Right off the edge is the river below. Don't go takin' a long walk off a short dock! You might just end up sleepin' with the fishes.

Avalanche was out taking a walk. it was one of those odd days where even though it was supposed to be one of the coldest months of the year, here he was walking around without a coat. Not that he was complaining, or that anyone in their right mind really would. It was just... odd. He had his sleeves of his flannel shirt rolled up to his elbows, and his hands in his pockets. His hat was perched on his head, and he was sporting a long brown pair of corduroy pants.
Now, Avalanche was known for having one of about three thought processes. The first, was of course, his concept of logic. The second was his compassion for all of his friends. And third, at times he can abandon his typical logical sense and will randomly decide to something fairly off the wall. Today, this thought process was ruling.
As Alex was sauntering down the side of the river he glanced over at the southern dock. He stared for a moment as the wheels in his head started turning. He very slowly grinned and hurried over to where the dock met the land. He smiled brighter and put a hand over his eyes. He started walking forward, slowly putting one foot in front of the other. He couldn't help but laugh a little bit until suddenly he took that very last step. "Woah!!" was all he had a moment to get out before he splashed into the water below.

Most days Lexi was either helping River at the lodging houses or working, but today was one of the few days she got to herself. Unfortunately, having nothing to do mean that her mind wandered more then it usually would. Even more unfortunate was that today her mind had decided to dwell on her younger brother. Although most of the time she was herself these days, there were the odd moments when a melancholy would fall upon her as she thought of the boy who had meant so much to her and whose life had ended far too soon.
Her head shot up when she heard a splash and she walked towards the end of the dock and gazed down into the water. Her concern was blatantly obvious on her face. It wasn't exactly warm out and she knew that water would be freezing beyond belief. When she realized it was Alex who had fallen in the water, she stooped down and held out her hand. "Hurry, before you freeze to death you silly man."
She couldn't help but smile and shake her hand. He really could catch his death in that water, but she was sure only he would end up in the water in weather like this. "You're absolutely crazy," She said as her smile faltered.

When Alex resurfaced he was delighted to come face to face with Lexi. "Well hi!" he said as he looked around and grabbed at his hat floating in the water. "I didn't expect to see you wandering around out here..." He took her hand and with her help hoisted himself out of the water. He landed himself on the dock. He had to admit, he didn't expect the water to be that cold. He didn't know why he didn't expect the water to be that cold, but he sure felt a live now that his blood was pumping after that ice bath.
He finally laid down on the dock and smiled up at Lexi. Crazy? Yeah, he might be, but he'd come to terms with that long ago. Besides all that, seeing Lexi's face was well worth the frozen water. "Hope I didn't scare ya or nothin'" he said with a small chuckle. "See..." he said as he sat up and put his elbows on his knees, "I heard people say 'take a long walk off a short pier," lots of times, but I didn't know of no one who ever done it. So, I thought I might give it a try... it's a real shock when ya can't see where ya goin' and suddenly you just fall, ya know that?" he chuckled a little bit more and smiled up at her.
"Anywho, how you been, beautiful?! Ain't seen you around much lately... though... that's life in New York huh? Keepin' warm in this usually frigged weather I hope?" he asked genuinely excited to be talking to her. He considered Lexi one of his greatest friends, second only to one other girl he knew (and it was a close second at that). He rolled his sleeves down and now something occurred to him... He should probably find a way to get warm rather quickly. Unless he were to get sick. or catch pneumonia or something.

"Well, I don't have any plans for the day so I was just taking a walk." Lexi wiped her wet hand on her skirt once Alex was lying on the dock. She honestly couldn't believe his explanation but it caused her to giggle for several moments before she caught her breath. "Really? You wanted to know what a long walk off a short pier felt like? I bet it was a jolt when you hit the water." Lexi laughed again and shook her head. Alex always managed to make her laugh no matter her mood and recently it seemed every time she saw him she was in a mood where she needed a laugh.
"I've been good. Probably better then you are at the moment," Lexi said as she motioned to his soaking clothing. "Also, much warmer." Lexi grabbed his hand and started pulling him towards the street. "Come on, you big lug, let's get you out of the cold and try to dry your clothes or find you some new ones. You can tell me how you've been on the way." She shot him a large smile as she continued to pull him along. The last thing she wanted was for her closest friend to get sick.

It seemed as though Alex didn't really have much of a choice in the matter about going some place warm. Not that he would have exactly protested anyway. He stood up and followed Alexandreia towards the street. "Hey, I dunno about that... I'm in a pretty good mood right about now! Life is a learning experience... and I just learned that I shouldn't do that again..." he glanced over his shoulder at the dock once more and laughed a little. "But... I will give ya warmer..." that was probably one hundred percent true.
"As for me?" he thought for a moment, "I've been alright," he said with a small nod. "I mean, over all, not too much has been goin' on." He thought for a moment. "I mean, still workin' at the docks, still livin' in Brooklyn, still makin' money, still taking long walks and all that," he chuckled at his long walk off a short pier again. "I mean nothin' too awful interesting has been goin' on in my world." Though he had been thinking about his own family a bit lately too, his sister Belinda and his brother Max. He wondered how they were...

Lexi giggled as she continued walking to find someplace to warm Alex up. "Well, that's a good thing. Maybe next time you want to test out a theory involving water you should do it when it's warm out." She couldn't help but poke him in the ribs a bit with her elbow as she spoke. Almost immediately she pulled her elbow back. "Sheesh you are freezing!"
"Seems we can both agree on that." Life really hadn't been that interesting in the Bronx lately. The closest thing to interesting that had happened recently was the talk she'd had to have with Emma. She still a bit peeved that it had been left to her when it was the boys who had coddled her to the point she was at. That was over with now, though, so she wasn't going to dwell on it. She noticed a pub not to far away and hoped that they had a fire going inside where Alex could get warm. "Come on, a drink would probably be a good idea. It'll warm your insides at least."

He laughed. "Eh, it's not that cold," he said shaking his head in slight denial, despite his chattering teeth and shivering body. Besides... it had been well worth it. He felt that it was entertainment for the day if nothing else. And if he got to see Lexi after, then there was no other way he would have it.
Hmm... He looked over at her, nothing interesting going on it seemed a crime these days in New York city. He looked up at the pub that they were heading towards and nodded with her in agreement. It didn't sound like such a bad idea really, warming up by the fire and having a drink. Sounded perfectly lovely in all honesty. "Alright alright, a drink then," he agreed with a grin. "perhaps we should make our own interesting things happen then huh?" he asked. "Like... how's about a race?" and with that he started hurrying towards the pub a little faster. "C'mon Lexi! See if you can catch up!" he challenged with a laugh and continued running on ahead.

Lexi shot him a skeptical look and shook her head. "Not that cold? You're teeth disagree." A grin spread across her face at his antics. She wasn't sure how he could even joke about not being cold though. She felt cold just standing next to him. When Alex took off running, Lexi laughed and gathered part of her skirt in her hand so that she could lift it and wouldn't trip over it running after him. She took off a moment later and easily caught up to him.
"Spent most of my life chasing my younger brothers, Alex." Lexi said between gasps as she ran forward toward the bar, laughing the whole time. It had been awhile since she'd raced someone. Probably not since Perry had died. Reid had grown out of that stage of his life long ago but Perry had loved being chased and usually taunted his older sister into doing it.

Avalanche laughed when Lexi came up with him in absolutely no time. She spoke of her brothers and he couldn't help but chuckle. "yeah well..." he'd been running from the cops since Prince had become his 'family,' but... he was pretty sure that Lexi had the advantage. All the same, he finished his sentence with, "I've been chasing little newsie boys around for years!" He attempted to put on a burst of speed to pass her by... but he wasn't sure that it was going to do any good.
With the wind whipping by his face, it was drying him a little, bit it was only adding cold onto the cold he was already experiencing. All the same, he kept pushing forward, despite how frozen his joints were becoming. He was highly enjoying making her smile, and run around and be happy, as he did whenever he made his friends smile. Maybe he could make things a little more interesting around here for a little bit. If even just for the afternoon. He found life was still the most interesting and he was the happiest when he was with Lexi. He almost didn't dare tell her how much he enjoyed her company. After all, she was with Dodger, who lived closer, she could see more often, and he could probably care for her better than he ever could. But it didn't keep him from making sure that Lexi was one of his best friends, and was happy whenever he was around.

Lexi laughed when he said he'd been chasing newsboys around. She had to give it to him, she'd had her hands full just chasing her brothers around. She was hardly going to start chasing all the younger ones around. Her lungs would collapse if she tried to do that. He passed her a moment later and she laughed when they reached the door to the pub. "You win," She said with a smile as she grabbed the handle of the door and pulled it open. As soon as she did, she felt the burst of warm air and grinned, knowing it wouldn't take long for Alex to warm up though it probably would take longer for him to dry off.
Lexi was extremely grateful to have run into Alex. Even if it had been because he'd done something incredibly crazy. He was the only person outside of Reid who could take her mind off of anything troubling in her life. Although she enjoyed being with Dodger, he just didn't have the same ability as Alex did. She supposed it was because she was closer with Alex. He'd been the first person she'd really met when she'd come to New York and they'd hit it off immediately. She found she didn't have to be responsible or lady-like when she was around him. He cared for her just as she was even when she was moody and sad. All he ever did was try to give her a reason to laugh or smile.

Alex sighed as they reached the door. "Yeah, but just barely..." he agreed with her. As Lexi opened the door and the warm air came through the door he smiled and stepped inside. Perhaps they'd even have food. "Alright, but winner buys drinks," he said as he glanced over at her. "Let's see if we can find somewhere warm to sit near the fire," he said as he glanced over towards the fire. "And let me buy you dinner," he said. He wasn't a request, it wasn't a suggestion, it was a requirement. He was going to buy her food, whether she liked it or not.
He headed over to a table and pulled out a chair for her to sit in before going around the table and sitting down himself. He started to unbutton his over shirt. He figured he could ring it out and maybe let it dry a little before putting it back on like it was a coat. "So... what do you want to drink?" he asked as he was already starting to warm up. Even if she wasn't in the mood for alcohol, he'd buy her coffee or hot chocolate.

As she followed him inside she couldn't help but laugh. "You're always trying to feed him. Do you want to fatten me up or something?" She questioned with a smile as she followed him towards the fireplace and took the seat at the table that he had pulled out for her. "Hmm... how about a pint." It wasn't often that she drank, but that's because she had a lot of responsibilities. And there was a time when she drank entirely too much. But she didn't have anything to do today and she had a much better grasp on control now than she had when she was younger.
"Have you ever been here before?" She doubted he had but she was trying to distract herself from the fact that he was taking off his shirt. Normally, she couldn't be bothered with such a thing but she certainly felt the heat rising around her neck telling her she was going to be visibly blushing very shortly. She didn't think about why that was and instead turned her attention towards the fireplace. Seeing the flames rise and fall took her attention off of Alex for the moment.

Alex chuckled. "No, I'm not tryin' to fatten you up," he said with a smile. "You always just look so skinny... and I know that sometimes bein' a leader can be tough... sometimes a meal bought by a friend is just what you need," he reassured her. He finally got his unbuttoned by the time. The waitress came over and gave him a smile as if to say, 'i get off in an hour.' Avalanche ignored it while he unbuttoned the buttons at his cuffs "Two pints please," he said with a good natured smile, "and a couple of menu's if you got 'em," he requested. The waitress sighed and left.
"No," he said as he looked around. "Can't say I ever been here before," he said. He took his shirt off and rung it out getting some water on the floor. "...oops," he said and then chuckled a little. He got up and walked over to the fire place. He laid his shirt down in front of it, now just wearing an undershirt of white with practically no sleeves to it. "You know this place?" he asked looking at Lexi. "You feelin' okay? You look a little warm... wanna sit farther away from the fire?" he asked.

Lexi nodded, "It can be and it is certainly nice to have a meal bought by a friend." She turned her attention towards the waitress when she approached and had to bite her lip to keep from laughing at Alex's obliviousness towards the womans looks. It was obvious the woman would more then happily take Alex back to her room. Lexi shook her head and brushed her hair back.
Her attention was brought back to Alex when he stood to walk over and lay his shirt in front of the fire. Almost immediately the blush spread and she looked down at her hands. When he questioned her and told her she looked flushed, the blush became even more heightened and she immediately began to play with a piece of hair before stopping herself. That was a nervous habit she thought she'd broken herself of. "No." She said swiftly, perhaps a bit too swiftly. "I, uh, I mean I'm fine. You need to warm up." Lexi mentally scolded herself and tried to stop the blush.
