One o'clock in the afternoon, and Midtown was a hive of activity. Merchants hawked their wares from their sidewalk carts, set up like obstacles that the masses of people weaved around like stones in a river. Everyone walked with purpose, with either their arms or their pockets full (or, at least, fuller than they had been that morning). Jack Kelly observed all this and took pleasure in the warm summer day, the bubbling sound of thousands of voices sounding off at once, and the fact that he had nothing to do or worry about.
He leaned against the side of the vegetable cart, smoking a cigarette and flirting with the pretty Polish girl selling cabbages. He liked that he would make a joke and she'd respond with smiling and laughing--not giggling, a real laugh. She had a nice smile, but tired eyes with dark circles. She looked better when she smiled.
He took a moment to grind his cigarette butt beneath his heel, and when he looked up again, he thought he saw someone he knew further down the street. Taking a chance, he waved them over.

((if this is open for someone, let me know, if not I'm gonna join in!))
It wasn't too surprising that Jack hadn't been sure if he had recognized Prince or not. She'd changed a little bit. Well, that was an understatement. Lately, Prince had become femanine. She worked at the theatre in Queens now, and the owner, Naiomi had a few rules. Girls were girls, Prince was a girl, she was to dress like one. Her character was still a little rough, but she had no problems with her tomboyish ways, but she sure looked a lot different.
She was in Manhattan today because she'd been sent on an errand. They needed some new fabric for some dancing girls costumes, and she had been sent to retreive it. She had the fabric tucked on a rope that was around her shoulders, like she had done with newspapers only a year or so ago, and was walking down the street, staying more to the crowds than out in the open. It had been years since she'd seen her father, so she didn't think he'd recognize her at this point anymore. But she was still remaining cautious.
She saw Jack down the road and smiled wide when he waved her over. She had really missed her old friend. And for some reason, it had felt as though it had been too long since they last spoke. "Well howdy Cowboy," Prince said with a bright smile and a wink. She offered a cordial hand to him in a friendly manner. "And how have you been holdin' up lately, friend?" Something in her face, or her eyes could give Jack the idea that she missed not only him, but being a newsie, but at the same time, she was genuinely happy where she was in her life.
