Lexi let herself be wrapped in a hug by Avalanche but refused to fully relax within it. She knew if she did there would be no stopping the tears from coming. "That's all I've been doing....combing the Bronx and Brooklyn. I can't find him anywhere....but someone saw him before he went missing. A girl in Brooklyn..Smalls." Lexi spoke very quietly, so quietly in fact that Avalanche was likely the only one who heard her. Pulling back from his embrace, she wrapped he arms around herself. It felt nice to be comforted but she knew if she let it go on to long she would fall to pieces and that would be of no help to her brother.
Glancing at Dutchy, she nodded her head. "I have a drawing someone did back in Jersey City, but it isn't the best. Maybe if I describe to you what has changed you could draw a better one?" Lexi was so grateful for the offer that she nearly hugged him as well, but she restrained herself. She would find it odd if a stranger hugged her so she wasn't going to hug a stranger.

Avalanche didn't want to let her go, but he figured that if she wanted to avoid crying... well he'd let her. He still felt sorry for those who had missing loved ones. He stood with his hands on his hips and looked between the two of them. At the mention of maybe making a drawing, Avalanche smiled at Dutchy, a silent thank you, so as not to interrupt their conversation.
He heard what she said about Smalls. And made a mental note. He'd hafta go talk to her, maybe later. He thought maybe she might know something. Never know, it could happen. He smiled still at the two of them, happy that some progress was being made.

Dutchy exchanged a small smile with Avalanche. As Avalanche stood, Dutchy exchanged seats with him, taking a seat beside Lexi and pulling his small notebook from his back pocket and nub of a pencil. He used it to write down ideas and draw a bit. He'd write down what Lexi told him, draw a bit for her to make sure it was right, but mostly listen and be patient.

Lexi pulled the drawing out from a pocket she'd sewn in her skirt and unfolded it holding it out to Dutchy. She looked at it and smiled at her brothers innocent face staring up at her. "He's a bit taller now..." Holding her hand up to her side, Lexi tried to show Dutchy how tall her brother was.
"His hair hasn't really changed much, other than it's a bit longer. I was going to cut it the day..." Lexi trailed off and shook her head slightly before continuing. "His face is a little thinner now to." Lexi stared at the drawing, glad she'd have a better one to show people while asking if they'd seen her brother. "Thank you so much, Dutchy."

Avalanche looked over their shoulders and watched the picture be drawn. "Cute kid," he said trying to be supportive. As he stood there he continued thinking about where the kids could be, and why there were gone. Perhaps the fact that it was all younger kids. He looked between the two of them and sighed a little. If nothing else it seemed to pull the newsies together. It was kinda nice. He got to thinking about it. He wondered if dutchy could draw other kids too. And he was sure that there were some other artists. People who'd be good with words and they could make posters. they could use the talents of different people. He'd think on that more.

Lexi looked up when Dutchy finished the drawing and nodded to Avalanche, "He really is." Smiling fondly, she thought of how much he resembled their mother. Gods how she missed her mom, she wished she didn't have to shoulder this responsibility.

((New Day)) Skitts knew a lot of things, but at that moment he didn't know he was supposed to be in the lodging house. He didn't care to much either, he hadn't been around in a few days and even if he'd know about the pairs rule-- he'd probably have ignored it. If something bad can happen, it will. That's how he saw it and if anyone tried to tell him different they had to be stupid or something. Taking a drag from his smoke he removed his cap and ran the back of his hand over his forehead. It was to damn hot, the sun was to hot today. Raising a brow he looked up at the sun and silently cursed it.

*NEW DAY*
The water seemed to sparkle all the time as it hit the sand and pulled back into the big ocean. Poet's eyes followed this action of the water repeatedly as if in a daze. She really didn't remember how she got to the beach, or why but she was there now so she didn't care. She sat on the sand, her black cap at her side, her light waves of hair blowing in the light breeze. She finally pulled her gaze away from the water and up to the sky as the sun lower slightly, it was probably about 4pm, maybe 5, and she knew she would have to walk all the way back to the lodging house. She sighed softly as she dropped her knees that she had been hugging to her chest and she grabbed a small journal from beside her. She had gotten rid of her last pape about an hour ago and just didn't feel like being surrounded by people. She looked down at the journal as she held it in her hands, debating on whether to read, write or just put it back down. She flipped it open turning a few pages, dates marked in the top right hand corner, dates from her past, some she'd rather forget. For once the normal smile that she hid behind was gone as she sat there, she figured why lie to herself, she was the only one around anyway, there was nobody she had to make think she was happy right now. She stared blankly at one page reading it a few times before closing the journal and just sitting there holding it in her hands. She was half tempted to chuck it into the ocean and let it wash away her memories, but what good would it do, it could destroy the book but nothing could ever make her forget.

Since Race had ended up near the Bronx after selling anyway, he'd decided to spend some time with Stretch, a Bronx friend of his whom he hadn't seen in a while. After Stretch announced he had to go, Race decided to take the scenic route back to Manhattan. He had never had much of a pull toward the beach--didn't think it was a particularly pretty area or anything. But it was better than streets and building for a half hour straight.
As he passed, he saw a girl--sulking, it looked like--near where the tide from the Long Island Sound met the land. Despite his best attempts, Racetrack found himself staring at her as he passed. He hoped she wouldn't notice. That was the last thing he needed.

Hearing footsteps in the sand, Poet looked up, great she wasn't alone. She plastered on that usual smile of hers, she was pretty good at it she'd been faking happy most her life. She looked over her shoulder and saw a boy, he looked familiar he had to be from Manhattan right? She'd seen him around who knows how many times but never really introduced herself. Of course she had heard his name thrown around by all the others at the lodging house, Raetrack. She tilted her head and met his eyes with hers,"What ya starin at?"she asked, not in a tone that most others would use, but in a rather happy, kind of curiousity playing it off as if she didn't know he was staring at her. She put looked him up and down for a moment as she thought and spoke again she'd figure if she asked his name to be sure that he may notice that she was in the same borrough as him,"Yer umm Race right?"she asked playing dumb slightly, she knew it was him, she just didn't formally know him so it was the polite thing to say wasn't it?

"What ya starin at?"
Race looked at her, suddenly indignant. "Don't flatter y'self..." he muttered. "I was lookin' to see if I could see the mainland..."
"Yer umm Race right?"
"I know who I am," Race said sharply, "but who the hell are you?" Her face was vaguely familiar; Race figured that either he'd known her a long time ago, which was unlikely, or that he had seen her recently and not paid much attention to her.

A small sigh escaped her lips as she stood and brushed herself off before picking up her cap and placing it on her head and grabbing the journal. She turned to face him and tilted her head,"Well I'm Poet, we're in da same borrough,"she said as she pulled out a cigarette and brought it to her lips before lighting it and taking a drag. She looked down kicking the sand slightly she wasn't going to push any of a conversation if he was one of those guys who didn't like talking or even really meeting new people, but she didn't know enough about him to determine so even if he gave off a vibe that he didn't really give a rats ass. She looked up as she blew a smoke ring and wondered if he was going to say anything.
