"And--?" Dutchy stopped himself, shutting up before she could tell him to do so.
"Sorry. None of my business." He shook his head.

"Naw it's fine Dutchy. Most people don't know anywho, I don't like to have anyone know much about me." Piper replied to him in a honest tone and smiled.

"Why not?" Dutchy asked sincerely, if not a little concerned.

"Cause a lot of stuff went down in my past. I don't want to be looked at as a vulnerable person, a weak goil or somethin'." Piper replied in a mumble. The death of her parents, her brother getting a job and hardly being there for her, and almost burning down a church as a kid because she had to be so close to fire.

Dutchy shook his head and spoke sincerely, "Hey, Snyder scares everyone. Even Jack. And I don't see you that way."

Piper smiled from his remark and felt better about herself already. Sure she felt weak sometimes, but it was better to be around the friends who liked her and knew the true her.
"Thanks Dutch." Piper thanked in a genuine smile to him.

He returned her smile, taking a sip of soda, "Any time, Piper."

Piper grinned and drank down the rest of her soda and sighed in relief.
"So, Dutchy, how's the paper sellin' treatin' you lately?" Piper asked him aloud.

"Pretty well. Had enough saved to buy a book," Dutchy pulled the small paperback from his back pocket, sliding it across the table to her. "If Jack doesn't catch me reading it I might give it to him for his birthday or something...." He shrugged, "Or just let him have it anyhow. It's a bit of a series. But, you know, broken up so that it isn't too hard to just jump in from any old book."
The cover showed a blonde cowboy on the top of a train, gun in hand, another man, the bad guy obviously, dressed in all black. A Chinaman holding a bag of money. Money flew through the wind caused by the moving train, making for one riveting book cover: "Roy O'Bannon and the Great Train Robbery" by O. L. Wilson

Piper looked at the book with wonder and curiosity as if she was a young child. She smiled from seeing the picture and looked up at her fellow newsie, pointing to the picture.
"Ive been these books before, like in the bookstore front window. The one i saw was of O Banon fighting off a mummy, it looked like something my brother would read." PIper replied aloud as she looked back at the cover. Action books were always good to read

Dutchy's eyes widened a bit, "A mummy! Gosh, I haven't even heard of that one yet. Which store was it?"

"The one down here's a bit, near the corner. I saw that the book was still in display yesterday, maybe it's still there. But I wouldn't know cause maybe it's a best seller." Piper explained to Dutchy, pointing with her finger over her shoulder in the direction of the store she was talking about.
"You should snag it. I read a page or two out of it before the book keeper kicked me out for loitering or something like that, it's good." Piper told him in a excited tone.

Dutchy chuckled but shook his head, "Nah, I can't afford another right now..."He shrugged, "Maybe when I'm done with this one... It might still be around, if they order more. You know if it's selling that well."

"Hey would it be possible if I could borrow that after you're done reading it? I've always wanted to read them." Piper said aloud to him in a curious tone as she looked at him. She wanted to read them very much so, but buying a book nowadays was bad enough, so she would bum off her friends and read their books.

"Sure," He smiled, then shrugged, "If Jack doesn't get wind of it first. I suppose he wouldn't mind waiting for you to read it, but..."
