Eventually (most often, immediately) everyone sees her mean side to some degree. •she's a tomboy- Alice may wear dresses and own dolls, but the dolls just sit, collecting dust while her dresses collect rips and stains (mended and cleaned to the bast of her mother's ability of course) from games of stickball, tree-climbing in the part and all manner of other fun activities that she manages to threaten her way into with the neighborhood boys. •Her parents own the Harlem apartments- if you're a tenant in the Harlem apartments, you undoubtedly see Alice, working on her many chores around the building almost every day and you have to deal with her at least once a month when it comes time for her to collect the rent. After that experience, most people you know outside of the apartment building will probably hear at least one complaint from you about the landlords' little devil of a daughter. If Alice is anything, she's hard to forget. History Born in 1887, Alice was the result of years and years of failed attempts at having children for her parents. At the age of 35, her mother, Alma, had barely survived the delivery and her parents, who had once dreamed of a large family, had decided that it would be too risky to try again. From that point on, they focused all of their affections and expectations on their little girl, even using her mother’s maiden name as her middle name (a practice often reserved for the first son in a family). For the first few years of her life, she got all of her parents’ attention and most of the relatively limited resources which they earned from the Harlem Apartment building which they had inherited from one of her father, Thomas’s, uncles when he had passed away. However, such adoration came with a price for little Alice. As she began to develop her own personality, she felt immense pressure from her parents to be the little girl that they had always dreamed of. For a long time, she managed to do what she had to in order to keep her parents happy. She asked her parents for dolls and pretty dresses even when she wanted baseballs and books. She made sure to bring home plenty of little friends for tea parties and princess games no matter how boring they were or how little she liked the girls she was playing with. By the time she was nine years old, however, she grew sick of having her life made up of things that she didn’t enjoy and she began to ignore her parents’ wishes. She put all of her dolls up onto shelves and bought a baseball, some marbles and a wooden sword with the allowance money that she had accumulated through the years and hoped that her parents would still love her. Unfortunately, while her parents did still love her, they no longer displayed it to the degree that they used to and Alice could no longer see it at all. They began to put her to work around the apartments, collecting rent from the tenants, cleaning vacant rooms, and bringing groceries and other commodities to the elderly residents in order for her to earn her allowance. They grew stricter with her and less interested in her day to day life. Alice, who noticed every change, was devastated by her parents’ disappointment and began to withdraw from even her new friends. She became bitter and controlling with children and adults alike and now has little patience or remorse for others. Nowadays, when she isn’t at school or doing chores, she can often be found either by herself in central park or on the steps of her parents’ building , writing stories about pirates or knights or playing games with some of the local kids (usually boys). She specially likes to play stickball and marbles games and she’s good enough at them that despite the fact that she’s not necessarily the most pleasant person to be around, she has little trouble getting included in such games when she wants to be.
