Fighter had to stop herself from rolling her eyes at the girl who spoke and turned to look at her raising her eyebrow ever so slightly. She might be buzzed but she was nowhere near drunk and even though she couldn't remember the girls name she felt the need to hit her. Instead she shrugged her shoulders and bumped Gwennie playfully before answering.
When she did deign to answer the girl, she narrowed her eyes and smirked. "Haven't seen him in awhile actually. She can stay. Like I said Conlon's as likely to notice she's here as he is to move to Queens."
Fighter shrugged, she knew her leader would slap her upside the head if he heard that but she also knew he would agree with her. He had too much on his plate to be overly concerned with the new kids as long as they didn't get in his way and if they did they were likely to not only be kicked out but beat up as well. Besides they came and went so fast it was hard to keep track of them. "Just make sure you pay for the lodging and you got a bunk. We got a couple free ones to fill anyway. Tomorrow you can talk to Smalls or Lucky about something permanent."
Finishing her cigarette she stubbed it out and took a drink from her flask before tucking it into her pocket. Glancing down at Gwennie, she smirked. "Wanna play a few rounds of jacks before bed, kid?"

(OOC: I like how Fighter had the urge to hit Jewel... she seems to have that effect on a lot of people...LOL.)
Jewel rolled her eyes and sighed again "Like I'se said...a long night." she muttered to herself as she watched Fighter and Gwennie converse.
Jewel then turned back to Shane, and smiled "Well, youse heard Fighter... she said you can stay. I'se don't know why Spot hasn't been around lately. But, he should be showing his cute behind 'ere soon." she told the new girl.
She then turned to look at the sun as it began to set on the water. Something suddenly clouded her thoughts. Things she hadn't thought about in a while...like her older sister Lydia, who was still missing after all these years.
Stubbing out her cigarette, Jewel decided to stay outside a little longer since it had gotten quiet out suddenly.
She suddenly heard footsteps approaching her.

((OOC Hello everyone. It has kindly been brought to my attention that I have committed a couple of mistakes already, and I would like to apologize to everyone. I am fairly new to rp in general, and this is the first time I've rp'd in a forum setting, so please be patient with me and if I mess up again, feel free to point it out, as I can't learn from my mistakes if I don't know I've made them! )) "Hey Banshee, how's it rollin?"Banshee glanced at Jewel and took another drag of his cigarette as he shrugged a bit. "It's rollin', luv," he said before looking back at Shane. "Good luck wit' findin' Spot... He's no' been 'round much lately..." He leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes as he tried to enjoy the rest of his smoke in peace. "So, what's ya been up ta today?"Banshee cracked his eyes and smirked at Jewel's flirty smile. "Same thing as you, I'll wager... Just sellin', yeah?" He finished his cigarette and tossed the butt to the ground as he pushed himself off from the wall, intending to head inside. He stopped, however, when he noticed Fighter approaching them. He watched with an inward smile as she ruffled Gwennie's hair before turning towards him and Jewel. "What you gonna make her wait out here all day?"Banshee rolled his eyes and kept his mouth shut. Frankly, he didn't care one way or the other, and wasn't about to get involved, especially when Fighter seemed determined to bypass Spot altogether. Not that he could argue with her logic... Everyone knew Spot was preoccupied elsewhere at the moment, and in the meantime, Shane DID need a place to stay, but still... Crossing Spot Conlon was not high on Banshee's list of things to do, especially for someone he didn't know. When Fighter tensed a little, Banshee smirked as he glanced between her and Jewel. His day had been fairly dull, and he could think of worse things than watching the two girls go at it. However, the evening was to afford no such entertainment, as Fighter instead turned back to Gwennie and offered to play a game of jacks with her. Not quite ready to go inside yet, Banshee lit another cigarette, only to choke on the smoke when he heard Jewel mention their leader's "cute behind". *Christ, does the lass have no shame?*, he thought to himself with a small grin and a shake of his head. He watched Jewel with mild interest as he smoked his cigarette unhurriedly, wondering what had the girl so distracted that she apparently had forgot he was there. ((Tag: Anyone))

(OOC: I too must apologize for the mistakes I've been making. Wow. This is harder than I thought sometimes.)
Jewel turned her head, and only could tell that the person who had been approaching her was Banshee. She quickly turned back yo face the pier, her breath becoming caught in her throat
"Oh wow, here comes Mr. Cute and Mysterious. I'se didn't even know that he was still out 'ere* she said out loud, hoping that the person in question didn't hear her.
She then turned back to Banshee, a seemingly harmless and flirtatious smile crossing her face once again "Well, didn't think you'se would still be down 'ere? Not 'dat I'se mind of course. Why don't ya come and join me in admirin' da view of da sunset?" she asked.
Jewel smiled to herself *Apparently, having company is MUCH better than being alone* she thought more to herself this time.

Banshee raised his brow when a bit of movement on his part caused Jewel to jump. *Skittish little thing,* he thought as she turned back to look out over the water. With her back to him, Banshee allowed his gaze to drift over her. He wasn't in the market to make friends per say, but a little diversion was always welcome, and Jewel wasn't a bad looking girl....
"Oh wow, here comes Mr. Cute and Mysterious. I'se didn't even know that he was still out 'ere*
He approached her slowly, a smug grin flashing briefly across his face as he heard her mumbled words. When she turned to look at him, however, he gave no indication to having heard her, and instead gave her an innocent smile in answer to her own flirtatious one.
"Well, didn't think you'se would still be down 'ere? Not 'dat I'se mind of course. Why don't ya come and join me in admirin' da view of da sunset?"
Banshee couldn't help but smirk at Jewel's slight babbling, and barely stifled the urge to roll his eyes. Watchin' the sunset... Was she for real? He could think of few things duller than watching the sun sink into the harbor. He opened his mouth to tell her so, but noticed the slightly hopeful expression on her face and remained silent. Instead, he gave her a charming smile as he moved a little closer to her. "I'd love t', darlin'," he lied. *Never could resist a pretty face, boyo...* he mocked himself good naturedly.

((OOC: Jewel is in the need to vent out her thoughts in this scene...so just be gentle here...LOL.)
Jewel smiled as Banshee joined her to watch the sunset. She just about melted as he smiled at her.
Jewel sighed, watching as the sun went down into the harbor. "I'se sure glad youse came out 'ere ta watch 'dis wit' me. I'se used ta watch sunsets with me older sister Lydia when we were younger. She loved it, and so did I. But 'dat was so long ago. She went missin' about 2 years ago, and I'se hasn't seen 'er since." she explained to Banshee.
Jewel became aware of the sudden closeness between her and Banshee. Just then suddenly, with all her thoughts hitting her at once, she began to cry.
She laid her head on Banshee's shoulder "I'se don't know why I'se always end up bein' alone in life. First my parents die, and then my sister goes missin'. I'se already know that being a newsie means inheriting a 'new family', but sometimes, I jus' wish I'se could see my real family again. I've been here for 2 years ago, it'll be 3 years a week after me 16th Birthday that I got recruited by this group." she cried, burying her face in Banshee's arm.

Banshee sat down beside Jewel and leaned back against the steps. He could tell by the way she was watching him that his charming smile had the desired effect on her. *This'll be easy enough, then,* he thought smugly as he settled in and said a silent prayer that the sun would set quickly.
"I'se sure glad youse came out 'ere ta watch 'dis wit' me. I'se used ta watch sunsets with me older sister Lydia when we were younger. She loved it, and so did I. But 'dat was so long ago. She went missin' about 2 years ago, and I'se hasn't seen 'er since."
Banshee was just getting to the point of deciding that the quiet between them was kind of nice when Jewel began speaking. He turned to her with a feigned expression of interest as she launched into a sob story that could have belonged to 75% of the kids in New York. When she turned to him with tears in her eyes and laid her head on his shoulder, it was all he could do not to jump to his feet and make his escape. A bit of fun was hardly worth having to deal with a hysterical girl.
Banshee fished for a cigarette as Jewel sobbed on about being alone. He found it hard to believe that the girl had made it as a newsie for as long as she had, let alone in Brooklyn, where the weak were weeded out daily. He grimaced slightly as his efforts to light his cigarette were deterred by Jewel burrowing into his arms. He allowed to himself that maybe he HAD briefly entertained the idea of ending the night with her in his arms, but crying had most definitely NOT been part of the plan.
Shifting uncomfortably, he tried to gently push the hysterical girl away, frowning when she seemed to not take the hint, and instead burrowed closer. Seeing that Jewel was truly distraught, he softened slightly, becoming almost as annoyed with himself as he was with her.
With a roll of his eyes and an impatient sigh, he began rubbing her back lightly. "Come on, then, love... No use in cryin' 'bout it, aye?" he asked roughly, silently willing the girl to get herself under control.

"Come on, then, love... No use in cryin' 'bout it, aye?"
Jewel heard Banshee's words, and looked up at him. Her green, tear-stained eyes went wide with fear as she touched her face. She had been crying *What kind of girl am I?! Crying like this?* she thought to herself as she looked at Banshee, whom at this rate, looked severely annoyed for some reason.
She quickly began to wipe her tears, sitting up again. She took comfort in the fact that his hand on her back was calming her down a bit.
"I'm so sorry...I'se don' know what came over me. It's just that when I'se think of me family, I get a little emotional." she sighed.
She then looked down at her hands, which were now wet from her tears "Look at me, I'se must seem a sight to ya. Ya know, Brooklyn Newsies, male and female alike, were trained to be tough...and here I am forgetting everything I've learned over the last 2 years by losing complete control over something that's possibly happened to half the children in this blasted city!" she snapped.
Jewel was mad at herself now, and a bit embarrassed too. She liked having Banshee's company, and she felt like a fool just pouring out her heart and soul like that. She looked up at the sky, and realized that night had fallen, and it was dark outside.
She then turned to Banshee, a smile escaped her lips. "I'se glad you stayed out 'ere with me. It's nice to have company once in a while...even if it is somewhat unexpected." she said to him.
She could see Banshee's face just a little bit in the light of the moon *Wow, what beautiful eyes this man has. I bet I could lose myself in them forever.* she thought to herself again.

Banshee was relieved when Jewel's sobs came to a shuddering halt and she sat up. Noticing her slightly frightened look, however, he continued tracing light circles on her back.
"I'm so sorry...I'se don' know what came over me. It's just that when I'se think of me family, I get a little emotional."
Banshee nodded silently and gave her a look of guarded understanding. Though he had no family to speak of, he could understand the feeling of loss, as not a day went by that he didn't think of Ireland with a soul numbing sorrow. But he had learned the hard way at a very young age to hide emotions the best he could, as there was always someone ready to prey on the weakness of others.
"Look at me, I'se must seem a sight to ya. Ya know, Brooklyn Newsies, male and female alike, were trained to be tough...and here I am forgetting everything I've learned over the last 2 years by losing complete control over something that's possibly happened to half the children in this blasted city!"
He halfheartedly toyed with the notion of denying her statement in an attempt to make her feel better, but then dismissed the thought as he realized he would be doing her no favors. Instead, he continued to trace lazy circles on her back as he watched the sun disappear while she ranted mostly to herself.
"I'se glad you stayed out 'ere with me. It's nice to have company once in a while...even if it is somewhat unexpected."
When Jewel turned to him with a smile and thanked him, he was wrapped up in his own thoughts and her words caught him off guard. He glanced over at her, only to find her watching him intently, her eyes reflecting the moonlight. He studied her in return, arguing with himself over the rights and wrongs of taking advantage of her vulnerability. Finally, kindness won out over selfishness and he sighed, removing his hand from her back. "Ya wanna sit out here a little longer?" he asked gruffly. "Wouldn't want the other's t' see ya like this, yeah?" He looked back up towards the moon and lit his cigarette.

"Ya wanna sit out here a little longer? "Wouldn't want the other's t' see ya like this, yeah?"
Jewel nodded slowly, her eyes now locked on Banshee's. She had never seen anyone so handsome in her life, with the exception of some of the Manhattan newsies.
But what she saw in Banshee was completely different.
"Yeah, we'se can sit out 'ere a lil' longer. I'm actually likin' this. Just relaxing here, watching the sunset...it's all so beautiful." Jewel sighed.
Jewel was sure that she was gonna be fine, but just to reassure herself, she sat near Banshee a little longer.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, realizing that her eyes were still locked with Banshee's... She smiled.
"I love having you 'ere wit' me, ya know. It makes me feel safe at the moment. So, once again...thank you so much for being here for me when I needed someone." she said to him.
Then without another word, Jewel leaned over, and kissed Banshee on the lips, letting her own lips linger on his for a while. When she finally broke the kiss, her green eyes met his once more.
She didn't know if it was the atmosphere, or something damn near close to it. But at that very moment, Jewel found herself falling for the brooding Irishman.

Banshee felt Jewel's eyes on him as he looked up at the moon. He took a long drag off his cigarette and exhaled it slowly before turning to look down at the girl beside him.
"Yeah, we'se can sit out 'ere a lil' longer. I'm actually likin' this. Just relaxing here, watching the sunset...it's all so beautiful."
Banshee smirked a little at the typically girlish statement and continued to study her as he smoked. The look that was starting to form in her eyes had him slightly on edge. A good time, maybe a bit of mutual gratification.... That was all he was after, but damned if this girl wasn't starting to get dreamy eyed on him. Exhaling his smoke in mild irritation, he pointedly turned to survey their surroundings. *Where the hell did Fighter get off t' anyway? Could use a bit o' what she carries in that flask o' hers...* he thought to himself.
"I love having you 'ere wit' me, ya know. It makes me feel safe at the moment. So, once again...thank you so much for being here for me when I needed someone."
Banshee cringed inwardly. Jaysus Christ! He shoulda followed his first instinct and cut his losses at the first sign of tears. He was in no mood to be anyone's knight in shining armor, no matter how well they filled out their clothes. There were plenty of other pretty girls out there with far less embarrassing ways of dealing with their problems.
Jewel leaned over, and kissed Banshee on the lips, letting her own lips linger on his for a while. When she finally broke the kiss, her green eyes met his once more.
On the other hand, he thought, none of them were here at the moment, and Jewel was being slightly less than subtle in her advances. It was hardly his fault that she was falling for him, right? And if she was disappointed later by his lack of returned affection, well, then he'd be teaching her a valuable lesson, he reasoned with himself.
Thus arriving at this conclusion, he leaned towards her, fully intending on returning the kiss and taking it as far as she would let him. But the look in her eyes as she gazed up at him in the moonlight cooled his lust more effectively than a dip in the icy East River. Trust. The foolish girl trusted him. Bloody feckin' hell!
"Go inside, Jewel," he said abruptly, rising quickly to his feet, his voice tight with frustration.

Post by Spot Conlon on Jan 6, 2011 21:52:59 GMT -5
Spot leaned back against the building cloaked by the shadows. He'd arrived moments earlier but hadn't felt the need to make his presence known. Pulling a cigarette out of his pocket he struck a match against the building and held it to the tip of his cigarette, breathing deeply to light it. Shooting a dark look at Banshee and Jewel he stepped forward, "Good choice, O'Hara."
It was a well known fact that he frowned upon people forming relationships within the lodging house. Most of the time it ended up causing far too much trouble and they had enough of that in their lives. He'd thought he wouldn't have to deal with it as much since Zeke hadn't been around and he was usually the ladies man Spot needed to worry about. Crossing his arms, he leveled them both with a cold look. He didn't know what disgusted him more, the fact that one of his girls was balling her eyes out like she was from Queens or that she'd thrown herself at one of his boys. He at least felt a little relief that Banshee hadn't done something that would've warranted a sock to the face.
Taking a deep drag of his cigarette, he continued to stare at them as though he were waiting for a response but really he was trying to make them as uncomfortable as possible. He didn't feel like dealing with this shit right now otherwise he probably would've told Jewel to find another place to stay. Girls like her never lasted long here especially with Lucky and Smalls hanging around.

"Go inside, Jewel."
Jewel followed Banshee with her eyes as he stood up. Her mouth wide open with shock. She stood up, and looked up at him. Jewel looked up more, and silently cursed herself for being only 5 Foot 4 inches tall. She then shook her head quickly, and snapped back to reality.
"Fine, I'se leavin'. But let me tell you somethin', Mister! I hope you know what this will do to your conscience. How're ya gonna live wit' da fact that you hurt a girl like me? I hope you're happy wit' yourself!" she yelled.
With those words, Jewel slapped Banshee across the face, and walked away towards the lodging house.
She then saw Spot standing there watching the whole thing between her and Banshee. Now she was embarrassed. The leader of the Brooklyn Newsies, the boy she respected for his guile and skills....had seen her cry.
*Great, just what I need right now.* she thought to herself.
As she reached the entrance, she turned back to the silhouette of Banshee "And ya know what! Youse can go to HELL!" she shouted.
She then went inside the lodging house, and shut the door behind her. "Damn him! He had to be nice to me, and moron that I am... I'se fell for it." she said to herself out loud

Banshee took a step back as Jewel got to her feet, her eyes and mouth open wide with shock.
"Fine, I'se leavin'. But let me tell you somethin', Mister! I hope you know what this will do to your conscience. How're ya gonna live wit' da fact that you hurt a girl like me? I hope you're happy wit' yourself!"
Banshee's head rocked back slightly from the unexpected slap. Was the bloody lass off her trolley? As if anything that might or might not have happened between them would have even registered on his already overloaded conscience! Well, not much anyway...... And as for living with himself, if "hurting" a girl "like her" was the worst thing he'd ever done, he'd be a bleedin' choir boy. He did, however, take offense to being slapped and took a step towards her, his dark eyes flashing angrily.
He caught himself before raising his hand to her, and allowed her to walk away. He'd never been one to hit a girl, and he wasn't about to start now. "Besides," he muttered to himself, his lips curling into a smirk. "Been slapped before, but no' for tryin' t' do the right thing... That's a new one, yeah?"
"Good choice, O'Hara."
The smirk died on his lips as Spot's mild warning came from behind him. He turned slowly to see his leader take a step forward out of the shadows. Vaguely, he noticed that Jewel also turned back, but his attention remained focused on Spot. He eyed the Brooklyn king warily, forcing himself to stand still under the icy cold glare. As the moments dragged silently on, it seemed that Spot was waiting for some response. But Banshee knew better than to speak out of turn when Spot was displeased about something.
"And ya know what! Youse can go to HELL!"
Banshee winced as Jewel shattered the uncomfortable silence with her shrieked curse. "Same t' ya, luv," he growled under his breath. He watched her disappear into the lodging house with no small amount of relief before leaning, with a casualness he didn't feel, against the wall. He could tell by Spot's expression that he was still annoyed, but what he intended to do about it was what concerned Banshee the most. He hoped Spot was feeling lenient tonight.
((OOC I hope that flowed together alright, as I was trying to tie Spot and Jewel's posts together despite the slight out of orderness))

Spot watched the scene unfold through narrowed eyes. 'Dames...' He thought to himself, wondering exactly how this girl had lasted this long in his lodging house. Spot shook his head slightly at her crazy outburst. Jesus, she made Lucky and Fighter look level-headed and that was a hard task to accomplish. He took a drag of his cigarette as his eyes followed her departure into the house.
"I'd stay clear of that one, I don't think she'll be around much longer." He shook his head, hardly able to believe what had just occurred. The girl reminded him a few others that had come and gone. If he didn't have so much to take care of these days he'd make sure she cleared out himself, but he'd just have to talk to Lucky or Smalls and have them take care of it.
Turning his attention back to Banshee he offered the kid a slight smirk. He had after all just been slapped in the face for turning down a kiss. "How've things been, O'Hara?"
