Banshee continued to lean against the wall, waiting for Spot to do something. A nervousness that was spiraling quickly into dread caused his hand to shake slightly as he brought a cigarette to his lips and fumbled with a couple of matches before finally getting it lit. He darted a quick glance towards Spot, glad that the boy's attention seemed focused elsewhere.
To tell the honest truth, Banshee was worried. Not about Spot, although the King of Brooklyn was certainly formidable and Banshee both respected and grudgingly admired him. But tough as the boy leader was, Banshee was a scrapper himself, and though there was a good chance Spot would hand him his arse, it wouldn't be the first time he'd wound up on the bad end of a fight and he knew he'd get over it.
No, what worried Banshee was the realization that he had come to think of Brooklyn as home, and now he was faced with the harsh reality that one word from Spot would send him packing. After being forced to leave Ireland a year ago he had drifted around New York for awhile before finding himself in the rough and tumble borough of Brooklyn. Although Ireland would always be his true home, Banshee had slowly settled in to life in the lodging house and had gradually developed a sense of pride in being a Brooklyn newsie. And he wasn't ready to lose all that over some lass that was clearly insane.
"How've things been, O'Hara?"
Banshee drew a quick breath, relieved to hear Spot's conversational tone. Getting his wayward thoughts and emotions firmly under control, he returned his leader's slight smirk with one of his own and shrugged with a nonchalance he was slowly beginning to feel again. "Other than tonight?" he asked with a low chuckle. "Can't complain...How's t'ings been wit' you?"

Spot enjoyed the fact that he had the power to make others incredibly uncomfortable. It wasn't something he yielded on a daily basis but it was useful for him because it kept his newsies in line and that was hard task to accomplish by others. He knew he had the power to not only kick any of their asses but also to send them packing. The fact that they knew it made most of them obey without any problem and the few who did cause problems didn't last long. Especially the ones who thought they could take him on in a fight. It was a rare occurrence these days when one of his newsies thought they could beat him in a fight but it hadn't always been that way and he'd bruised and bloodied plenty of others because of it.
These days though everyone knew the score and tended to stay as far away from his bad side as possible which was fine with him. Spot had plenty of other things on his mind without his lodgers giving him attitude. He nodded at Banshee's reply and smirked slightly glad he wasn't on receiving end of that girls craziness. Although he hadn't seen Smalls in longer then he cared to think about he knew she'd never act that way and he appreciated that more then he could say.
"Busy," He said evasively and took another drag of his cigarette.

Banshee nodded, the vagueness of Spot's reply not bothering him in the slightest. He liked to keep himself to himself and had always respected the right for others to do the same. A silence descended over the two boys, and though Banshee would by no means presume to call it a companionable silence, it was at least comfortable enough for him to be in no hurry to trade it for the noise of the lodging house just yet. He took a deep drag from his cigarette and exhaled slowly, watching as the smoke hovered lazily in the still air before disappearing. His gaze wandered over his surroundings and a tiny smile barely turned one corner of his mouth upwards as the last bit of tension drained from him, leaving in its wake a feeling that, while not quite peace, bordered on contentment.

*NEW DAY* (FOR ZEKE) Lexi walked slowly towards Brooklyn, trying to gather her thoughts. She had been wanting to speak to Zeke for awhile now but she'd finally mustered up the courage to actually go and try to talk to him. She had a lot of things flying through her mind but at the forefront was that Zeke had been the last person too see her brother alive. She knew he'd tried to save him, but it had been impossible. She also knew that he had disappeared from New York shortly after everything happened. She couldn't help but be thankful for the fact that Dodger had asked her to step up and be leader of the girls house, it afforded her more information then she could usually come by. As Lexi turned down the street, she paused wondering if this was the best idea. She didn't know this boy and she was sure he probably had his own demons to deal with. She didn't want to upset him, but she had to know. She continue on, coming to a stop in front of the Brooklyn lodging house front door. She raised her hand and knocked lightly. Taking a deep breath she tried to calm herself. She knew what she wanted to say to this man and the time for being apprehensive had passed. She needed to do this, she knew this would help her move on.

Zeke was actually on the step smoking as he had just gotten back, teasing Smalls was normal and he took a long drag as he watched a woman come up the walk. She wasn't supposed to be here. No girl was supposed to be here, that was how he felt about things. Well, at least real girls.. like that one. He tilted his head as he watched the sway of her hips, the shameless man he was he didn't care if he shouldn't have been looking. Letting out a low whistle he leaned back.
He'd never met Lexi, though she probably knew more about who he was than he did her. When he'd taken the kids body to the lodging house he hadn't seen many people and hadn't been focusing. He'd carried a dead kid miles to take him home that was enough. Another drag followed the whistle as he smirked. "You don't look like you belong here, doll." You want me to take you home? I can do that.. want me to stay? He was still Zeke after all

Lexi pulled her hand away from the door and turned towards the man who had spoken the words. She hadn't noticed him at first and considering the shadows shrouded him she didn't fault herself too much. She narrowed her eyes slightly at being referred to as doll but she forced herself to relax. This was Brooklyn, after all, and she hadn't come here to defend herself. She had come here to find and talk to someone and she wasn't going to do that by running her mouth and offending one of it's lodgers.
Taking a deep breath, Lexi tried to study him before she spoke but the shadows hid too many of his features for him to be distinguishable. "Well, I don't live here...I was hoping to speak with someone." She paused and took a deep breath, gently gnawing on her lower lip before she spoke again. "I'm looking for Zeke."

His brow arched as he took another drag from his smoke, the shadows hid him pretty well and he moved from them as he stood, taking one more drag before tossing it into the shadows letting the embers burn. She had fire, most did, he shrugged his shoulders as he walked towards her, looking her up and down.
"You found him?" But I don't remember you, you a sister of someone I screwed over? He raised a brow before narrowed his eyes and reaching for the bottle of beer he had sitting near the door. "What do you want?"

Lexi's eyes widened when she realized she was speaking to the person she was looking for. Her throat seemed suddenly dry and she swallowed, trying to moisten it. "Well..I'm Lexi Halliway." She wasn't sure if he even knew the name of the boy he'd tried to rescue or if he even knew who she was.
She took a shaky step towards him, trying to see his face more clearly. She may have known his name but she'd never really had a face to go with it. "You....you..." She trailed off, trying to come up with the right words. She couldn't really understand why she was so tongue-tied. She'd practiced this speech multiple times but it was different being around the person she'd practiced the speech for. She swallowed again before forging on, "You found my brother."

There were not many things that could have had Zeke Cooper fidgety but the name worked. He had only known the boys name because of the brother Reid, that was all. Sot he last name had come as a shock as he looked down at the woman. It also had him taking a long drink from the bottle before he nodded at her.
What did she want? She could have her say he wasn't going to bite her head off. Granted he wasn't sure what he could really tell her. He'd tried to save her kid brother and for what? He'd done a piss poor job of it like he did most things in his life. "I'm sorry, doll.."

She continued to study him as she waited for him to speak. His facial expressions were unreadable but she'd grown up with men around her so she knew what to look for. You always studied the eyes, they were what gave a person away. Even then though, it was hard for her to distinguish one emotion for another but she could tell he knew who she was. When he spoke and apologized to her she was genuinely surprised. "Why?" She asked as she stepped closer so that she could try to better gauge his reaction.
"I came here to thank you," She broke off and looked away as she finished the sentence. Taking a deep breath she forced herself to blink back the tears that were threatening to fall before she turned her attention back to Zeke. "You did something not many other men would do. You tried to save my brother even though you didn't know him."
She reached out and gently laid her hand on his arm, "I should have done this sooner, but..." She trailed off and made sure she was looking him directly in the eye before she spoke again. She wanted him to see the gratitude that she felt rather then just hear the words. "Thank you."
She meant that sincerely, because like she said she knew there weren't a lot of people who would have risked themselves for someone they didn't know regardless of whether or not he was a boy. Lexi had been mulling over everything she knew for a few weeks now and since then she had been dying to talk to the Brooklyn boy. She wanted to first express how much she appreciated what he'd try to do for her brother and then she wanted to find out what had happened.

Thank you was the last thing he expected, the beer half way to his lips once more, it paused as she said it again only to be downed in a few swallows, watching her through dark eyes. Zeke was the kind of guy that just did things, that was his way. He reacted badly most of the time and saving her brother had just been an instinct, he wasn't even a newsie anymore. Then again most of the Brooks kids had other vocations.
Watching her for a moment he pulled his pack of smokes from his jacket pocket, moving it to his lips as he fumbled around for his matches. Watching her still, what could he say to her. "Welcome," was about all he could mutter, the look in his eyes clear that it had effected him poorly but the man was big and he didn't show is discomfort in his body other than the way his hand was almost shaking as he lit his smoke.

Lexi pulled her hand away and rubbed the back of her neck self-consciously. Maybe she shouldn't have come, maybe this was a bad idea, maybe she was making things worse for them both without meaning too. It was entirely possible and probable that he really didn't want to think or talk about that day. She took a few steps back and shifted, deciding that she shouldn't push this man she didn't even know for answers to her questions. She really didn't have the right to do that.
"Well," She started as she dropped her hand to her side and started to fidget with her skirt. All the things she had wanted to say and ask seemed so stupid now that she was standing in front of him. She figured she'd said everything she should and took a step back. "Guess I'll see you around," She gave him a smile and shrugged.
