Fifth Avenue is a symbol of wealthy New York. Newsies who sell here ought to be looking their finest if they want any business.

"Thank you, sir," Nuke said with a smile as she took the coin from the man. He stood from the chair and tipped his hat before leaving. Nuke sighed as she gathered her shoe shining equipment. Usually, she sold papers in the Bronx, but on slow days she would hitch a ride on the back of a wagon to Manhattan to shine shoes.
She wiped her sweating forehead with the cloth she had used, unknowingly wiping a smudge onto her forehead. It was early afternoon, and already sizzling. She sat down in the costumer's chair, counting her money, waiting for her next costumer.

Blake made his way through midtown eating an apple when he saw a shoeshine girl. He smirked and headed over taking a seat in one of the chairs. "Shine me miss"he said taking another bite of the apple.

Nuke stood arose from her seat, taking the rag from her back pocket. She tied up her hair so it wouldn't fall in her face and began working.
She worked in silence for a while before looking up at him. She grabbed the bottle of polish asking, "You from around here?"

She allowed herself to be pulled up, standing when he moved her. "Yuki, but my friends call me Nuke or at least they would if I had any. It's short for my last name, Nukima." She smiled. "And no. I live in the Bronx, but come here occasionally." She stuffed her rag back into her back pocket. "What about you? You're name, I mean?"
Nuke had to admit, he was pretty attractive and his smile made her also smile. But she avoided looking at him straight. She was a little hesitant to look at people who saw her for the first time because of her abnormal eye color.

Nuke shrugged. "I don't get out too much." She looked around the area. I t didn't look like there was much of anyone around for her to clean their shoes so she figured she was done for the day. She looked up at him, grinning a bit. "Yeah, sure."

[New Day]
The day was overcast with heavy clouds, the air thick but cool as Bottle Cap's long fiery hair blew about her gently. Business men and finely dressed women walked to and fro over the cobbled streets, carraiges rolling by importantly. The crowd seemed thick, people in a hurry to get indoors before the sky broke and let down the rain it currently held. Perfect weather, as far as Bottle Cap Murphy was concerned.
She flitted through the streets, weaving between passersby as gracefully as a butterfly as her fingers nimbly dipped into pockets here and there, then shifted her earnings into her battered messanger bag without pause as it hung right at her hip. It was rare that she was caught at her profession these days, having been perfecting it from near infancy. The rush of adrenaline it offered was what kept her alive; vibrant.
Thunder rolled threateningly and the first large drop of rain fell and it seemed people scattered from where it hit like it was a bomb, and soon the rain was coming heavily and large black unbrellas were opening. Bottle Cap took her time shifting out of the bustle of those eager not to wet their clothing and hair, ducking under an awning and leaning herself casually against the building.
She loved nothing more than the sound and scent of a good thunderstorm.

Nuke walked along the street covering her head with a soaking piece of cardboard, her only shelter from the rain. Needless to say, it wasn't much help. Her hair and clothes were soaked and she began to shiver. No one would let her in to their store because of how wet she was. She saw a girl sitting under the awning of a store. Throwing the box down, she walked over and sat under with her.

Leaning her head back gently against the wall, Bottle Cap's gaze was directed out toward the streets being flooded by the sudden gusto of rain and wind. A cool mist was blowing under the awning, but it was nothing to fret over. A girl joined her, not speaking and BC glanced over briefly before looking back in her chosen direction.
"Hey." She greeted calmly, somewhat glad to have some company though she would have been content with none.

"Hey," Nuke replied a little out of breath. She wrong out her hair, the water falling onto the concrete. She wiped off her hands on her wet shirt hoping to dry them some. She looked down at her hands. They were red and wrinkly. She pulled her knees in closer to her chest. "This rain is really something."
