She was tired of selling, yes she had managed to just barely get rid of all her papes but today it had been a challenge, the headline had sucked but she has made it work for her as best as she could by twisting the titles and the truth a little. She had a small amount of change in her pocket now, enough to buy her papes for tomorrow and just enough to get something to eat before she would head back to the lodge house. She walked into Romano's and nodded to anyone she knew before she slid into the window booth and allowed her eyes to drift toward the window as she looked out it. The waitress cleared her throat and that was when Cherry snapped out of her slight daze and turned to face the lady. "Oh a coke and a slice of cheese pizza please," Cherry asked as the waitress scribbled it down and then walked away.
She removed her cap from her head and set the hat down on the table before she ran her fingers through her red hair and let her eyes dance back to the window. She leaned back in her seat and crossed her legs and when the waitress brought her drink she reached over for it, her eyes still gazing out the window as she brought it to her lips and took a sip before setting the glass back on the table and running her pointer finger along the brim of the glass as it made a slight ringing sound, but it was soft so it did not seem to bother anyone around her.

He'd hit it pretty well today. His cards had been nice to him, and his bets at track had taken off, so to speak. He had a good deal of money in his pocket, a brighter look on the day, and now after all that fast talking and swindling, h needed some food. This looked as good as any other place to eat, so he slid inside, took a look around and grinned. There was a pretty looking girl in a booth nearby and he figured that she'd be pretty fun to talk to.
Maybe she'd even play a round of cards with him. "That's quite a talent you've got there." He held up his hand to the waitress and ordered his own coke and pizza, even added a second piece for the girl. She might as well have a little more to eat. "Bit of a hard day?" He pulled out the stack of cards from his pocket and just shuffled them on the table, waiting for his drink.

Cherry heard a voice directed to her and his comment of the "talent" she had to make the glass sing made her chuckle,"Well I wouldn't call it talent but if you say so then I suppose it is," she said as she pulled her eyes from the window and watched as the boy pulled out a deck of cards and sat across from her. She tilted her head and sized him up, she'd seen him around the Lodge house here and there but Cherry even though spending 4 years in Queens as a newsie, never really made many friends. She smiled at him and pointed to the cards,"Yer the one who is extremely good at cards aren't you? I mean I's seen ya round da lodge house here and there, ummm you go by Christian or Blackjack if i recall correctly," she asked him.
She took another sip of her drink and grinned before pulling it from her lips again,"Can we play?" she asked him as she looked up trying to lock eyes with him, he was quite cute and she liked people who had hobbies they were good at.

"It's a talent like any other." He looked up at her over his cards and just paused when the waitress brought his own drink over. Quickly he took a sip and then looked up to meet her eyes. "Yep. That's me. The one and only BlackJack." He fanned the cards out at the table and nodded his head. "I don't hang around too much. But it's good to grab a bite here and there. Figured I'd stop in and see if there was anyone willing to try their luck against me." He hadn't really paid too much attention to everyone else so far.
Christian just nodded his head again and spread the cards out, slipping them into a shuffle once more. "What would you like to play? A rousing round of fish?" He sent her a grin and turned towards the waitress. "Where's the pizza we're waiting over here!" Sometimes staff really were too damn slow. But what could he do about it? There wasn't a known way to light a fire under them. At least. Not yet. "Whats your name, sweetheart?"

She chuckled as he tried to rush the waitress and she watched the waitress stumble and head toward the kitchen to retrieve their food. "Well I like your attitude so far, and yeah Fish sounds good, I'm not so good at cards but I will try my best," she said as she took another drink and then set her glass back down before resting her elbows on the tabletop and leaning forward. She grinned and allowed her eyes to dance abit as she looked him over again and bit her bottom lip."My name is Cherry, I bet you can guess why," she said with a giggle as she toyed with a strand of her hair before pushing it behind her ear.
When the waitress came with their plates she looked down at her slice of cheese pizza and smiled as she picked it up in one hand and folded it in half before she took a bite and smiled in delight at the taste. She looked at him and swallowed,"So do you tend to win alot when you play otha people?" she asked him in curiosity as she took another bite of her pizza and purred at the taste.

"That wild mane of red hair, perhaps?" He knew that the waitress was doing her best, and he hadn't meant to completely snap, but he did want his food. He could also guess why her nickname was Cherry. It was pretty obvious actually. "Your best is all I can ask for. Fish is pretty easy. You get a few cards passed out to you and then you ask if I have any of the numbers that you do." He wasn't sure if she had ever played before. But he'd explain it all anyway.
The waitress had obviously paid some attention to his order. She brought out his two slices of pizza and gave him a tentative little smile before heading away with a murmur of 'call if you need anything else'. "Yep. It's how I make my money most of the time. My dad taught me. Only good thing he ever did for me." He slid the second slice of pizza over to her side of the table and took another sip of his soda.

She looked at the slice of pizza he pushed toward her and she tilted her head as she took a few more bites of the piece she had ordered,"Ya tryin ta fatten meh up or somethin?" she teased before she had finished her slice of pizza and she hesitantly pulled the piece he ordered for her toward her. She took a drink of her coke and figured she would wait a few minutes before starting in on her second piece. She nodded as he explained the card game,"Sounds like a good game, deal," she said as she watched him and she watched the cards in his hands.
She tilted her head back for a moment and glanced out the window before she looked back to him and picked up the second piece of pizza and brought it to her lips taking a bite before she put it back on the plate,"Thank you fer da pizza... I'm starvin," she muttered as she smiled at him and awaited him to deal the cards so they could play.

Christian just chuckled and shook his head at the girl across from him. "I figured that you could use another piece after your long day." He nodded his head at her and just finished shuffling the cards on the table. He did it once more for good measure and just delt out five cards to her, five to himself and then placed the rest of them face down on the table. "Alright. Go ahead and ask if I've got a number then."
He finally took a bite of his own piece of pizza. After a moment he washed it away with his coke. "If I don't have the card you want, then I'll say fish. That means you've got to pick from the pile in the middle. Object is to have the most pairs." He hadn't played this game in a while. Wasn't good for swindling, great for a quick conversation starter, or something to pass the time with. Especially for someone that didn't play often. "You're welcome for the pizza. It's my pleasure."

She nodded and looked her cards over,"Do you have a 7?" she asked him as she bit her bottom lip and ran her hand that didn't hold her cards through her hair. She wondered what was on this boys mind other than cards. "So umm we should talk bout somethin while we play huh?" she suggested as she waited for him to answer whether he had the card she needed or not. She took another sip of her coke and then rested her elbows on the table and tried to read his eyes slightly."Maybe ask each otheh questions too while we play, ya know get ta know each otheh a tad bit betteh?" she suggested as she nodded abit at her own words.
(GAH sorry its short...)

Christian just checked over his cards for a moment, considering. "Yep." He held out the card to her and just smiled. "Not too bad." He took a sip of his drink and just gave her a little grin. "You got the number so you get to go again." That was part of the game. You get it, you go a second time, you miss it, you pick up the card. There was a lot on his mind generally, it was just a matter of how much did it take to get it off his mind. Sometimes he was a little too tough for even a master to crack.
"I can handle that." He murmured, taking a bite of his pizza. "Alright then Cherry, what's your favorite color, food, and drink?" He'd play her question game, besides he had plenty of time to do so. It wasn't like he was rushing off to someplace anytime soon. He'd done most of his winning for the day, which meant he could take it easy for a couple of hours. Post up here, watch the sun, play some cards and get to know someone new. That didn't sound too bad, right?

Cherry smiled when he handed her the card and she chewed the inside of her cheek for a moment in thought as she glanced at her cards,"Ummm have any 3s?" she asked as she finally finished up her food and she downed the rest of her coke and the waitress came to refill her glass. She smiled at his question and she thought again for a few moments,"Well my favorite color is bright green or baby blue, my favorite drink is probably scotch if I were to go with alcoholic choice and my favorite food is umm... french fries probably" she said wondering if that sounded awkward to have your favorite food be a side item. She shrugged abit and looked at him as she skimmed her teeth across her bottom lip,"Ok my turn to ask you something, so I'll start with, where are you from?" she asked curious to know more about him, he seemed like a fairly decent guy so far and he definately was enjoyable to be around thus far.
