not normal for her.

Jewel sat there listening to Sweetheart as she explained her dream about her father killing all of the girls in the house...including her. She was horrified. She hugged Sweetheart closer.
"Ohhhh Sweetie Bird...my poor little sister. It's okay, your father can't hurt you here. HE probably has no idea where the hell you are...and that makes it pretty hard for him to find you." she said.
Jewel then cupped both sides of Sweetheart's face, and turned her to face her eyes. "By the way, Sweetheart? Where were you after your sellin' day was over? I asked around, and someone said they saw you high-tailin' it somewhere else. You ain't trying to abandon us already, are ya?" she asked.

Sweeheart smiled when Jewel said that her father wouldn't find her. Then, Jewel said something that surprised Sweetheart.
"I would never abandon the only friends I ever had!! And I was down by the riverbank. I like being near rivers. I don't know why, I just do. It sort of lets me clear my head. Next time that I am no where to be found, just look by the riverbank."

Jewel smiled when she heard that Sweetheart was by the riverbank.
"That's good to know. So, What did you see while you were down there? Anything interesting?" She asked Sweetheart.
Jewel pulled Sweetheart closer "It's good to know that you would never abandon us? I really dont think I could handle that. You are the first -real- friend I've had since I've been here." She whispered.
Jewel hugged Sweetheart to her, and laid a kiss on the top of her head "As my dear mother Belinda used to say...if you count all your friends on one hand...then you have enough to last you a lifetime." she said.

Sweetheart blushed when Jewel asked if anything interesting happened by the riverbank. "Well, I did see that boy with the eye patch. He asked if I wanted to buy a paper. The look on his face was hilarious when I told him that I was a Newsie. He seemed pretty nice and he told that I should come to the Manhattan Newsboys Lodging house to meet some of the boys. But I told him that I had to ask you first." Sweetheart rambled. "Oh, he also said his name was Blink. He really liked my nickname."

Jewel looked confused, and then sighed
"Okay...You're gonna get that reaction from some people who wouldn't believe that a sweet girl like yourself would be a newsie...and don't let those crazy boys bust your chops." she said.
When Sweetheart mentioned the name of the Newsie she met, Jewel went wide-eyed.
"So, you met Mush's friend. I don't know particularly know him like that, Sweetheart. But I have seen him around. Isn't he cute as hell? Everytime I look at him and Mush, I feel like dying." She said.
