Piper loved the rain. She would dance in the rain when she was a little girl with her older brother, though they got in trouble countless times from their parents. The rain reminded her of her parents, but in a positve way, in a cheery way. She loved that feeling, having the rin hit her in the face and washing away the pain she held.
Piper had her hair down that day so she let the rain soak her red locks and hit her freckled skin as she walked across to fifth avenue and saw a couple of Newsie girls in the rain as well. One seemed alright with it while the other hated it. She joined them and smiled.
"Anyplace where we can keep wamr from this weather?" Piper asked over the sound of rain to the girls.

Mabel rounded a street corner at top speed, head lowered to avoid the unusually angry raindrops that threatened her eyes. Eyes locked to the pavement, Mabel didn't notice the figure in her path and with a most glorious crash went sprawling over the curb of the sidewalk.
Knees and palms scraped, Mabel huffed and groaned and pitched a very brief fit. Staggering to her feet she turned sharply to whoever it was she had collided with, "DO YOU MI-" Mabel's shrieking abruptly ceased. After all, it had been her who had run into this stranger and not the other way around.
Mabel shifted about awkwardly, arms crossed tightly across her chest. "Are you alright?"
Just then they were approached by another girl. Mabel glanced between the two strangers, still quite out of breath. Unlike Mabel, this girl seemed quite content in the downpour.
"What?" Mabel called back, not quite catching what Piper had said over a frightening clap of thunder. "I'm trying to get back to the Manhattan lodging house-... I think I'm lost."

"You're looking for the lodging house, too?!" Quip exclaimed, looking from one girl to the other. "I'm looking to become a newsie for Manhattan but I can't find the place in this," she said bitterly, motioning the rain the continued to fall around them.
"So..." she turned to Piper. "Are you from Manhattan, or are you from somewhere else?" Rain never made her the most friendly.

"I'm from Manhattan myself, I'll take you over there so you can get a roof over your head. No place for us in a pour like this and catch a cold." Piper replied back to her in her Scottish and Manhattan accent. She grinned and pushed her red damp hair out of her green eyes. She looked at the other girl and grinned.
"The name's Piper." PIper introduced herself, though it may not be a good time to introduce herself in pouring rain.

Yes, shelter would be a good. Preferably a warm shelter.
Mabel nodded politely, "How do you do. I'm Mabel Fitzpatrick and-" She bit her tongue. Now was no time for niceties, "And I think we best get going before we freeze."
Another clap of thunder caused Mabel to cringe and flinch. Soaked to the bone, Mabel internally fretted over ever ailment she could possibly contract. As her father would say, Mabel was a sensitive plant who was prone to complain of feeling ill at the drop of a hat.
She glanced at Piper, "Lead the way?"

"ALright, let's go then." Piper replied to Mabel and she started walking down the street to the Lodging House. She wrapped her jacket around her tightly and looked to see if she was following her. The alst thing she needs is Mabel getting lost in Manhattan in pouring rain.
"So, you gonna be a Newsie eh?" PIper asked as she walked, trying to have a some-what good conversation with Mabel as well as keeping warm from the rain on them.

Mabel followed close on Piper's heels, glancing over her shoulder to see if the other girl had followed.
Sloshing through puddle upon puddle, Mabel was sure her shoes were going to fall completely apart. The laces were already frayed.
Realizing Piper had spoken, Mabel glanced up. "Pardon? Oh- well, actually, I've been at the lodging house for a week or so now." She felt her face flush with embarrassment, "I've just yet to figure out Manhattan... I'm new to the city."
So Mabel was a bit on the incompetent side. Oh well. It didn't matter. This was all very temporary, anyway.
Mabel's embarrassment only increased upon realizing the Piper was a Manhattan newsie and Mabel had never seen nor spoken to her. Truth be told, she hadn't really spoken to any of the newsies. The lodging house was for sleeping only. Mabel didn't see the point in making friendships that wouldn't last.
"How long have you been at the lodging house?" Conversation would keep her mind of how unbearably miserable their circumstances were.

"Couple of years. I had to work there to get cash for me and my brother. He works down at the docks. I like the Lodging House, very nice place to be." Piper replied in a smiled as they turned the corner, "Though some of the guys and gals there are a bit shaddy. As long as you do your work and not get in any trouble, you're gonna be okay."

Quip was thoroughly soaked now, and shivering. Her thin frame shook as she listened to the conversation between Piper and Mabel. As they began to walk away, she followed, still not saying anything. They were going somewhere, probably the Manhattan Lodging House, if Piper and Mabel both came from there.
A clap of thunder made her jump. She really hoped they would get there soon, because if the rain kept up they were likely to get sick.
[[Sorry for not replying for such a long time. Stuff's been going on.]]

"Though some of the guys and gals there are a bit shaddy. As long as you do your work and not get in any trouble, you're gonna be okay."
Mabel nodded. Half the people at the lodging house made her uncomfortable while the rest she avoided just the same. Mabel had a penchant for making very bad first impressions and she most certainly wouldn't be able to hold her own in a fight.
The conversation lulled soon there after and Mabel was quite content to continue on in silence. Piper seemed friendly enough and Mabel didn't want to risk snapping at her. Mabel often took her own misfortunes out on others.
The other girl had yet to say much and Mabel wasn't much for prying.
(Should we take this to the lodging house? :])

[New Day]
Sweets sat down on one of the various wrought iron benches found along the sidewalks of fifth avenue. The day was getting warmer by the minute, and she still had over half her stack to sell. Having been selling much more in the past few weeks, this sudden downturn in business was a bit discouraging. She decided she would just take a short break and get back to selling in a minute. or two...

(New Day)
Milo walked down Fifth Avenue swinging his papers by his side. He hadn't ever sold here before, he usually stuck to parks and the fronts of businesses but with the price hike he had decided to try the wealthier neighborhoods in hopes that he would get larger tips from the bleeding heart society ladies that lived there. So far, it had been going pretty well. He had just gotten there and he had already sold to three people, one which had been an old lady who had give him a whole quarter when he had told her that he hadn't eaten in days. 'I should do dis more often' he thought, sitting down on a nearby stoop.

"Theif" is what the cops had called her sence.... forever. Dice sprinted out running away from the cop and past Milo..Dice ran a couple of more feet till she had lost the cop. When Dice was shure that the cop had left she turned around and walked over to Milo and sat next to him.

Milo saw the girl as she turned the corner, ran down the street past him , then abruptly stopped and sat down on the stoop next to him. He turned to look at the girl and observed her wordlessly for a few minutes before piping up in a small voice "ya lost 'em?" he asked, fairly sure that she had been running from someone. He had been observing people for a long time and they hardly ever ran if it wasn't either away from something that was chasing them or towards something that they were chasing and if she were chasing someone she wouldn't have stopped doing so just to sit down next to him on a stoop for a few minutes.

"ya lost 'em?"
"Yeah i guess i did." Smiled Dice. It was always wonderful for Dice to loose a cop it was like victory for her. Dice bit into her apple that she had been holding.
