"No. I was going to go to the job my brother had lined up, but..." she sighed. "What am I going to do!!" she through her hat on the ground. Her long wavy red hair fell to her shoulders, and she throughly stomped on the beaten brown cap.

Alanna folded her arms around her books, not even a bit disturbed by the outburst. "Don't worry, chere. Things aren't always as bad as you think they are--" she looked over her shoulder and nodded her head down the docks. "You can always come with me, I know a place and I'll take you to Dodger. Can you read?"

Sariah stopped in mid stomp, and blinked a bit. "What?" she was once again toppled. "Yeah! A bit." she quickly snapped to her wits.

"Well then if you can read a bit, then you can make up the rest," she said with a smile, waving her hand over her shoulder. "Come on, lets go.." she turned around and started walking, she paused and smiled over her shoulder. "Come on Sariah, you don't want to be out here alone at night..." Alanna normally wasn't, it was dusk now.

Sariah quickly picked up her cap and jogged up to were Alanna was. She all of a sudden wasn't worried. She definably felt that she found a trust worthy friend.

*New Day*
Why was it that Bella almost always ended up in the Bronx? She lived in Midtown, so why was she in the Bronx today? She didn't bring any of her artwork with her, or any of her supplies so she could work on her artwork. She just wanted a day to relax, and let everything just fall off of her back. Rivers were relaxing, right? Maybe that's why she came here, the Bronx had the Harlem river, one of her favorite places where she could just sit and think.
She walked up to the northern docks, and sat down on one. She looked around to make sure no one was watching her, and that no one would see her. She shivered from the cool breeze from the river, and from her thoughts. She prayed that her uncle, Edward, wouldn't find her. She finally had the freedom she longed for. Freedom was taken for granted nowadays, she saw kids who wished they had a home and a family. She wanted a home and a family as well. She had a house, and a biological mother and father, but they weren't even close to being a family to her.
Bella wondered why again was she out in the middle of the day, near a river. There were so many things Bella didn't know about herself. Such as why was she so stubborn? Or, why did she just not get along with people very well? She blamed Edward. It was his fault, he was the one who made her become crazy. He was the one who made her feel paranoid all of the time. As crazy as it sounds, she missed herself. She missed being herself, but she had no other choice. Edward ruined her.
Bella reached into the pocket of her skirt, and counted how much money she had. Fifty cents, not alot, but its better that none. She sighed, life wasn't going very well for her. At least she had freedom, that's what she kept reminding herself. At least she was free...

"Look out below!" Jem screamed as he raced by Bella and leapt into the water.
A moment later he was under the water and floating free as a bird in the sky. He finally came up for air, which he took in with a large gasp, and shook out his short blonde hair. He opened his sparkling blue eyes and smiled at Bella. "Hi there," he said in a bright and chipper voice. "I hope I didn't get you wet," he said as he blinked trying to get the salt water out of his eyes.
He was small, and it was noticeable. He couldn't have been more than eight years old, which was exactly how old he was. It was a hot day, so he had decided that he wanted to go swimming! He was going to go with some boys, but they ran off to Brooklyn, and a lot of the older Queens kids said to never go to Brooklyn without people with you. And since he was so small he got left behind. Still having the desire to swim he was now floating in the Harlem River looking up at a fairly pretty young lady, and hoping he hadn't soaked her... literally.

"Look out below!"
Bella whipped around as she saw someone race past her and jump into the water, a large splash followed. She didn't mind getting wet, it was just when she didn't have any other clothes to wear, that's when she didn't like it. Fortunately she was only sprayed with water, and wasn't soaking wet. She shook her head, and fluffed her hair, just to get the water off of it.
Hi there, I hope I didn't get you wet,"
"Hi," She said with a smile, the boy seemed young; maybe eight or nine."No, you didn't. I just got sprayed, but I guess that's my own fault for sitting by a river, huh?" She said. She couldn't be mad at someone just for getting her drizzled with water. Besides, boys would be boys. It was a hot day outside, and she couldn't blame him for swimming. She would've already been swimming, but what she was wearing were the only clothes she had that didn't have holes in them. Bella wanted to look somewhat decent for living on the streets.
"Its a nice day to go swimming, isn't it?" She asked, trying to make small talk. She longed for conversations with other people. The cats in the alley were nice to talk to sometimes, but they couldn't talk back. So it was basically her talking to a wall that meowed occasionally and ate her hair.

No, you didn't. I just got sprayed, but I guess that's my own fault for sitting by a river, huh?"
Jem laughed which made his eyes sparkle with life even more. "Uh-huh!" he said with a bright smile. "I'm glad I only got you a little wet. And on a day like today... getting a little wet would feel good I bet," he said nodding.
"Its a nice day to go swimming, isn't it?"
"Oh yes it is," he said kicking his feet up to lay on his back, careful not to splash her with water more than he already had. "It's so hot outside, I dunno what I'd do if I couldn't go swimming... probably find a fire hydrant and see if I could get it open," he said with a smile.
"It's so hot out, why aren't you swimming? The water is great! It's not cold like ice, or boiling either, it's perfect tempe... temere... it's nice!" he said laughing a little. He didn't know who this lady was, and didn't care all that much. She looked rather harmless, and since he wasn't anything that even resembled a threat, he hoped she would stay and talked to him. It'd been a while since anyone had talken to him just for conversation. He was too young to understand stuff, they told him.

"Uh-huh! I'm glad I only got you a little wet. And on a day like today... getting a little wet would feel good I bet,"
Bella smiled at his boy-like enthusiasm, its been so long since she had seen someone so happy. She was thankful for the young ones in the world who taught her not to be so serious. That was her problem, she took things way too seriously. She couldn't allow herself to have fun anymore.
"It's so hot outside, I dunno what I'd do if I couldn't go swimming... probably find a fire hydrant and see if I could get it open,"
"And how would you do that?" She asked with a sparkle in her green eyes. She wanted to know what his child-like mind could probably think of on how to get the fire hydrant open.
"It's so hot out, why aren't you swimming? The water is great! It's not cold like ice, or boiling either, it's perfect tempe... temere... it's nice!"
"Temperature." She said, with a laugh. "And well..this is the only pair of clothes I have left." Bella couldn't stand staying in wet clothes, it was just one of the weirdest feelings in the world. Maybe the heat would get to her, and cause her to jump in, forgetting her discomfort.

"And how would you do that?"
Jem haddn't acctually thought the whole plan through. It sounded like a good idea and all, but he wasn't quite sure how he would pull it off. he floated in the water for a few moments, just floating and thinking about it. Finally he said, "...I dunno... but I'd probably get some guy with like... a really big stick to help me, and just hit it until it came open. I mean, that'd work eventually, right?" he said with a smile. "Maybe there's like an open crank thingy, like on the sinks and stuff? Or maybe you can stick a pump in it! I dunno, I've never really looked at a fire hydrant that close... maybe I should do that."
His mind wandered again until she told him how to correctly say "Temperature" to which his prompt and enthusiastic responce was, "Yeah that!" He kicked back in the water once more as he listened to her explanation. "Oooh, I get it, you're kinda like me huh?" he said with a smile.
"Well, here is how I look at it." He swam back over to her. "I got in the river in my clothes. Now I'll be cool all day! And when I go home, what isn't dry I'll hang up on the edge of my bed so they can dry and I'll wear 'em tomorrow. It's kinda smart," he said proud of himself for comming up with it all on his own.
After that he stared at Bella for a minute. "You're pretty," he commented as though he were pointing out that there were rocks on the ground; to him it was plain as day and was a fact that needed to be stated. "What's your name?"

<< New Day >>
Dice hadn't really eaten sense the day before and she was really hungry, usually Dice would of had at least two apples since yesterday....but it seemed that all of the Street Vendor's wouldn't even turn there back's probably because they knew that Dice was a pick-pocket and she was gonna take one of there apples. Dice smirked thinking that they knew who she was.
Dice sat down on the docks with her hat in her hand fanning herself and her feet dangling off the side. Dice took her dice out of her pockets and looked at them...it had been a while since she had a good poker game with someone...but she wasn't really in the mood for a good poker game she was in he mood for Sheepstead Bay since she had just gotten a dollar from a very rich lady. Dice took the dollar bill out of the wallet that she had stolen when she was in Brooklyn. Dice looked at the dollar and ran her fingers around the edge of it.

*NEW*
Reid walked along the docks, enjoying being this close to the water. He was lost in his thoughts thinking about the money problems he was facing with his sister. They would never worry Perry with these problems. They both wanted him to have the kind of childhood they'd always wanted. Worry free and happy constantly and Perry exhibited signs of a good childhood. He was happy with them and he was happy with the move. Reid on the other hand didn't mind New York but he'd love to go back to Jersey City, he missed his friends. He just could never leave his siblings and he knew that Lexi would never go back there, especially with the people looking for her who were.

New day.
It was evening and the sun was going down in the big red New York Sky. Smiley stood on the docks, just sorting out her thoughts. She wasn't usually so calm and quiet but when she had time to herself and she had time to sort out her thoughts she was very laid back. It had been a horrible day. She had decided that she would go back to Harlem after selling newspapers and visit her old friends back in Harlem. After all she used to be a newsie there before she came to Manhattan. All the Manhattan newsies didn't like it when she went there. They figured she was a Manhattan newsie, she shouldn't keep going in a different territory. They said she had to choose where her loyalties lied. She had went to Harlem none the less. Dagger her friend was overjoyed to see her. After just hanging out with him for a while, he posed a question. He said he missed her and told her he wished she had never left to go to Manhattan. He asked her to stay. When she said she couldn't, he got very angry. He blew up and her and him had a horrible fight, he said either she stayed in Harlem or he never wanted to see her again. Dagger was her best friend, she had been horribly hurt by the cruel words she had said. Just thinking about it brought tears to her eyes. She sniffled staring out at the sunset and at the dark water.

Magnet decided to take a little walk around the Bronx and saw a girl standing at the Docks. He heard her sniffle, and felt bad, even though he didn't know what ws wrong, nor did he even know her.
He walked up to her and said, "Excuse me, Miss, but, are ya alright?" Magnet saw that her eyes were filled with tears.
