About three blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge is Cherry street, named so because the area used to be covered in cherry trees, but now it's city and this road. Be careful though, you never know when a pirate could sail up the river and rob you blind!

Gimmick walked down Cherry street. SHe had been looking for a better place to sell since all the other good places seemed to be taken. "Extra Extra dead body found in river!" she smirked making up what she thought to be an exciting headline.

Walking down Cherry street, Swing Dance had been searching for a good place to sell as well, and noticed that someone else had beat her to it.
'Being a new newsie ain't gonna be dat easy...'Specialy not with more experienced newsies selling on the same street as me.' Swing's thought hopelessly.
She called out, "Extra Extra! Streaker found on family window sill!" When the headline really said, 'family unable to replaced streaked window sill'.

((New Day)) Giselle was ambling down Cherry Street, taking yet another one of her frequent trips outside of Queens. She still knew virtually no one, though she had met a few people... but she didn't mind the solitude. Sure, she got lonely sometimes, but the city was so full of people that you never really felt alone on the streets. However whenever she got home to her apartment she always felt the lonely pang and eventually made a point to stay as far away from her misreable empty apartment for as long as possible.

((New Day....sorry, Giselle!))
Swifty sold his last paper to an older man and his granddaughter, who were walking hand in hand towards the Brooklyn Bridge. He eyed the pair happily, remembering his father, who had always taught him all he needed to know about life and the world. He had worked him hard, but it had prepared Swifty for his life as a newsboy. He began to walk down Cherry Street, with the idea that he would be at Tibby's soon.
It was a quiet, lonely and dull walk for somebody who didn't quite understand the English being spoken around him.

Buckles was sitting on the curb, her chin in her hands. She looked around at Cherry Street and sighed. She had finnished selling for the day, earlier than usual and now had nothing to do. It was while she was she was looking around that she saw the other figgure walking down the street. She recognised him as a newsie and not an intimidating one at that and decided to go talk to the guy, after all it was better than sitting on a curb all day. She stood up and brushed her grey skirt down before walking over to him
"hey" she started "how you goin'?" she asked with a genuine smile.

Swifty stopped at the greeting, instantly noticing the girl speaking to him. He smiled at her timidly and tried to piece together what she had said to him. "Well," he finally answered her, recognizing the phrase as something his fellow newsies often said. "How are you?" he replied, remembering the phrase that often followed an answer.
He decided that he would see how long he could hold a conversation without her noticing his lack of knowledge in the English language.

She smiled at his reply "I'm pretty well myself, although very bored as I finnished selling earlier than anticipated and now have nothing to do" she smiled again picking at the cuff on her left sleeve "you've finnished selling I take it"

Swifty knew he had only caught about half of what the girl had told him, but still understood what she had basically meant. He answered as best he could: "Yes, I have. I am going to the Lodging House. You are not from Manhattan, yes?" Swifty didn't think he had seen this girl before.

she smiled and nodded, slightly catching on that the boy had not completley understood her, however not wanting to ask and sound rude she carried on the conversation "you're right, I'm from Queens" she paused before asking "are you originaly from New York?" she asked with a smile trying to find out more about this boy.

The only word that Swifty had not understood in the girl's question was "originally." He knew he had heard the word before, but didn't quite know what it meant. "I am from New York..." he guessed, and then continued. "I'm am from China." He knew that the girl had already figured out his language barrier.

Buckles smiled before continuing "China, how wonderful, I have always wanted to go there" she paused before asking another question "when did you come to New York?" she questioned

He was a little confused, but Swifty answered as best as he could. "I...I move here two years ago." He considered this. "Almost two years, I think. I'm too old to learn well...the language, English," he then admitted. "Are you from New York...originally?"

Buckles smiled at this "I'm originaly from Scotland" she smiled at the mention of her homeland. She paused before starting again "and you're never too old to learn a new language" she said smiling warmly at him "besides, I'm sure there is a book somewhere in this city that helps you learn" she paused forming a plan in her head "I would love to help if you would let me"

Swifty raised an eyebrow. He had understood what the girl had told him quite well. She wanted to help him learn English. It was a wonderful offer, but he was still a little cynical. "Thank you," he said to her, his brow resting, "But...I would not make you to do that." He looked somewhat apologetic.
