A place to get some drinks and maybe even play some poker.

<New Day - Reserved for Sonkai>
Luke spread out his five cards face up on the table and watched as the eyes of the men that surrounded the table with him - distraught and disillusioned - two looks he was familiar with and relished in the eye of an opponent. Sliding his winnings over in his direction, Luke grinned as the one man he had just cleaned out backed away from the table and the others looked nervous. Luke was by no means the card shark his brother was, Finn was a marvel, but Luke had learned well and could manage well enough when left to his own devices.
His real intention for sitting at a table on the floor of Irving Hall with a sight line to the stage, was a chance to catch the performer, Sonkai who'd so enamored him the time he'd bumped into her at Caprice. She'd been visiting a friend that Killian had more than sufficiently entertained and Luke had found himself drawn into rather interesting conversation. No doubt Killian wouldn't approve, but Luke wasn't in the habit of living by the rules of his friends and there was no harm in flirting especially with such an enticing exotic number like Sonkai.
Shuffling the cards with deftness, Luke dealt and the lay the cards beside him, grinning at the two men who still lingered at the table. "Ante up," He said, leaning back in his chair as he perused his own cards.

Sonkai was touching up her make-up in the dressing room as she prepared for her next number. She'd done a few earlier in the night and she had this last one before she was done. Tonight was one of the few nights a month when Medda allowed her to go onstage without the others dancing with her. She didn't really like many of the other dancers besides Peaches. They just didn't have the talent that she shared with her friend and with the owner. She was in a new dress, that had just been finished that day and it was rather flattering with her skin tone. A deep red with black lace trim, her eyeshadow and lipstick were the same shade of red and nicely complimented her dress.
There was a knock on the door to let her know she was going to be on stage in a few moments. She walked out, slipping her shoes on on the way and headed towards the stage. She ignored the other girls hostile glares, she was used to them. They all viewed her as a suck-up because she got to go on stage by herself, but really Medda just saw the talent that she knew she had.
She heard the piano man start the opening notes and as she walked on stage she began to sing the words to the song, her body moving in time with the music. It didn't matter what she was singing or what she was dancing too, her body automatically felt at home with the music. She knew that had to do with her upbringing because music had always been such an integral part of her life.
The birds of the forest are calling for thee And the shades and the glades are lonely Summer is there with her blossoms fair And you are absent only
No bird That nests in the greenwood tree But sighs to greet you and kiss you All the violets yearn, yearn for your safe return But most of all I miss you
Slumber on, my little gypsy sweetheart Dream of the field and the grove Can you hear me, hear me in that dreamland Where your fancies rove
Slumber on, my little gypsy sweetheart Wild little woodland dove Can you hear the love song that tells you All my heart's true love
The fawn that you tamed has a look in its eyes That doth say, "We are too long parted" Songs that are trolled by our comrades old Are not now as they were light hearted
The wild rose fades in the leafy shades Its ghost will find you and haunt All the friends say come, come to your woodland home And most of all I want you
As she finished she blew a kiss to the men in the crowd, her eyes wondering their faces. She spotted someone who looked extremely familiar before she moved off the stage. The other girls would be on soon and although she wasn't required tonight to go out onto the floor, she wanted to see if she had been correct in her assumption of who was there. If it was Luke, then she was going to be pleasantly surprised.
She walked out into the main part of the building and made a beeline for the bar to get a drink of whiskey. She'd never been particularly found of it until she'd met Sarah and then she'd acquired a taste. Lifting the glass in one hand, her eyes scanned the room for his face and she couldn't help the smirk that crossed her lips when she spotted him. Instead of going to him though she simply turned back towards the bar and took a seat in at one of the bar stools. She ignored the drunks around her trying to get her attention and simply waited to see if he'd come to her.

To most it would look like Luke's attention was solely on the cards in his hand, on the red and black and money tossed on the table as the music played in the background. But he was very aware of the moment Sonkai stepped on stage, saw the way the red dress hugged her curves and accented the tan of her skin. Oh Killian might have a problem with her heritage but as far as Luke was concerned it just added to the pretty picture - the very pretty picture. He could appreciate the sound of her voice as well, though that was mostly secondary as he laid his cards down to win another hand and sending the man directly across from him into a nervous sort of gazing about the room. He looked as though he might bolt and Luke was really hoping he didn't, the results wouldn't be tasteful for anyone involved and then he'd have to leave. And as Sonkai slipped onto the floor and headed for the bar, Luke was certain her didn't want to leave - not just yet.
He watched her as she settled into a bar stool after scanning the crowd and he grinned a little to himself as he was certain that she had seen him. As it was, he was growing tired of the card game and her company was far preferred to what he was currently keeping. "I'm out gentlemen," Luke said, gathering the last of his winnings as he flashed a grin and then turned to head for the bar and to settle on the bar stool right beside Sonkai. "Mind if I sit?" He asked, giving her his best smile and wink as he waved the bartender over and ordered a drink.

She turned her head towards him and purposely kept her face passive as her eyes scanned him. She pretended she didn't remember him, but remember him she certainly did. It had been quite some time since she had met a man like him. One who wasn't concerned with her heritage and could hold a decent conversation without making it completely obvious he was staring at something other then her face. His conversation had been better then decent, in fact, it had been refreshing. It wasn't often she came across someone who could keep up with her. "I suppose you'll do," She said lightly as she lifted the whiskey to her lips.
She leaned her elbow on the back of the bar stool and turned so that her body was facing him and her back was to the other men who had been trying to capture her attention before Luke sat down. "Did you win much money?" She asked, nodding her head towards the card table. She realized she was basically telling him that regardless of her little oblivious act she not only remembered him but noticed he'd been there as well. She was surprised to see him here, actually. She had been almost certain that the last time she'd seen him would be the last time she'd see him.

Luke laughed at her comment, certain that despite her demeanor she remembered exactly who he was and he shot her a half smile as his drink was placed in front of him. "So I'll do then," He mused, taking a sip of the drink and enjoying the soft buzz that it created as it slid down his throat. Luke took a moment to study her profile, the low light on the floor casting half her face in shadow and making her look even more enticing up close than she had from the stage. "I suppose you'll do as well," He repeated back to her, thoughts drifting with his eyes as they roved her body. Previous conversation told him she didn't exactly appreciate that kind of attention, but Luke wasn't going to deny himself the pleasure, or the view.
"Did alright," He commented, now certain that she remembered him and felt some pride in knowing that her presence at the bar hadn't been merely happenstance: she had seen him. Sonkai was facing him now and he mimicked her move, leaning back a little in the stool and considering her again, this time a little bit more openly. "I like your show," He motioned towards the stage with a wave of his hand, but didn't take his eyes off of her as he lifted the glass to his lips once again. "You didn't mention how good you were last time."

A small smirk pulled at her lips as she played with the glass in her hand, swishing the liquid back and forth. She merely raised an eyebrow when he repeated her words back to her, her eyes taking on a playful light. Sonkai was actually surprised by how pleased she was by his presence, but she brushed that away. She was far from the type of girl who got lightheaded around the first man who flirted with her. She laughed quietly when he directed her words towards her and gave him a wide smile. "Will I?" She questioned, her tone light but there was a bit of bite there as well because she could see exactly where his mind was going.
She wasn't exactly opposed to romantic entanglements, but she certainly wanted to be positive that he realized even if she were to invite him to her room it wouldn't mean anything. Since coming to New York it had taken her awhile to get over what had happened to her when she was taken from her caravan, but she was beginning to and it was bringing out her old ways. She had never been raised with silly notions like monogamy or boundaries. Granted she wasn't going to go to bed with just any man but she was a free spirit and if she found someone who suited her she wouldn't have a problem taking him to her bed.
She raised the glass to her lips, taking a healthy swallow before putting it back on the bar as he answered her question. When he complimented her show she gave him a smile, "Thank you." She was rather pleased with her performance as well and she could tell by the number of heated glances being sent her way that he wasn't the only one who'd enjoyed it. "Didn't I? Maybe I'm just not big on bragging," She said with a smirk. Though that was hardly true, but she didn't look at it as bragging just being confident. "Is that why you're here? Did you come all the way to Manhattan to watch me perform?"

Oh she would do just fine as far as Luke was concerned, he liked the look of her and the way it seemed her brain was always working behind those dark seemingly endless eyes. He liked how heat seemed to come off her in waves but unlike her fellow dancers or friends, it didn't seem intentional or like she cared. He wondered what she might think if she knew how he spent his time, the trouble that he and his brother stirred up with the fellow gang members that went far beyond what most would consider just trouble. But the truth was, that really wasn't her business and didn't have a place here when he'd much rather be thinking of other things - more exotic things.
"And what if I did?" Luke asked, leaning forward to rest an arm on the bar as he moved a little bit more into her space. "What if I did come all the way down here to Manhattan, just to see you?" He grinned at her, rubbing at his chin with a hand as he watched her, trying to see if he could figure out what she was thinking. In a lot of ways he appreciate the challenge that she presented and how she didn't simply simper or fall into his arms at a flash of his smile, no doubt those women had their place and Luke enjoyed them, but he found women like Sonkai far more...interesting.

Sonkai purposely darted her tongue out to run it across her bottom lip as she pretended to contemplate his question. She raised her hand to run her fingers across his own as she leaned in close. "Well then I'd say that I hope the show was worth the trip." She knew she was teasing him and she wasn't finding it incredibly easy and amusing. "I know what a long walk it is, the cool weather might be just what you need on the way home."
A smirk played at her lips as she pulled back and removed her hand to grasp her glass and raise it to her mouth. She finished off the alcohol that was inside and set it back on the counter, motioning for another. Sonkai knew she'd have to drink that one slowly so it wouldn't go to her head. As she waited for her drink, she brushed her curled hair back over her shoulder. "I don't see you coming all this way to visit me," There was laughter in her voice as she spoke. "Though I know I do have quite an effect on some men....men who prefer exotic things."

His eyes couldn't miss the trail of her tongue across her lips, or the way she lifted her hand so her fingers could trail along his own - she was a minx and Luke rather liked it. Catching her hand with his he lifted it to his lips and brushed a kiss against the back of it, "Worth every step." Dissolving into a laugh at her words about the need for the cold after leaving - he was really hoping that wouldn't be the case this time around, that he might find something else to sate him rather than letting the cold be his neutralizer.
Luke watched as she moved her hair over her shoulder so it cascaded down her back and gave him ample view of tan shoulders and the delicate curve of her neck that Luke was having delicious thoughts about even as she spoke. A slow smile spread across Luke's face as he looked at her, this one slower than the ones before it, more intense as he reached for his glass and downed the rest of his drink before slowly leaning forward. He could smell the spicy scent of her as he drew closer, wanted to know if it lingered against every inch of her skin but he focused instead on the curve of her ear. "I have a taste for exotic things," He murmured, his voice pitched low as his hand settled on the back of her stool, his fingers just barely grazing the small of her back. "Especially exotic things that are a little spicy."

She felt the back of her neck heat up a bit when he raised her hand to brush his lips across the back of it. One thing Sonkai had never been was someone who blushed or someone who enjoyed blushing so she was glad it at least wasn't a visible reaction. Instead she just laughed lightly and reached out for her freshly filled glass. When he leaned in so there was barely any space between them, she had to bite her lip to keep from gasping in surprise. He certainly hadn't been this forward the last time she'd seen him, but she was enjoying the flirtation as much as she knew he was.
She turned her head to look him in the eyes and raised an eyebrow in a silent challenge, "Are you trying to woo me into bed, Mr. Gallagher?" The smile that tugged at her lips was flirty enough to show that the possibility of that happening wasn't as far-fetched as one might assume from the tone of her voice. "Aren't you going to buy a lady a drink first?" She tilted her head to the side and her voice took on a mocking tone. "Or have you drank enough already? I've heard too much alcohol causes certain problems for men who are trying to woo someone into bed."

"And what if I was Sonkai?" Luke asked, seeing no reason to dance neatly around the topic like others did. Sonkai may not be as physically responsive as that dancer that Killian took up with, but she had her own ways of sending a message and Luke was learning more of them by the moment. Like how she laughed just so and used her quick tongue that required you to read between the lines to know just exactly where you stood with her.
"Darling, I'd buy you ten drinks if I thought it might get me what I wanted," Luke said with a wink, letting his fingers slide upwards a little on her back, wondered what it would be like to slide down the zipper he felt beneath them. "But something tells me it takes a little more than a drink or two to entice you, it's just my job to figure out what that is." Luke laughed and moved away for a moment to reach for the drink the bartender had just left for him, taking a sip before turning back to Sonkai, letting his gaze linger and heat.
"Don't you worry about me," Luke reassured her, now feeling the pleasant buzz of alcohol more intently than he had before as he set the glass down onto the bar. "I haven't had a complaint yet - don't think you will either." The grin that blossomed on his face was confident and almost rakish, and Luke knew that he got away with a lot because of that smile, perhaps far too much.

"Well then I'd say you'd better be prepared to wage a battle," She said teasingly. She wasn't easily won over, but she liked the way his mind worked. She wondered what other ways his mind worked in and she wouldn't mind finding out but she was hardly going to make it easy for him. He was the first man who'd even attracted her attention beyond benign conversation since she'd stepped foot into New York and she wasn't going to give him what he wanted easily. She wasn't a fool and she knew that once they both got what they wanted they wouldn't have much use for each other and she was enjoying the game far too much for him to win so easy.
Her free hand dropped to rest lightly on his knee, as she purposely leaned into the space that was now open. She knew it gave him an ample view of her cleavage and she wanted to tease him a little because he was doing a damn good job of teasing her. "You're right about that, Luke." Her tone was teasing as her fingers danced up his leg before leaving it. "You have your work cut out for you."
She raised her glass to her lips once more enjoying the burn of the alcohol as it traveled down her throat. "Is that so? Maybe they just didn't want to hurt your feelings." She grinned ruthlessly and set the glass down on the bar once more. Her blood felt as though it were boiling in her body when he sent her that smile. "You know, that look shouldn't be legal. I bet you have girls throwing their skirts over their heads when you send them that look."

"I am well equipped to do battle, darling," Luke said, finding he enjoyed seeing this side of her - looser and more relaxed than when they first met. Her smiles were coming easier and she seemed to almost relish his attention which Luke considered a small victory all things considered. He was under no illusions that this was going to be a simple sort of endeavor, but seeing as he was rather enjoying the cat and mouse game he didn't find much reason to object.
Her hand found his leg then, her touch almost gentle but he wasn't focused on her touch, not when she was leaning forward so he could get a good look at her cleavage and everything else that she had to offer. "Oh I'm a big fan of hard work," Luke commented, resisting the urge to let his hand, which still rested near the small of her, trail up to cup the back of her neck and bring her mouth to his. There would be time enough for that sort of exploration, Luke was absolutely certain of it, and she was making the chase so damn enticing.
Her hand slid northward and stayed, causing blood to rush in his veins and he couldn't help but laugh as she commented on his smile. Little did she know just how much damage that smile truly could do. "And yet your skirt remains firmly in place," Luke commented, downing the rest of his drink and waving to the bartender for another, his winnings were burning a hole in his pocket and he saw no reason to stop the flow. "We really should do something about that."

"Is that so?" She asked her voice low and a bit throaty from singing still. She could say first hand that he had enough charm to win just about any battle she put between them, but she wasn't going to go down without a fight. It was the fight that kept things interesting and if he was anything like her he would be thinking along the same lines. "Hmmm...." She trailed off to lift the glass once more to her lips and finish it's contents. She figured the bartender would notice and refill, but he might be wary about doing it much longer. She wasn't much of a drinker and they knew it here, they might think she was losing her edge and she couldn't afford that with the jealous looks she'd been receiving all night from the other girls. They'd do and say anything to edge her out of Medda's good graces.
"I bet you are. You never struck me as someone who liked taking the easy way out." Of course, if he'd come all the way to Manhattan to try to get under her skirts then he certainly must enjoy a challenge. "I've never been a fan of them myself," She said with a smirk. Or of making things easy for others.
A small smile played teasingly at the corner of her lips, "I'm hardly just any girl. Though I think you knew that before you came here tonight." She laughed at his next comment, her head tilting up slightly. "You have a lot of confidence in your abilities. Are you sure you aren't wasting them on me?" She quirked an eyebrow and smiled brightly at him. Sonkai was sure if any of the other girls were watching this exchange they wouldn't know what to do with themselves. Sonkai hardly ever said more then two words to a customer and her smiles were even more rare especially in their presence.
