NEW DAY ~ OPEN [/B][/I] Sonkai sat at the bar of a nameless pub in Hell's Kitchen. She ignored the ruffians around her as they tried to get her attention. She wasn't worried about being bothered her because she knew the beefy bartender behind the counter. He'd been into Irving Hall countless times and she always let him drink on the house so she knew he wouldn't let anything happen to her. She sipped on a glass of whiskey as she tried to calm her nerves from the week. Some of the newer girls at Irving were really beginning to grate on her nerves and she was sure Medda felt the same way. They refused to do anything to help out around the place. A small sigh escaped her as she forced herself to stop thinking about it and rolled her shoulders slightly trying to alleviate some of the tension building up in them. It had been a long week and she only had the afternoon off before going back to work for the rest of the weekend. Honestly, she didn't mind the work. It helped keep her mind off her family and her intense need to find them. She would leave to find them one day but she knew it would probably be a fruitless search. Although she knew the areas they used to camp in she wasn't sure they would still camp there.

Sarah walked into the pub in Manhattan, well aware that she had walked rather far from Queens but didn't much care. Today was a day for wandering, because staying cooped up at Caprice on an off day hardly seemed like a reasonable form of entertainment and Sarah did enjoy getting out and exploring the city. As it was, she could do with a bite to eat and perhaps a spot of whiskey in her belly - though admittedly she could do with that on most occasions in general. So when she happened along the pub, she'd stepped inside, automatically smiling at the men who turned to see who walked in, used to the attention.
Her green eyes scanned the dark interior, looking for a place to sit and found a familiar frame sitting along the bar and she smiled, oh it had been a time since she had seen her friend. "Must you always look so glum?" Sarah asked as she walked over and plopped down on the stool next to Sonkai with a smile, eyebrow raised as she looked over at her friend. They connected because they had similar personalities, similar goals but it was easy enough to say that Sonkai was a little rougher around the edges than Sarah - Sarah liked that about her.
Reaching for and finding her cigarettes, Sarah tossed them on the table as she lit one and took a long drag before nodding at the bartender. "Whiskey, make it a double, sugar," She ordered with a grin and a wink before glancing back over at Sonkai. "Where you been hiding yourself? Stopped into Irving last week but they said you weren't around."

"Glum? I prefer unapproachable." Sonkai smiled as she raised her eyes to meet Sarahs as she sat in the seat next to her. "Have you seen the lot that are occupying this bar? If I don't look this way I'll be fending them off with a chair in a bit." It was true. The men in the bar had a way about them that made it pretty obvious that they were less then chivalrous. They'd been eying Sonkai since the minute she walked in and Sarah's appearance only made them more intrigued. "Can't imagine what would bring you to this part of Manhattan."
Sonkai had begun to make it a habit to visit this bar. When she was away from Irving and not wandering around Manhattan she was most likely getting a drink here. It was a bar that no one she knew really frequented, which is why she was so surprised to see Sarah there. "I haven't been hiding, per say, just been taking more time to enjoy my surroundings. Medda doesn't mind me going off on my own when the other girls are being irritating. She'd rather me walk away then start a fight." One she'd surely win, but Sonkai knew that Medda needed those extra hands around. Which is why she kept most of her complaints about them to herself. She knew Medda realized what absolute tarts they were so she didn't have to tell her. The only decent people there were Toby and Peaches in her opinion. There was a new girl there who looked promising but she hadn't done anything to earn Sonkai's respect yet.

"You make fending men off with a chair sound absolutely dreadful," Sarah said, her tone teasing as she smiled flirtatiously at the bartender when he dropped off her drink. "I need to show you the sport of it," Sarah teased, winking at Sonkai as she took a sip of the whiskey and then a hit off her cigarette, blowing out a long stream of smoke before explaining her presence. "Was just out for a walk, blessed day off and not a damn thing to do with it, so I thought I might head over to Irving again and drop in on you," Sarah explained, shoving a pin back into place in her dark hair. "But I saw this place and thought a drink might be in order first."
And she had hoped maybe she might bump into Killian, though she dare not breathe that aloud to another soul. In truth, she had been giving the large, dangerous Irishman a lot of thought lately and she wasn't entirely sure that was the best idea. Men like Killian didn't like to be thought about with meaning, at least not in Sarah's experience - but the fact of the matter was he kept crawling into her brain whether she wanted him there or not. So the walk had been both a distraction and a rather roundabout way after a goal and the fact was it all made her head spin a little to think about. So she let her mind settle on the topic Sonkai offered up, that was easy. "Girls still giving you trouble?"

"I'm sure I'd find some pleasure in it if were a better crowd than this one." Sonkai's eyes danced around the room as she once again took in the men that occupied the bar. Dirty and stinking drunk had never been her type. She didn't mind men who liked their alcohol but she was damn sure not gonna be interested in someone who hadn't bathed in weeks and whose teeth were stained yellow. The thought alone had her inwardly cringing. Sonkai smirked at Sarah's explanation, "Good choice." If she hadn't walked into this bar she probably would've wasted her time walking all the way to Manhattan.
Sonkai sipped her drink and shrugged her shoulder absently. "When aren't they? They don't want to do any work around the place and they all want more time on stage and less time on the floor." Sonkai couldn't help but roll her eyes. Sometimes Medda was too soft with them and they definitely took advantage of that. It seemed as though Medda was finally reaching the end of her tether and they were probably going to be holding auditions very shortly. She signaled for another drink before turning her full attention on Sarah. "No other reason you came all the way to Manhattan?"

Sarah rolled her eyes at the descriptions of the other performers at Irving, through Sonkai and from her own experience in the audience, Sarah knew they were a lazy bunch. There was no doubt that Sarah enjoyed a good time and she certainly didn't begrudge a soul the decadence of well earned relaxation - but they damn sure had better have worked for it. Perhaps it came from the trials of her youth or the fact that she nearly always had to make it on her own, but she had learned early that sometimes you had to do things you didn't want to do in order to have the things you truly wanted. Laziness was unforgivable to Sarah and it seemed that Irving Hall, with a few obvious exceptions, seemed to have it in spades. Probably a side effect of Medda's soft heart; wonderful quality in a person, hard to run a business that way.
Sarah shook her head noncommittally at Sonkai's question because the truth was officially there was no other reason. Her feet had wandered and Sarah had followed because that was her nature on a day like today - it was the West in her blood she supposed, but sometimes she just needed to get out and roam. "Just stretching my legs," Sarah said, doing just that on the stool and catching one of the guys at the end of the bar staring and she met his eyes and winked slowly, lips curling into a feline smile that both enticed and warned. Advances wouldn't be welcome, not here and not by him, but flirting was second nature to a woman like Sarah. "Seen any of Luke?"

Sonkai bit back a scoff and just shook her head at Sarah's response that her legs needed to be stretched. Her friend had an answer for everything, it was one of the things Sonkai liked about her the most. When Sarah asked about Luke, Sonkai pretended not to remember him. It was what she did with most of her past lovers. "Who?" She batted her eyes jokingly and shook her head. "Nope. Haven't seen neither hide nor hair of the man and trust me, I prefer it that way." The one thing Sonkai couldn't stand were lovers who got a bit too possessive. Who continued to show up after she was finished with them. Her and Luke had both had fun but they'd understood that that was the end of it.
Sonkai quirked her brow questioningly at Sarah, "Why? Seen much of his rough looking friend? What was his name?" She really had spaced a bit on it, but she was also beginning to wander why Sarah had brought Luke up if not to talk about his friend. The thing she'd had with Luke had ended just as quickly as it had started and that had been ages ago. Sonkai finished her drink and motioned the bartender to bring her another.

Sarah smirked as Sonkai acted as though she couldn't remember Luke, though Sarah knew full well she did - not because Sonkai was especially attached to Luke but because that night's situation had been a unique one. As friends, Sarah and Sonkai spent a great deal of time together and they often attracted some men of varying classes and tastes; mostly they skirted them aside. But the charming Irishman and his dark, dangerous friend had been another matter entirely and even if Luke hadn't come sniffing around again, Sarah was certain Sonkai wouldn't forget the night they met, even if it meant nothing, simply for the charm of it all.
"Killian," Sarah supplied automatically when Sonkai couldn't remember his name and in that single moment she knew she was sunk. With someone else perhaps she could have brushed aside the question, perhaps redirected the conversation and not be asked again. But Sonkai was her friend, and like Naomi had a knack for cutting through the bullshit and getting to the core of it when it came to Sarah. And though she wouldn't force her to share, Sarah didn't see much point in lying about it either. "I see him...often," Sarah shared, a ghost of a smile crossing her features as she remembered the last time she had, when they had enticed each other on the floor at Caprice and then he'd followed her upstairs to her rooms. "Perhaps more often than a man like that should be seen." She added, tapping out the ashes on the end of her cigarette into the meager ashtray that was provided at the bar.
