The top of the place where you can relax... a little. But it's not all relaxation up here. This building being the height it is... sitting up here with anyone shady could result in a major injury.

NEW DAY ~ OPEN [/i][/center] Derek had one leg propped up on the ledge of the roof, his elbow resting on top of it as he gazed down at the street. It was dark out but also a full moon so he had no problem making out the people who were milling about down there. He took a drag from the cigarette dangling between his fingers. The constant chatter of the drunks and gamblers had begun to wear on his nerves so he'd come up here for some peace and quiet. It was a hard thing to come by in a place like Rac's. Not that he was complaining, all those drunks and gamblers were what lined his pocket day after day. Of course it wasn't as though he needed the money but he found he liked rarely having to dip into his own personal accounts. Rac's was a profitable business and one he was glad they'd gotten into. Even if some of the patrons made him a little mental. They weren't as bad as some of the harebrained females he'd met in the city. If it hadn't been for Luke he was sure he would've killed that one without even thinking twice about it. He knew he could be rash (slightly crazy) at times. It wasn't often that he lost his temper but when he did it was usually in a cold-blooded type of way.

Lia was far from hairbrained, though her night with Luke left much to the imagination she had always been of the mind work before pleasure. Even as she raised her head and sought out Derek, her eyes were as chilly as they ever were. As aloof as she'd always been accused of being though none of it was true. Masks were there for many reasons, she'd missed Derek that morning, trying to seek him out then giving up to the day to day enterprises she took care of.
She was just the type that got his temper rolling, but they'd known each other long enough it didn't matter. She removed her gloves when she got to the roof, "You missed our meeting this morning, though I assume you had something better to do." She wasn't angry about being stood up. Things came up she knew that but she would have liked a note. That was just good manners. Moving more onto the roof she sat down on an upturned crate and pulled out a snifter of whiskey and a smoke, turning her eyes to the stars.
"I hope it was enjoyable," she replied as she lit her smoke, she smoked once a day. Normally at night. She glanced at him and tilted her head. Peace and quiet was what he was after then-- she would give it to him after business was finished. "Luke and I went and had dinner at the Waldorf, we didn't learn as much as we would have liked. You know, scandal and mayhem. But the Governer's Ball is coming soon, I am sure that Madeline can get some tickets." Madeline was the woman she pretended to be in the higher circles, the woman of high standings, she stared at the stars for a moment and got lost in thought.
Things changed in a minute didn't they? She and Luke had, or maybe they always had been. Taking a drag from her smoke she let out a slow breath and offered him the flask, tilting her head as she looked out over the city. Was a great view from up here.

Derek didn't bother to check who had come up onto the roof. He figured it was either Lia or Finn looking for him and he knew no one outside of the gang had access to the roof. His eyes narrowed a bit at her words and he tilted his head in her direction as he quirked an eyebrow. He stayed silent, though, not wanting to enter an argument with her. Where he had been this morning and what he'd been doing was his business. He'd had to settle a few personal affairs and it didn't concern Amelia or any of the others. "That sounds like an idea," Derek replied before taking a drag of his cigarette.
Although Derek still had connections in those circles, he rarely used them when it came to the activities of Five Points. He preferred to stay in the background so he couldn't be directly linked to anything. It had been that way with him as long as he'd been a part of the gang. He didn't mind being involved in their schemes and plotting but so long as they were in New York City around people who'd known him as a child he liked distancing himself a bit. It was safer that way for himself and the others. Plus, there were too many people who could disclose information about him to the others that he preferred they didn't know.
"You and Luke going to attend?" They were the two that were best suited for a job like that. Well, them and Finn, but the others were much too gritty to be able to pass themselves off as upper class at the Governor's Ball. Killian for example wouldn't be caught dead in a tux or have the proper manners to fit in with a group like that.
